Having an internship at Ives/Ryan Group and Foliage Design Systemsallowed me to experience not one, but two types of landscape architecture rms. I was able to get the feel of a design rm in whichI learned how to interact with clients as well as furthered my skillsin Adobe CS6 software, Microsoft software, Sketchup. I also had thechance to be a part of a design/build rm and helped complete a backyard porch.

Varanasi was built on the top of the three spears of Shiva’s trident. This city is built on the West bank
because it is raised up from the water enough that when it floods the city
is not as affected as the East
bank.

After the industrial revolution came to anend the Cal-Sag River was left abandoned. These places along the river still haverun-off that affects the water quality here as well as all along the Mississippi. This design allows the people that live nearthe river to experience these places thathas been closed off since its beginning. With ways for people to interact withwater, the abandoned buildings, and the forest preserves there is bound to be something for everyone. Our design also hopes to clean the water through many different formsof biofiltration.

SUMMER AUTUMN WINTER SPRING

A A’
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts has had manyproblems with water run-off. Before the gutters were connected to the sewers the run-off would flood thesurrounding streets. This design works to hold the water on site by collecting it in raingardens until the garden is full after which the water drains into the sewerspreventing flooding of the streets while cleaning the water.

lumpkin foundation park - mattoon, il
The Lumpkin Foundation has donated a piece of land to the public in Mattoon, IL.They hope that this park will increase the number of people who visit the downtown Mattoonarea by making it a space where people can relax and would enjoy spending time with their friends and family. This park features a seating area for people waiting for thetrain, two raingardens, a stage for live bands, and plenty of space for other activites such asFamer’s Markets.

Chicago Public Schoolsown a large majority of land in the City of Chicago. The MWRDbelieves they wouldbe a great place to begin fighting the floodproblem Chicago has. For Schmid ElementarySchool they have a largespace behind the schoolthat is underutilized. This plan focuses oncapturing the rain waterfrom the surrounding community and helpprevent flooding. The main way of collectingwater is throughraingardens throughout the site as well as alongthe outer edges to trap the water on the schoolsproperty.

Tracks that connect a state. Long ago Illinois wasn’t so disjointed but
as the years progressed, our separation grew. With these new
railroad tracks we are reconnecting our beautiful state. People who travel
through the via train will get to experience the new way of travel and
while at our site they will be able to not only see how we will travel in the future
but also how people travelled in the past. The site is designed on the concept of time
travel and it can be seen throughout the park. From the futuristic buildings to the
cave like parking. This space is also utilized as a concert venue and amphitheater. There is
a beautiful dog park and even a place to host family reunions or other gatherings. This park
will not disappoint, there is a little of everything for everyone in your home. Our site is used for
more than just recreation, however. Trains from across Illinois will connect here allowing you to
relax or grab some food or drink and still make your train whatever your schedule may be.

Fairchild Condiminiums is a new construction that needed a grading plan that would drain the
water around the condos and into parking lot which would then go into the streets
and into the sewers. Our goals were to have two handicap parking
spots and to try and save as many trees as we
could.

design through adjectives
Open and closed space. These two designs are meant to give people the feeling of being in an open or a closed space based on what they can see. With the closed space they are only able to see a portion of the area in front of them but with the open space they can see as much as there is to see.
typology as topography
Typology as typography. Using the letter “S” I created
a landscape that incorporated a ramp and
bridge. I created a model to show my concept because it
better represents the accessibility of the space.
