School News

Message from the Principal

High Expectations

As principal of Baradine Central School, I have high

expectations for every student in all aspects of their

learning. This extends beyond the classroom to how they

build their character and wellbeing through socially

acceptable behaviours. It is normal human behaviour for

teenagers to make mistakes but the trick is to turn each

negative experience into a positive. When a young person

accepts responsibility for their actions and consequences,

learning occurs and they become a better person.

School Plan 2018-2020

The school is on a path of continuous improvement guided

by three strategic directions. The first one is a focus on

literacy and numeracy, recognising that both are key

elements of all subject areas. We want our students to be

confident readers who read for learning and for pleasure.

The second one is about building the capacity of our

teachers to provide the necessary skills to a diverse range

of learners for them to become competent adults in a

vastly changing world where technology is crucial. We will

be introducing exciting and innovative learning strategies

to engage students with new technologies as they emerge.

The third strategy will focus on student wellbeing to

ensure, in this age of social media and bullying, that

students are supported to be resilient and confident and

participate fully in their schooling and extra-curricula

opportunities.

What’s been happening in the last two weeks?

P&C Meeting

The first meeting for the year was on Feb 27 with a good

roll up of parents. A report has been attached for your

information. Please note that the AGM is March 27.

Bush Fire meeting

Many thanks to Mick Robinson, Castlereagh Fire Control

and local fire captain Phil Hensby, for their support in

assisting with the development of a very thorough

Bushfire Plan for the school.

Coonabarabran Show

Congratulations to the sheep team for winning a stack of

ribbons on their first outing with the new Australian White

sheep loaned by B&B Stud.

Special mention of Madison Masman who was awarded

reserve champion handler.

Congratulations also to Claudia McConnaughty who was

competing privately in the horse section and came away

with all the major awards.

Director Visit

BCS hosted a principals’ network meeting last Monday. In

attendance was Sean Andrews, Director of Schools

Western Plains, Juanita Meier, principal Coonabarabran PS,

Mary Doolan, principal Coonabarabran HS, Wes Leedham,

principal Warrumbungle Environmental Education Centre,

Ken White, principal Binnaway Central, Katie Sullivan,

principal Gwabegar PS and myself.

Regional Swimming

Last week, our top swimmers participated in the North

West Regional trials at Armidale. All of these students did

an amazing job and can be proud of their efforts.

Special congratulations to Ted, Madi, Molly and Liam who

all qualified for the State Championships at Homebush in

four weeks.

Induction Assembly

Democratic processes are part of the culture at BCS and

last week, the students who were voted in by their peers,

were inducted for both Sporting House Captains and

Student Representative Councils.

Congratulations to all!

Rugby Skills

Primary students had an opportunity to sharpen their

rugby skills with a series of training sessions conducted by

Mark Pitts and Luke Mack.

They are now looking forward to contesting the Terry

McGoldrick Rugby Union Cup.

Visit by Tim Brasher

Students were treated to an unexpected visit by NRL

legend Tim Brasher who is a friend of Mr Robinson. Tim

signed his autograph for many and chatted with our up and

coming league recruits.

Baradine Show

The Baradine Show was a great success and the school’s

contributions were significant. Thank you to Carol, Bron

and Richie for assembling the display of students’ and

teachers’ work.
