Itinerary

Day 1 – Depart the US.

Day 2 – Arrive into Dublin Airport. Clear customs and meet your driver/guide in the arrivals hall. Stop for a light breakfast and to freshen up

before continuing our short journey into the city center for hotel check-in. Some of us may wish to rest for a few hours or take a gentle stroll

down Grafton Street and through Stephens Green. Overnight Davenport Hotel, Dublin (B, D)

Day 3 – This morning after breakfast we will enjoy a sightseeing tour around Dublin City. See elegant Georgian squares and houses, buildings

of historical importance including The Bank of Ireland at College Green and Dublin Castle. A guided tour of Dublin Castle will take us through

the elegant State Apartments, which are filled with elaborate Waterford Crystal chandeliers and portraits of prominent Irish leaders. Our

next stop today will be Trinity College to view the famous Book of Kells which was written around the year 800 AD and is one of the most

beautifully illuminated manuscripts in the world. It contains the four gospels, and was given to Trinity College in the 17th century. It has been

on display in the Old Library since the 19th century.

Overnight Davenport Hotel, Dublin (B, D)

Day 4 - We will travel to the West of Ireland today. Stopping on route at Clonmacnoise an early Christian site founded by St. Ciarán in the

mid-6th century on the banks of the River Shannon. The site includes the ruins of a cathedral, seven churches, a collection of high crosses and

the largest collection of Early Christian grave slabs in Western Europe. It is the reputed burial place of Ireland’s last High King, Rory O’Connor.

Arrive in Galway in the late afternoon. Time to relax for awhile before dinner, take a stroll along the “prom” and enjoy magnificent views

over Galway Bay. Overnight Jurys Inn, Galway (B, D)

Day 5 – Today we will travel into County Mayo to visit Ireland’s National Shrine at Knock. The story of Knock began on the 21st August 1879

when Our Lady, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist appeared at the south gable of Knock Parish Church. From this miraculous Apparition

Knock has grown to the status of an internationally recognized Marian Shrine. We will continue our journey into wild and wonderful

Connemara and visit the most photographed spot in Ireland, Kylemore Abbey. Visit the exquisite chapel and the elaborate public rooms in

the mansion and take a stroll through the restored Victorian walled gardens. Travel east to our final destination of the day, Galway City.

OR Visit Connemara Heritage Center (Turf cutting demonstration, story of Irish emigration, poitin (Irish moonshine) tasting ) & Kylemore

Abbey. Overnight Jurys Inn, Galway (B, D)

Day 6 – This morning we will travel south through the Burren Region. With its innate sense of spiritual peace, the Burren has an

extraordinary array of flora and wildlife, megalithic tombs and monuments older than Egypt's pyramids. Onward to the village of Doolin.

From there, we have planned a unique view of the famous Cliffs of Moher. Rather than the traditional walk up the steps, often crowded with

tourists like us, we have booked a cruise. Our voyage of discovery along the west coast of Ireland will prove to be an enriching, and fulfilling

experience. As we approach the Cliffs on the southern tip of Galway Bay and the Burren, you will gaze in awe at the scale and uniqueness of

this natural phenomenon. The Cliffs of Moher rise from the Atlantic Ocean to a height of 700 feet and extend for a distance of 5 miles.

Arrive in Killanney in the early evening. Overnight Killarney Manor, Killarney (B, D)

Day 7 – Today embark on the Ring of Kerry drive. This circular tour will reveal constantly changing vistas of mountains; open Atlantic Ocean,

beaches and cliffs. It is also a day we need good weather! On route we will visit the Skellig Heritage Center for an audiovisual presentation

and some time to explore the exhibit. Learn about the Skellig monks of the early Christian period, their activities, their endurance and their

dedication in gaining a foothold on a tiny, inhospitable, offshore island and creating a community there that survived for some 600 years. A

stop at Moll's Gap to view the three lakes with the mountains and town in the background is a photographic necessity. Overnight Killarney

Manor, Killarney (B, D)

Day 8 – A morning tour to the world famous Blarney Castle. The Castle was built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland’s greatest

chieftains, Cormac MacCarthy. Over the last few hundred years, millions have flocked to Blarney, making it a world landmark and one of

Ireland’s greatest treasures. At the top of the castle lies the Blarney Stone, the legendary Stone of Eloquence. Kiss it and you’ll never again be

lost for words. There will be time also for a short visit to the adjacent Blarney Woolen Mills, a favorite of shoppers. Return to Killarney and

enjoy some time at our leisure. Perhaps take a jaunting car ride over to Muckross House or into Killarney National Park. Spend some time

shopping in the town center or just take a stroll. Overnight Killarney Manor, Killarney (B, D

Day 9 – Today journey into County Kildare. On Route we will stop at the famous Rock of Cashel an enormous limestone mound bristling

with ancient fortifications. These include a cathedral, chapel, and castle, some of which date back to the 12th century. A brief audio/visual

presentation of this mighty structure helps explain its historical significance. Our next stop will be at the National Stud & Japanese Gardens

in Kildare where we will learn about Ireland's exciting horse breeding industry and see some of the magnificent horses. Then walk through

the compact Japanese Gardens, which are charmingly laid out to represent the "Life of Man" in oriental-style gardening. Arrive at the lovely

Kilashee Manor with some time to stroll the grounds or relax before our farewell dinner together. Overnight Kilashee Manor, Kildare (B, D)

Day 10 – After your final Irish breakfast travel to Dublin Airport. After check-in there will be time for last minute shopping at the Duty Free

Airports shops. (B)
