Applying SAPGUI Patch

In this document we will see how to apply frontend (SAP GUI) patches.

You can download the patch from http://service.sap.net

When you download the file you will get a Zipped exe file. The naming convention of

the file is gui<version>_<patch level number>.exe For example

gui46D_426.exe.

This file contains 3 files. One with extension gui<version>_<patch level

number>.sfp, second with extension gui<version>_<patch level number>.info

and a readme.txt file

You can copy these files in a directory. This directory should also contain the

following files :

nimgrext.dll, sappatch.dll, sapregsv.exe, sapsetup.exe, spytree.dll,

xnisetup.dll

Some of these files are hidden files. That’s why it is important to have your Windows

Explorer setting to Show ALL Files





Next if you want you can create a .BAT file (say Patch_it_46D.bat) with the

following script

What this script does is to copy all files to \Program Files\SAPPC\NETINST directory

and then execute the SAPSETUP.EXE file.

After the installation is over the files are deleted from the directory.





We will update the patch level from 332 to 426

To check you current patch level, start SAP GUI

Click on the on the top left corner of the window

You will Get the following Drop down Menu

Click on About SAPgui





You can see from the above screen, we are on patch level 332.

Before you install the SAPGUI patch, please be sure to close all your SAP

sessions as well as your SAP Logon Pad.

To install the patch execute the batch file.

All the files will be copied to C:\Program Files\SAPPC\NETINST directory

After the files are copied, SAPSET.EXE is executed





Click on the icon to select the .sfp file





From the pop up window, select the .sfp file

and then click on Open





The process of patch extraction begins.





After the patch is extracted, you are ready to apply the patch

Select the topmost node (in this case gui46D_426) and click on Install





This process will take a few minutes.





After the installation is complete, you will get a window like the screenshot below

Click on OK

Goto the DOS window and hit the enter key once to close that window.





After installing the patch, to verify successful installation, start the SAP Logon pad

and follow the same step described above for checking the current patch

As you can see from the above picture, the SAP GUI patch level is 426.
