    ELOQUENCE

    yBasic factors of good speech-deliveryy Your listener must be able to hear easily what you are

    saying

    y Your listener must be able to understand readily whatyou are saying; and,

    y Your listeners interest must be awakened and must befully maintained throughout your speech, giving him afeeling of pleasure and satisfaction

    reach everyone in the audience

    y Maintain proper atmosphere or mood

    Speaker

    y Your speech begins with your entrance.

    y Rising positiony If in a ready-to-rise position, shift your weight to

    your front foot before rising, then gently push yourbody up from the ankles.

    y Position in generaly You must not only appear at ease but actually be at

    ease

    y Sitting positiony When rising to deliver a platform speech, you

    should rise to full stature with calmness andassurance

    Your chest highy Your spine perpendicular to the floory Your shoulder blades on the same line with anothery Your hips drawn back, and your full weight on the balls of your feety Your knees should be straight but without stiffnessy Your feet should not be too close nor too far apart

    y Walking positiony There must be balance, poise, and equilibrium

    y Coming face to face with the audiencey Waiting for the audience to keep quiet

    Overcoming Stage fright

    y Breathe slowly and deeply before and asyou go to the platform.

    y Allow your audience to settle after you takeyour position to speak.

    y Find a reason to pause or to move toanother position when your knees begin toshake or your voice begins to quiver

    y Always watch you audience during youropening lines. If you look away from them,

    your speech fright will be increased and itwill be difficult for you to turn back tothem
