Holiday Fun Want to do something more exciting than watching TV or playing on the internet these holidays? Why not try:

• Getting involved in a local or backyard sport withfriends

• Drawing and painting• Playing board games• Start learning a musical instrument• Help in the garden – maybe your child could

have part of the garden as their own• Help to organise a family get together

Take charge of your holidays in advance by making lists of things to do and setting aside some time each day for them – nothing creates stress like last minute shopping and preparation. When entertaining children, one activity each day will keep them excited.

Encouraging Literacy Skills at Home Let your child help you write shopping lists. This is a great way to get them reading words that don't always come from a storybook. Children can help you read recipes and then write out lists of items you need and link names to products that you point out in the refrigerator or the pantry cupboard. More ideas at:

Reading with children is fun and one of the best ways to help prepare them for school.

Tip: Try not to let television intrude on reading time - set aside some uninterrupted time to read with your child.

Assembly Our next whole school formal assembly will be held on Thursday 4 July in our school hall at 2.00 – 3.00pm. This will be the last assembly for the term. Your attendance at our assemblies is always welcome!

Thank you for your continued support and I wish you all a safe and happy holiday and we look forward to working with you all again in Term 3.

WHAT IS A

READ IN? A number of major long term studies show that reading for leisure in students is the

most important factor of both academic progress and social skills over time. To assist our students in developing this love of reading the Library is running a

‘Read-In’ for Stages 2 & 3 this Thursday. The decision to run this event during class time was made to emphasise to students

that reading for fun is as important to their education as any of the other skills learned in class.

Students are required to bring a chapter book and are welcome but not required to bring a comfortable cushion and a small snack. You can assist us in this effort by

talking to them about the book they plan to bring or even helping them to select one.

THE MONTH OF MATHS

The Month of Maths is coming soon!

All through August, we want to know about the maths you see and use in your life outside school.

Bring in your ideas to share with your class. Your class will choose their favourites to be put on display, and at the end of the month,

our special guest judge will choose the best from each stage.

More information will come home next term.

You can start getting your ideas ready these school holidays. If you are stuck, think about the maths you use when: cooking measuring something that you are making reading the time, or working out how long something

takes looking for patterns using money solving a problem

Holiday Fun Looking for something fun but educational for your child to do over the holidays? Well, Word Mania could be your answer. It is a fantastic resource for students to improve a variety of key literacy skills like word families, phonics, rhyming and root words, prefixes, suffixes and word recognition. BNPS has been registered to compete in Word Mania, and students can access it by using their Literacy Planet password to log in on computers or laptops, or downloading the Literacy Planet Word Mania app on iPads or Mobile phones.

How does Word Mania work? Word Mania is the ultimate word building competition. Students are given three minutes to build as many words as possible from the board of 15 letter tiles. By dragging and rearranging letter tiles into the word panel players build, extend and rebuild words in a race against the clock.

Plenty of fun features Word Mania has a range of features designed to raise the stakes with Gold Tiles, Diamond Tiles and Word Multipliers for higher scores. Students can also test their word building abilities against their friends with the Word Buddy Challenge, earn badges for specific achievements and high scores and create a Mini-Beast avatar.

For more information see Mrs. Morgan or use this link: https://www.literacyplanet.com/au/news/word-mania-is-back/

On Tuesday 25 June, Joe Chambers and Andrew Crawford (First Officer Ditty and Professor Poet, as seen on ‘The Rhyme Rocket’ on CBeebies), joined us for an

exciting interactive literacy morning. Children from across the school were treated to their Ridiculous Rhyme Show, a live performance of rhyme, poetry, song and

silliness with the aim of improving and promoting rhyme awareness within literacy.

Following the performance, children in Stage 3 participated in their TV Workshop which was an opportunity for the children to gain an understanding of what Joe

and Andy do as a job and how they got into working in television.

Seesaw Family & Parent Sentral Apps What an amazing turnout we had for our first workshop on our new parent apps. Thank

you to those families who have a vested interest in your child/ren’s school life and attended to hear first hand about how these great apps will open up a window into your

chid’s classroom. Congratulations to the four winners of the $50 vouchers.

Positive Behaviour For Learning (PBL)

At Bankstown North Public School, we choose to be safe learners

As of the beginning of this term, Bankstown North Public School has undertaken the Positive Behaviour for Learning program as the major focus of the school’s Wellbeing component.

As part of the program the children are rewarded for Making Good Choices, Being Safe and Being Learners by receiving a ‘Crikey’ – a yellow slip of paper that the child receives from teachers when they are seen to be following our school expectations.

The children then place these into a barrel and enter the weekly ‘Crikey Raffle’. The more ‘Crikeys’ a child receives in a week; the greater chance they have of winning the raffle.

The ‘Crikey’ Raffle takes place at the Friday morning assembly with winners winning a $2 canteen voucher and a letter home from Mr Godwin.

Our winners are:

Week 8 • Azmi J 1/2Green • Amara E 3/4Yellow • Ceriin H 2Red • Yassin A 5/6Yellow

Week 9

Class Chatter Term 2 Review

It has been a busy term! We have had our cross country carnival, composting, counted thousands of Crikeys and created papier mâché creatures We combined classes for incursions and excursions, and learnt a LOT about aboriginal education,

including the Dharawal national anthem.
