These awards will be presented to the children at Friday morning assembly this week. Annual School Presentation Day 2015 Our Annual School Presentation Day will take place this Thursday 10 December 2015 commencing at 9.30am sharp in our school hall. This year is the first time the school will be conducting a whole school ceremony with all grades K-6. Invitations were home last week to those parents and caregivers of children who will be receiving an award. Due to limited seating, ONE (1) RESERVED SEAT will be allocated to the families of awardees who returned their RSVP by FRIDAY 4th DECEMBER - 3.30pm. Late responses will only be allocated a seat if space is available. Reserved seats will be clearly marked ‘RESERVED’ (WITH YOUR FAMILY NAME). We ask parents to carefully consider whether they bring toddlers or not as a two hour ceremony might be tiring for such a young child. Presentation Day Committee members will be present on the day to show you to your allocated seat. Parents and caregivers of students not receiving an award are welcome to sit in the non-reserved seating area, space permitting. Due to the limited space of our school hall, I ask all parents and caregivers to comply with the schools request with regards to seating arrangements. In the case of large numbers of parents and caregivers in attendance on the day, some people may be required to stand. Apologies in advance if this occurs, however this is the first year we are trialling this as a whole school event. A reminder, that on the day, the team from Yeronga School Uniforms will be on site to sell our new school uniform. Whilst is it compulsory that all Kindergarten students commencing school in 2016 wear the new uniform, parents of students in Years 1 – 6 will also have the option to purchase a uniform for their son and/or daughter as the full range of items in ALL sizes will be available along with EFTPOS facilities. I hope to see all parents and caregivers in attendance on this occasion. caps and/or hats as well as jackets that are not part of our school uniform. If your child is wearing a non-school uniform item on Presentation Day, they will be asked to remove the item. Your cooperation with this matter is appreciated, and is fully supported by our P&C Committee. Notes were sent home last week reminding our parents and caregivers of this requirement. School Term Dates A reminder that Term 4 finishes for ALL students on Wednesday 16 December 2015. School will resume in 2016:

• Years 1-6 - Thursday 28 January 2016 • Kindergarten - Wednesday 3 February 2016

New Canteen Lease The current lease of our school canteen expires at the end of this year. Therefore, the school recently advertised for tenders to lease our school canteen commencing January 2016 for a five (5) year period. A canteen committee was formed with Mrs Tracey Quick (Convenor), Jon Godwin (Principal) and members of our school P&C to select a new tender. I am pleased to advise that Marissa Saad was the successful applicant, and has subsequently accepted the tender. Marissa has successfully operated a canteen in another school setting for the past eight years providing healthy and nutritious homemade meals. All staff working in the canteen will be experienced and qualified in Food Safety and Hygiene Practices and all food will coincide with the guidelines set by the Healthy Canteen Policy. While Marissa has a proven and popular menu in place, she is also flexible and willing to customize a new menu to suit our student’s cultural and dietary requirements. Menus will be sent home with all student’s early Term 1 and will also be available on our school website. Marissa and her staff will commence operation when school resumes Wednesday 30 January, 2016. Living With Spirit Excursion Our annual Living With Spirit excursion that recognises those students who have demonstrated exemplary behaviour throughout the year will take place this Friday 11 December 2015. As a reward for their excellent behaviour, the children will be attending Bankstown Cinema accompanied by myself. A note has been sent home with those students invited to attend. Year 6 Farewell Dinner & Dance Our Year 6 Farewell Dinner and Dance will be held tonight Tuesday 8 December 2015 at the Mount Lewis Bowling Club commencing at 6:00pm and concluding at 9:30pm. The dinner is for Year 5 and 6 students and school staff only; however parents and caregivers are welcome to join us at 9.00pm to be part of the cake cutting and graduation presentation

Swimming Carnival Congratulations to all our students who participated in our schools swimming carnival last Tuesday 1 December 2015 at Revesby Pool. I would also like to acknowledge and especially thank all our parents and caregivers who attended, and also assisted staff on the day. The weather was terrific and the students all appeared to have fun! A list of children who will represent our school at the District Swimming Carnival in 2016 is further in the newsletter.

Swimming Is A Life Skill! A reminder to all our parents and caregivers whose child is unable to swim! Please enrol your child in Learn to Swim Classes over the school holiday period. Swimming is a life skill! It is therefore vital that they learn how to swim. The alarming number of children who drown each year as a result of not being able to swim could be drastically reduced if parents and caregivers taught their child how to swim. The following information will be of invaluable assistance. Swim and survive program - Lessons are for beginners through to confident swimmers keen to practise their technique (from infants to 12 years). See the map to find the pools where friendly swim teachers with AUSTSWIM accreditation teach across NSW. Find out more: http://www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/swimandsurvive/about.asp

Classes 2016 School executive are currently working on allocating students to classes for 2016. As the school is still taking K-6 enrolments, final numbers and class groupings along with class teachers will not be announced until school resumes Term 1 2016. Enrolments 2016 Bankstown North Public School is accepting enrolments for Kindergarten to Year 6 for 2016. Semester Two Reports Semester Two student reports will be sent home with all students this Friday 11 December 2015. A date and time will be announced in our first newsletter of the year. It is important that as many parents and caregivers attend this meeting so that we have a good representation of our school community present. If you are interested in taking up one of these positions, I encourage you to come and along and express your interest.

The Talent Quest will be held on Monday 14 December and we would absolutely love for parents

and caregivers to join us in our audience!

The school’s annual Talent Quest showcases student creativity in performances involving singing,

dancing, acting and musical instruments. There will be awards and prizes for contestants, audience

members and surprise staff performances.

We ask all students attending to bring a gold coin donation, which the SRC will be collecting, to donate

SWIMMING CARNIVAL FOR 2016

On Tuesday 1 December, our first ever whole school Annual Swimming Carnival was held at Revesby Leisure Centre. We couldn’t have asked for more sunshine, it was a beautiful day and as the following photos

suggest, all who attended the event appeared to have fun.

It was pleasing to see so many students participating in the many events including the novelty events. Well done to all those students for participating! The results of those who qualified for the District Swimming

Carnival which will be held in Term 1 2016 are on the following page.

Our infants classes had a ball in the wading pool!

Final Summer PSSA Report for 2015 AFL GRAND FINAL

On Friday 27 November, the junior AFL grand final between Bankstown North Public School and Greenacre Public School, was a day that I am certain our Junior AFL players will not soon forget.

Having beat the formidable Chester Hill Public School team at the Semi-Finals, our junior players were ready for their HUGE match against the even more impressive Greenacre Public School. The day, the weather, our boys, indeed the whole atmosphere on the day, did not fail to impress!

The first ten minutes of the match were were great to watch. The junior players did everything they had been practising in earlier training sessions-passing the ball cleanly across the field and converting the ball once in their possession through the goal posts. The next ten minutes brought forward even more brilliant moments, with our boys taking greater ownership of the ball and not allowing themselves to be dominated by the mighty opposition. At this point in the game, there was a real possibility of coming away with a win, as the score was in our favour 20-16, and the Greenacre team was struggling to pass their ball forward into their goal area.

Unfortunately, the last ten minutes proved to be the game changer, with Greenacre coming back strong and overwhelming our defence in the closing part of the game. Goals were scored in quick succession and our team just could not keep up. The final score on the day was 21-26-their way.

We were given excellent feedback and much praise by the Giants who refereed the game, as well as other coaches watching on the day. Many of our players have been singled out as having amazing potential and being ones to watch in future games.

A HUGE thank you to Chester Hill Public School for cheering us along, Beau-Dallas Oaariki from the Senior team for his assistance on the day, parents who came along to lend their support and encouragement AND our amazing bus driver who bought us some refreshing ice creams on the way back to school. I would like to finish up by extending my gratitude to ALL my players from both the junior and the senior AFL teams. You make me incredibly proud and I have loved every moment coaching you this year. THANKYOU! See you all next year! Mrs Papadakis Coach
