In her weekly news and notes announce- ments, Mary Grant congratulated SGA president-elect Jessica Krason and Student Trustee-elect Jameek Clovie specifically along with all other winners. “It is important to know that I have a hand in what happens,” said Senior Jamal Ahamad on why he voted. Ahamad said he votes because he knows that his vote counts. Students on campus voted for a num- ber of different reasons, but the American democratic ideal cropped up in a lot of comments. Freshman Alyson Carey said that she voted partially because she was running for treasurer of her class, but also because she wanted to have input in the school’s elec- toral process. Freshman Ashley Schuster had similar reasoning. “I’m voting because my friends are run- ning, but also because I like being involved,” she said. Sex offender charged after campus break-in Rib joint proposed to open in former Los Amigos space North Adams man held following a chase and arrest for multiple charges By Ed Damon Staff Writer A 38-year-old North Adams man who was arrested for allegedly breaking into the Cam- pus Center women’s locker room and going through bags will appear April 30 in Northern Berkshire Court. Richard W. Beliveau of 89 Bracewell Avenue was arrested by North Adams Police on Wednes- day, April 7, and charged with dis- orderly conduct. Campus Police charged Beliveau with breaking and entering in the daytime, along with assault and battery on a student. Beliveau, a level three sex offender, was convicted in July 1996 for the indecent assult and battery on a child under 14 years of age and the rape and abuse of child, according to the Family Watchdog Web site (familywatch- dog.us.) Public Safety received a call about a man going through bags in the women’s locker room on the ground floor of the Amsler Campus Center at about 4:45 p.m. Members of the women’s softball team informed Campus Police that when they interrupted him, he fled on foot. Campus Police notified the North Adams Police Department that the suspect had took off headed up Ashland Street. Four units from the NAPD were dis- patched to Ashland Street. Web photo/Family Watchdog By Andrew Roiter Senior News Editor After just a few months local restaurant, Los Amigos’ Burritos, shut down leaving nothing but a blue building and a sign reading,“No Taco Tuesday.” But North Adams resident and potential restau- rateur Cynthia Cottrell hopes to change that by opening Adam’s Ribs and More in that location. 315 Ashland St. was built in 1900 as a residence, but it has been a popular spot for local businesses for years, with mixed success. The building, owned by Ransford Properties for the last eight years, has been home to, a bagel shop, a hot dog place, Pizza King, and then Los Amigos’ Burritos. Rasford Properties owner, Charles Ransford remarked that the hot dog restaurant had been successful, but was not lucrative enough for the owner to stay open. “It was uphill battle, [against Jack’s Hot Dog Stand,]” he added. As for Pizza King and Los Amigos, Ransford said that the owners fell behind on rent and couldn’t pay for suppliers either. He mentioned that it was a shame because both establishments had good food.
