Issue 14 | May 11, 2020 Beat COVID-19 Today A COVID-19 Philippine Situationer Highlights and Recent Updates on COVID-19 DOH recorded 8,151 active cases as of May 10, with the majority of the patients exhibiting mild symptoms (7251, 89%). Twenty-six (26) laboratories across the country are now licensed to perform the RT-PCR tests while three (3) and thirty (30) are on Stage 4 and Stage 3, respectively. As reported by DFA, there are a total of 2,178 confirmed cases of Overseas Filipinos with the highest count being in Europe at 647 cases. A total of 1,991 (19% of all cases) healthcare workers are affected by COVID-19, with 584 recoveries and 34 deaths. DOH encourages the public to embrace the New Normal setting in their everyday lives. With this, minimum health standards in food and dining settings are essential to keep everyone healthy and safe. To prevent possible spread of disease, the public should maintain hand hygiene and physical distancing. Masks should be worn at all times, even when talking/ordering. Vaccination remains vital to protect everyone against vaccine-preventable diseases especially children ages 0-12 months and those under 5 years old who did not receive their vaccine for selective catch-up. To mitigate the COVID-19 outbreak impact on immunization services and minimize the risk of transmission during vaccination sessions, DOH issued Memorandum No. 2020-0150 or Interim Guidelines for Immunization Services in the Context of COVID-19 Outbreak.     A total of 6993 (65%) are confirmed cases from NCR. The proportion of cases in NCR decreased from 71% since January to April 19, 2020 (start of case detection) to 56% for the period of April 20 to May 10, 2020.

    Meanwhile, cases in Region 7 increased in proportion from 2% to 30% for the similar period. On April 20, 2020, 124 (50%) out of the 249 confirmed cases nationwide, were reported from BJMP facility in Cebu City. Region 7 recorded a total of 1,421 (13%) confirmed cases, the second highest reported in the country.

    Region 4-A has the third highest cases with a total of 1,259 (12%) confirmed cases of yesterday. Since start of case detection, the proportion of cases in Region 4A decreased from 16% to 6% for the period of April 20 to May 10.

    HOW DO YOU MAKE 0.05% DISINFECTANT SOLUTION FOR CLEANING HOUSEHOLD ITEMS?

    1. Gather all materials needed: disinfectant container, bleach/chlorine, water, personal protective equipment

    2. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, googles, apron and boots) when handling and preparing bleach solutions.

    3. When preparing the solution, pour the amount of water required into a plastic container then add the bleach (and not the other way around):

    4. If you are using household bleach (5% active chlorine), mix:

    a) 1 ml bleach + 9 ml water, orb) 100 ml bleach + 900 ml waterc) For chlorine

    powder/granules/tablet (60-70%) active chlorine, dissolve: 1 tbsp of chlorine + 20L of water

    5. Do not forget to label your disinfectant containers and specify chlorine concentration.

    FDA UPDATES LIST OF NOTIFIED HAND SANITIZERSIn the interest of the public health and safety, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hereby provides a list of notified hand sanitizers under the Center for Cosmetics Regulation and Research, and a list of registered topical antiseptics and antibacterials under the Center for Drug Regulation and Research. The public is hereby enjoined to be vigilant in the purchase and use of these types of products in light of proliferation of unregistered/unnotified products that are offered for sale in the market especially during this time when a state of calamity has been declared due to COVID-19 threat in the country.     As stipulated in PhilHealth Circulars 2020-0009, 0011 and 0012, all Health Care Providers (HCPs) are required to submit the itemized billing statements of patients managed as COVID – 19.1 These itemized billing statements should reflect all emergency room and hospital charges, including professional and readers’ fees that shall be submitted to PhilHealth on a weekly basis, every Friday at 2:00 PM.
