India and is famous for the silk sarees, Attar (Indian perfume), the Banarasi Paan. Banarasi saree is a

traditional wear for important occasions among Indian women. The saree is weaved from the finest silk,

which is decorated or embroidered with Silver, Gold, Brocade, or Zari creating complex patter on the

fabric.

Depending on the fiddly of its designs and patterns, a saree can take form 15 days to a month and

sometimes up to six months to complete. Banarasi sarees are mostly worn by Indian women on

important occasions like marriages, family events, baby shower, and so on. The earliest mention of the

of the brocade and Zari textiles of Banaras is found in the Mughal period around 14 century. Weaving of

brocades with intricate designs using gold and silver threads became the specialty of Banaras.

The Traditional Banarasi Saree is done with a lot of tough and skillful work using the silk. The saree

making is an important industry of Varanasi region comprising Gorakhpur, Chandauli, Bhadihi, Jaunpur,

and Azamgarh district involving approx. 12 lac people directly and indirectly.

The Banarasi silk handlooms industry has been going though huge losses because of competition from

mechanized units producing the Banarasi silk saree at the faster rate and at a cheaper cost. Besides,

sarees made from cheaper synthetic silk yarn are creating huge problem to pure silk industry.
