Annual School Contribution Fee Bankstown North Public School’s Annual Contribution fee is used to purchase necessary teaching and learning resources for your child’s classroom. The contribution fee is $42 for a single child or $79 for a family of 2 or more. I understand that families face additional expenses at the beginning of the school year; however, I consider the amounts to be both fair and reasonable. If any parent or caregiver is experiencing difficulty in making the payment, please make an appointment to see me through our school office.

Page 3: Bankstown North Public School€¦ · and leave our school as confident, well-educated individuals who will have received the very best that public education has to offer. If at any

Technology Fee The school is requesting that parents and caregivers pay a Technology Fee of $20 to assist us making annual subscription payments for programs such as Mathspace, Mathseeds and Literacy Planet. It also helps to cover the cost of general wear and tear of hardware used in the classroom. The fee is also used to assist the school in purchasing computer programs and licences which are used by all K-6 teachers to assist students with their learning. In addition to this fee, all students and parents must acknowledge ‘Bankstown North Public School Information and Communication Technologies Acceptable Use Policy’ and return a signed copy of the ‘ICT Code of Conduct’ to the office by Friday 22 February. Please look out for these important notes in your child’s school bag. Your prompt payment of the above fees is appreciated. Please see attached payment slips. Kindergarten Times and Arrangements We look forward to welcoming our new Kindergarten’s to their first day of school tomorrow. Please take note of the following to make your child’s transition into Kindergarten as smooth as possible.

MORNING DROP OFF Before the 9.00am morning please, please walk your child to the school toilets. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT PARENTS ASSIST US IN TRAINING THE NEW KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

TO USE THE TOILET SHORTLY BEFORE CLASS TIME BEGINS!

• New Kindy’s will line up under the COLA (Covered

Outdoor Learning Area) from Week 3 (Monday 11 February). They will practise this routine with their teacher on Thursday and Friday this week.

AFTERNOON PICK-UP • All children to be picked up from under the COLA at

2.30pm on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 February.

• Pickup under the COLA at 3.00pm from Week 3 (Monday 11 February onwards).

• We encourage all families to make arrangements for their Kindergarten child to be personally picked up by an adult.

• Please plan where you are going to park as parents will not be able to park on school grounds or in the cul-de-sac (Beresford Road).

• Many of our parents have found it practical to park across the road in Jacobs Street and cross the Hume Highway on foot to collect their child/children.

Bankstown North Public School Annual Swimming Carnival Our school swimming carnival for Years 1-6 will be held on Tuesday 5 March (Week 6) at Max Parker Leisure and Aquatic Centre (Marco Avenue, Revesby). Information and permission notes will be sent home next week. If you require a copy after it has been sent home, please look on our website under Notes to Parents. Please see Mr Formica if you require more details, or are able to assist staff on the day. P&C AGM Our next P&C Annual General Meeting (AGM) followed by a P&C meeting is on Friday 15 March 2019 at 9.30am in the Staffroom. It is important that as many parents and caregivers attend this meeting so that we have a good representation of our school community present. As it will be an AGM, we will be filling the following positions: P&C President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer

If you are interested in taking up one of these positions, I encourage you to come along and express an interest. Music Bus Music Bus lessons re-commenced last week for 2019. The Music Bus provides our students with the weekly opportunity to learn a musical instrument e.g. keyboard, drums, guitar, ukulele or, participate in singing lessons at very reasonable cost. I cordially invite all our parents and caregivers wishing to enrol their child to visit the following website: www.themusicbus.com.au or phone 1300 168 742. The Music Bus is a wonderful music program that many of our students are already enjoying – a brilliant and cost-effective way for students to get fun and specialist music lessons without parents having to travel all over the area after school. Cost of lessons is only $16 per week (Drums $18). If you’re interested in your child having music lessons through The Music Bus, check out their website at www.themusicbus.com.au or call 1300 168 742.

Our School Canteen Staff Our school canteen is managed by Ms Marissa Saad. Marissa and her team are very approachable and are very welcoming of any ideas or suggestions you may have.

I encourage all parents and caregivers to utilise the canteen facilities when possible remembering that lunch orders should be placed before the morning bell rings at 9.00am. Children who are in line to order their lunch at this

time will be served first, as they should be at morning lines so that they listen to important teacher messages. So that children are not late for morning lines parents and caregivers need to ensure that children arrive at school by 8.30am (not before as there is no teacher supervision). By doing so children have plenty of time to order their lunch and/or have a healthy breakfast (also available from the canteen) as well as play with their friends before the bell rings. Your cooperation with these matters is appreciated. Attached to this newsletter is the school canteen menu and Daily Specials. Canteen special – every time you order a “Daily Special’ from the canteen you will receive a free stamp. When you collect 3 stamps, you may redeem a free jelly cup any time at lunch. School Uniform We strongly encourage all students to wear our school uniform and demonstrate a belonging to our school and it is expected that ALL students will be correctly dressed in the new uniform in 2019. This also includes hats and correct shoes.

Yeronga Uniforms 900 Canterbury Road, Roselands

(between Flora and Remly Streets) Ph: 9759 1555

A reminder that Bankstown North Public School is a uniform school and that BLACK LEATHER SCHOOL SHOES are the correct school uniform footwear. This type of footwear not only protects the children’s feet but raises the standard of dress of our students. For this purpose, black leather shoes are required footwear for all our students under our current school uniform policy.

DON’T FORGET TO LABEL YOUR CHILDS BELONGINGS

You can:

• use a permanent laundry marker to label clothes, hats and shoes, or sew or iron on personalised labels

• go through your child’s bag with them each night

• check that labels haven’t faded with washing • if something doesn’t come home, check the lost

property bin located in the staffroom building No Hat No Play

All students need to bring their school uniform hat every day to wear at recess and lunch and during sport. Any child who does not have a school uniform hat MUST sit in the COLA area under the shade. Parents and carers please check that your child has a school uniform hat labelled with their name. If they do not,

please purchase one from the school office for $16.00. As part of our School Uniform Policy, children are not permitted to wear a non-school uniform hat! Any child who wears a non-school uniform hat will be asked to remove it until a school uniform hat is purchased. P&C Breakfast Club Mrs Nurisen Hashmi (P&C President) and members of the P&C are continuing the morning Breakfast Club starting at 8.30am five days of the week. Weetbix, cornflakes, cheese toasties, a selection of fruit, cheese and crackers as well as healthy milk are being served free of charge. We are very thankful to our dedicated volunteers for running this very important community service. Please contact Nurisen on 0403 595 925 for further information. Any donations of above items would be greatly appreciated.

School Opal Card A School Opal card is available for public transport travel between home and school. Students who were issued a School Opal card last year should have automatically received a new School Opal card for 2019. Students who require a School Opal card this year will need to make an application online at.

transportnsw.info/school-students

Once the application is completed, please print, sign and date the application, then submit it to the school office for endorsement. The school will then send the form to Transport for NSW. Once approved, the School Opal card will be sent to the address on the application. To be eligible, the following distance applies:

• Years K-2 (Infants) There’s no minimum distance

• Years 3-6 (Primary) 1.6km straight line distance or 2.3km walking

Parents/Caregivers Visiting The School ALL parents and caregivers are requested when visiting the school during school hours, to sign the visitor’s book located in the school office and wear a visitor’s badge. Parents and caregivers will be directed by school staff to do so if they are in the school grounds without having complied with our regulation. The primary purpose of this exercise is Safety! Firstly, we are aware of who is in our school for the safety and wellbeing of all our students, and secondly, it will enable us to determine who is in the school should we need to implement our evacuation or lockdown procedures. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter. Dropping Students Off Before 8.30am A number of our parents and caregivers are dropping their children at school BEFORE 8.30am. This is a safety concern for your child as there is NO TEACHER SUPERVISION BEFORE 8.30am. Parents and caregivers are therefore required to use our Before and After School Care facility for this purpose. If you require information regarding this service, please see our school office staff. In the interest of student safety, I will be contacting parents and caregivers who continue to abuse this important safety request. Electronic Gates Electronic gates to our main school driveway gates enhance the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and school community. No visitors are able to enter the school grounds without permission. Only personnel

permitted to enter the school grounds will be provided with a code to enter the school grounds. For safety reasons, parents and caregivers are not permitted to drive onto the school grounds Are Your Details Up To Date? Please ensure you advise the school office if there is any change in your contact details (ie: address, mobile or home phone, email, emergency contacts). Often we are unable to contact parents due to not having the most up-to-date contact information. Smoking Parents please be advised that smoking is not permitted in the vicinity of the school gates. If you want to smoke you will need to cross the road Lost Property Our school lost property box has a number of unclaimed school uniform items. This includes jumpers, jackets and hats and miscellaneous items. If your child has lost any school uniform clothing articles you are welcome to search our lost property box located by the entrance to the school administration block (at the COLA end). Please label all clothing and property eg: lunchboxes and drink containers with your child’s name and class so that they do not get misplaced. Unclaimed clothing will be given to our school office for use as spare clothing at the end of the school term. Health Care Plans We welcome information from parents about your child’s health, even if you are not requesting specific support from our school. Our school asks for medical information when you enrol your child. It is also important that you let us know if your child’s health care needs change or if a new health condition develops. This is particularly relevant if your child suffers from asthma. Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes and other health care related issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by parents. Please provide this information in writing to the principal. This will greatly assist our school in planning support for your child’s health and wellbeing. Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact details of other people mentioned as emergency contacts. We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide the school will be stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your son or daughter’s health needs or as otherwise required by law.

School Development Day Changes Please be aware that the Term 4 School Development Days (SDDs) 2019 that are scheduled for Thursday 19

and Friday 20 December have been changed. Therefore, I am confirming the following days/times as our 2019 Sessions:

Term 1 Term 3 Saturday 23 February Saturday 31 August

This change will cause no disruption to student learning as the last day for ALL students in Term 4 is Wednesday 18 December. Medication If your child needs to take medication, please bring it to the office and fill out the necessary authorisation for its administration. Under no circumstances are children permitted to have any form of medication in the classroom or in their schoolbags. Make School Aware Any changes to your child's family situation can impact on their emotional and academic well-being. Inform your child's teacher and principal about any changed circumstances so that the child can be supported if necessary. Examples of special circumstances include the birth of a sibling, divorce or the death of a loved one. If Your Child Is Absent From School If your child has to be absent from school for any reason, please tell your child's teacher or send a signed note explaining the reason for the absence within seven days. Late Arrivals Children who arrive at school after the morning assembly must go to the office and collect a late note. If this is not done, then they will be marked absent for the whole day as the front office staff amend the class roll not the teacher. Please do not accompany your child to their classroom if they arrive late as this tends to unsettle the classes and interrupt valuable learning time. Children should proceed to class themselves (children requiring assistance to their classrooms will be assisted by our office staff). Any messages may be left with our office staff, who will pass them on to the teachers at the next break time. Mobile Phones If you deem it necessary for your child to bring to school a mobile phone, they must hand it in at the office before school and collect it when school is dismissed.

Whole School Assembly Our fortnightly formal whole school assemblies will be held on a Thursday afternoon (even weeks) from 2.00-3.00pm in our school hall. The assembly will coincide with Newsletter week - therefore students who will be receiving Principal Awards or other significant awards at the assembly, will have their names published in the School Newsletter enabling you advanced notice and the opportunity to attend the assembly.

Our first assembly for 2019 will be held on Thursday 7 February from 2.00-3.00pm and will

include Years 1-6 only. Kindergarten children will join us at the next assembly.

Your attendance at our assemblies is always welcome! Thank you for your continued support. Jon Godwin Principal

BANKSTOWN NORTH PUBLIC SCHOOL

RULES

1. Be Responsible

2. Be Considerate

3. Be Honest Please go over these with your children

Page 7: Bankstown North Public School€¦ · and leave our school as confident, well-educated individuals who will have received the very best that public education has to offer. If at any

Kiss and Drop Reminders Important information for parents and carers who use Kiss and Drop:

1. If you have not already done so, you need to come to the school office and register. The office staff will process your registration and your child will be given a laminated piece of paper with a number and the names of the children you have nominated to pick up each afternoon. After receiving your number, you MUST DISPLAY this on your front passenger side sun visor with two elastic bands (please see example). If you have two cars then please ask the office staff for an additional copy.

2. The passenger side sun visor must be down when entering the Kiss and Drop zone each afternoon so that it is clearly visible for the teacher on duty to see.

3. For student safety reasons, CARS WITHOUT A REGISTRATION NUMBER WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO USE THE KISS AND DROP.

4. Once your car is in a safe position in our Kiss and Drop zone, the teacher on duty will call out your number (eg: 26). Only then will your child be permitted to leave the school grounds to enter your car.

5. Your child (children) must know their registration number and be listening for the teacher to call their number over the microphone.

6. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you to call your child to come to the car. This is a safety issue. If you choose to disobey this rule you will not be permitted to use the Kiss and Drop zone.

7. READ THE COUNCIL ROAD SIGNAGE! Many parents and caregivers have received an infringement notice because they have not obeyed the road rules. You are not permitted to park in the Kiss and Drop zone for more than TWO MINUTES. New signage has been installed on the fence at our Kiss and Drop zone as well as on the Hume Highway and Davis Lane gates to remind you of the rules.

8. If you need to get out of your car, please be advised that the rules state you are to remain within a 1 metre radius of your car. Please ensure you follow these rules as police will be making regular checks, particularly during the afternoon peak Kiss and Drop period.

9. To avoid an infringement notice, you are advised to arrive in the Kiss and Drop zone at around 3.10-3.15pm. Children will be assembled by this time and ready to be dismissed from school, eliminating the issue of you having to wait more than the permitted two-minute period as well as cars backing up and blocking the Hume Highway.

10. Your cooperation with this process is expected.

For safety reasons, parents and caregivers are not permitted to drive onto the school grounds.
