JUNIOR CLASS:

The Junior Class has been out and about!

On Wednesday of last week Liz and Jim Renkin came to talk to the Junior Class about what Swanpool was like when they were growing up and what school was like for them both. We found out that Swanpool use to have a blacksmith, post office, hotel, butter factory, garage and bakery. Liz showed us her old dipping pen and fountain pen that she used to write with in school and her school reader. We then went out to visit the old Lima School where Jim went when he was a boy. A big thank you to both Liz and Jim for sharing some history with us. Here are some poems we wrote about our visit to Lima School. Old Lima School is old. Kids get the strap when naughty. The playground is fun. Pa planted a tree. Tree is big. Eleanor Lima School is 119 years old. Pa got the strap. Pa’s tree is over 50 years old. A rock found in Pa’s paddock. The playground is old. Amber The children sat on the desk. They wrote with a fountain pen. The big tree was beautiful. In the school must be icy cold. Pa got the strap. Toby The tree was old. The playground was old. Pa planted a tree, it’s old. The tree was so high you couldn’t climb it. You got the strap if you were naughty. You wrote 100 lines. Viola Lima School is 119 years old. The playground is small. The big tree is fun, it’s very big. The chairs are wobbly. There was only 11 people. Josh Lima School is 119 years old. The playground is small. Pa’s tree is very big. The children sat at a desk. Dustin Lima School is 119 years old. The children get the strap. The chairs are wobbly It’s cool, it’s hot, it’s cool, it’s hot. Breea

Lima School is 119 years old. Lima School has an old playground. The tree is very very old, but we can still climb it. All of the children got the strap. The chairs are really comfy. It’s hot it’s cold it’s hot it’s cold it’s hot. Natalia Lima School is 119 years old The children got the strap if they were naughty. The stone got found in Amber’s Pa’s paddock. Amber’s Pa’s tree is still growing. Lima school is cold in winter and hot in summer. Winter breeze, sun is coming. Just wait and wait it will be there soon. It’s coming. Fiona Sundial to tell the time. Flagpole to raise the flag. Small class cold in winter Hot in summer. Sit on a desk don’t mess around Or fingers get hurt. Molly Lima School is 119 years old. The extremely large tree will hopefully ever last. The playground was small and old too. Over all these years there would be over 70 children that went there. The school is only one classroom and is really small. Charlotte

On Tuesday this week, we all went to BPACC to see the film ‘The BFG’. I was very proud of our children’s behaviour. They did very well to sit through a two hour film, without to many trips to the toilet. We got a big surprise when we were given popcorn and a drink to add to our cinema experience. A big thank you to Sonia for spoiling us. We are currently reading the book ‘the BFG’ and can now compare what we read with how it was portrayed in the film. On Wednesday this week, the Junior Class went on a discovery walk around Baddaginnie. A big thankyou to Rose and Roy from the Baddaginnie community, for helping to organise the excursion and make it such a worthwhile experience. We talked about the hall being a place for the local community to get together, how the CFA volunteers work hard to keep the community safe and how the Op Shop raises money for community projects.

On Wednesday the whole class went to the Baddaginnie Hall. Then we went to the CFA and the Op Shop. I bought two video games. Then we went back to school. Toby On Wednesday the entire Junior Class went to the hall. We looked at some pictures on the stage. After that we went to the CFA. We got to meet Roy and we talked about what fire guards do. Then we went to the Op Shop. I bought sunglasses. Josh and me got the cool things. I wanted Josh’s jacket and he wanted my glasses. Then we went back to school. Natalia On Wednesday the Juniors went to the Baddaginnie Hall and then went to the CFA and then went to the Op Shop. At the CFA Roy told us about the special suits they wear. One for bush fires and another one for house fires. At the Op Shop I got a cool jacket. Josh

Yesterday our class went for a walk around Baddaginnie and visited the hall, CFA and the Op Shop and guess what I bought? Well I bought a jacket, two toys and a book for Libby. Then we walked back to school. The whole walk was excellent. I loved it! Eleanor On Wednesday the Junior room went for a walk around Baddaginnie. We went to the hall, there were old photos of Baddaginnie School. Next we went to the CFA. Roy told us about what his job is. Then we went to the Op Shop. I got nothing! Then we went back to school. Dustin Yesterday we went for a walk around Baddaginnie. We went to the Baddaginnie Hall. We looked at old photos of Baddaginnie. Next we went to the CFA and Roy talked about the CFA. Last we went to the Op Shop, we all bought something. I bought a case and a big teddy called Cuddles. Next we went back to school. Do you like to go to the Op Shop? Fiona Yesterday the Junior room went for a walk around Baddaginnie. We went to the hall, the CFA and the Op Shop. I bought high heels and some marbles and a glass plate for mum. Everyone got something out of the Op Shop. After that we all went back to school. Amber Yesterday the Junior Class went for a walk around Baddaginnie. We went to the Jubilee Hall, CFA and the Op Shop, because we are learning about our community. The word ‘Baddaginnie’ means I’m hungry or empty stomach! At the Jubilee Hall we looked at historical things about Baddaginnie. At the CFA station Roy, one of the people who work there, talked to us about the CFA. When we were at the Op Shop I bought an atlas about the world, a teddy and I called it Barry, a book called The Black Stallion and a basket. I wonder what the other towns stand for? I have to admit that I had an extremely good time. Charlotte Yesterday the whole class went for a walk around Baddaginnie because we are learning about our community. First we went to the Baddaginnie Hall to look at some pictures and I learnt that Baddaginnie means I’m hungry or hungry belly. After that we went to the fire station, also known as the CFA. We met a guy named Roy. He talked about what the CFA does. They do a lot. Then we went to the Op Shop. I got a pretty necklace and a blue bracelet for Rose. She loved it I hope because I got it with my piggy bank money. I wonder did everyone like their stuff and the big walk? Molly

SENIOR CLASS: On Tuesday the Senior Class had a visit from Chris Brown. Chris is a mountaineer and climbing trainer. We have been following him and his team as they attempted a climb Lenin Peak- the highest mountain in Kyrgyzstan. We have Skyped him while he was away and have begun to write some stories based on these conversations. The visit this week was amazing. Chris came dressed in all his gear and showed photos of the mountain and also from his time spent in Osh- the second largest city in Kyrgyzstan. We have all learned so much from this experience and hope to have our stories finished to share for the Writers Festival later this term. Thank you to Cornelia and Chris for including us in this journey.

Have a good weekend,

Eron, Roz, Kate, Pauline and Barb
