What is diet ? Diet can be defined as the normal food we eat.

What is Balanced diet ???A balanced diet means getting the right types and amounts of foods and drinks to supply nutrition and energy for maintaining body cells, tissues, and organs, and for supporting normal growth and development.

A Balanced Diet contain:-• 45-65% carbohydrates

• 20-35% fat

• 10-25% protein

IMPORTANT:

Eat less simple sugars/carbohydrates

Eat complex carbohydrates!!!!

Body’s use of substrate• Carbohydrates are easy to burn/metabolize

– Excess carbohydrates are normally stored as glycogen

• Fats take longer to metabolize

– Store excess in adipose tissue

• Proteins take even longer to metabolize

– Excrete what is not used
