Now we need a council that genuinely

represents its residentsn Runs services for and on behalf of its residentsn Is open and transparent in all its dealingsn Spends our money well and carefullyn Encourages residents’ participation in council affairs n Engages positively with its employees and their unions

Make your vote count on 22 May

This Conservative council hasn spent up to £85 million privatising our public services: their lack of transparency means we can’t know the exact amountn gambled with our taxes in the failed Icelandic banksn voted a 54% pay rise for their committee chairpersonsn renewed contracts with a care home guilty of causing the death of a resident and a company convicted of fraudn restricted public participation in council affairsn privatised public services, resulting in higher costs and lower quality

We pay council tax for public services and to pay councillors’ allowances. They should be working for us, not against us.

The Conservatives have failed us in every way: increased council tax by 36% between 2002 and 2006, ruined high street

commerce, devastated the poor and disabled, neglected our streets and roads, and underinvested in schools, housing and

public health. Now they expect you to forget all this for a council tax

reduction of 23p a week – funded by taxing the poorest people in the borough!

22 May is your chance to VOTE THEM OUT!Simple as ABC: Anyone But Conservative

We need public services to providen Good-quality care for disabled children and adultsn Good-quality council homes n Equal access to schools and quality educationn Well-equipped public librariesn Thriving high streets and local jobsn Clean air and a healthy environmentn Well-maintained roads and pavementsn Well-maintained parks and open spaces available freen Help when we need it: when we’re ill, when someone dies, when there is a problem with servicesn Fair employment contracts and the London Living Wage for employees of all contractors delivering services in Barnet

This is some of what the Conservative council has donen Failed to ensure adequate care for elderly and disabled people n Cut £45,000 from the budget of a school for disabled students and outsourced services for disabled adults to be run for profitn Approved expensive private housing on council estates and reduced the number and size of homes for council tenantsn Promoted free schools and academies, which restrict access, do not need to follow the national curriculum and are not accountable to the council – and closed 8 children’s centresn Closed libraries and museums, some of which were then saved by local peoplen Raised parking fees along CPZ and high streets and removed cash meters without consultation, reducing trade in the high streets by up to 40%n Nothing about our air quality! We have some of the worst air pollution in London.n Received the highest level of pothole complaints in London n Sold spaces used for leisure activities to private developersn Allowed A&Es to close and hiked charges for burials and cremationsn Replaced local council support with call centres in other parts of the UK, staffed by people with no local knowledge n Made hundreds of council workers redundant, and cut the pay of care-workers by up to 26%n Employed private consultants on thousands of pounds a day, but used agency workers on zero-hours contracts
