What is Jesus saying?

At the individual level, we areto grieve our personal sin.

This mourning is experiencedby the man who begins torealize the blackness of hissin.

This is especially when he isexposed to the purity of God,our true mirror of our lives.

Two things happen, the longer aperson knows Jesus

Firstly, he is bound tosee more clearly the

high standard of Godsperfection by which hemust judge his life.

He therefore nolonger feels righteousbut realizes just howfar short he is fromthe standard of God

realizes the cost of sin.

He sees the terriblenessof his deeds and the utter

Mourning can also bestimulated by the sin of thisworld, the lack of integrity,the sense of injustice done,the cruelty of tyrants.

Such sadness and sufferingare bound to pile onto theconsciousness of a sensitiveman and they make himweep.

Jeremiah - the crying prophet

Jeremiah was known asthe crying or weeping

prophet because he weptover the sins of others(Israel).

The whole book ofLamentations is a recordof his crying over the evildeeds of Israel.

Jesus too provided usan example of thissort of mourning whenHe mourned over the

Discovers whether ourfaith is superficial or theessential foundation ofour life.

Greatest of discoveries --

God. In our blackest hour,the light of God becomesbrighter.

Those who mourn will be comforted

Parakalein- The Greek wordfor comfort.

It means more than justalleviating someones pain forthis word is also the same

word used to invite someone toa banquet. In other words, God not only

forgives the sinner but inviteshim to his banquet as an

honored guest e.g. Prodigal son- fatted calf.

In other words from sorrowcomes rejoicing.

The comfort of God

Mourners are comforted in the knowledge that there isGod who loves him and would not let him go despite hisunfaithfulness.

Mourners are comforted that it was for their sins, that

Revelation 21:4

God himself will wipe away

all tears from the eyes ofthose who mourn as Hemakes all things new whenJesus returns to this world.
