Theneed foranaccurate,easy touseandsecurebackupand recoverysystem iswell recognized.ThesuccessandsurvivalofanyorganizationisdependentontheelectronicdatathatisprocessedwithinitsITenvironment.Thishostofvaluabledata,however,issubjecttolosslikeanyphysicalasset–moreoftenthannotdatafilesaredeletedbymistake,areupdatedwithwronginformationorgetcorruptedforavarietyofreasons.Inaddition,thephysicalhardwaredevicesthatcontainsuchdata,arethemselvessubjecttofailureordestructionindisasterssuchasfire,earthquakes,hurricanes,etc.Assuchlossofdataisnotcompletelypreventableandaspermanentlossofdataisdetrimentaltoemployeeproductivityandperhapseventothesurvivalofthewholecompany,anylostdatamustberecoverablewithinareasonableamountoftime.Whatisneededisabackupandrecoverysystemthatmaintainsduplicatecopiesofallcriticaldatathatcanthenbeusetoconvenientlyrecoverlostdata.
Kaseya’sBackupandDisasterRecovery(BUDR)provides theneededreal-time,automateddiskbackup,diskimaging,file-levelbackupandrestoreforWindowsserversandworkstations.Unlikeconventionalfile-basedback-upproducts,Kaseya’sBackupandDisasterRecoverycreatesan imageof theentiresystemstate,includingoperatingsystem,usersettings,applicationsanddata.Applicationsandserversarealwaysavailablesincethebackupprocessdoesnotrequiresystemdowntime.Onceabackupiscreated,OffsiteReplicationcanbeused toensure that the imageand folderbackupsare immediatelyandautomaticallytransferredandstoredsafelyawayfromthebusinesslocation.Thisprocessiscompletelyautomatedandeliminatestheneedforphysicallytakingthebackupmedia,suchasCDsortapes,toanoff-sitelocationforstorage.

10.1.1 Backup StatusTheBackup Statuspageprovidesadashboardviewof thebackupstatusofmachine IDs thathave thebackupclientinstalled.

Thedashboardisorganizedintothefollowingpanes:
1. In Process Backups:Listsbackupsinprocessandthepercentagecomplete.
2. Backup Status at a Glance:Displayspiechartsshowingscheduled,succeeded,skipped,failedandcanceledbackups.Clickanysliceofthepiechartoranylabelofthepiecharttodisplayalistofindividualmachinesbelongingtothatslice.
3. Backup Status by Machine:Showsthestatusofbackupsscheduled,succeeded,skipped,failedorcanceledforeachmachine.Alsoshowswhenthelastsuccessfulbackupran,andifthebackupsarebeingreplicatedviaoffsitereplication.
4. Offsite Server Status:Displaysthetotalfiles,filesremainingtoupload,anddataremainingtoup-loadonoffsiteservers.Clickinganyofthehyperlinkedcountersdisplaysthefilesontheoffsite server.Ared/yellow/greenstatusiconindicatesthelowest statusamongalllocalserversconnectedtothatoffsiteserver.Soifasinglelocalserveramongseverallocalserversisinactive,theiconisred.Clickingthisiconopensapanel,whichdisplaysthestatusofalllocalserversassociatedwiththisoffsiteserver.

5. Local Server Status:Displaysthetotalfiles,filesremainingtoupload,dataremainingtouploadonlocalservers.Clickinganyofthehyperlinkedcountersdisplaysthefilesonthelocalserver.Clickingthelocalserverred/yellow/greenstatusiconredirectstotheBackup >Local Servers page.
6. Show Status for Last <N> <Periods> and Refresh: SpecifythenumberofperiodstocollecttheresultsshownonthispageandthenclicktheRefreshbutton.
10.1.2 Schedule VolumesTheSchedule VolumespageschedulesthebackupofvolumesforselectedmachineIDs.Thelistofma-chineIDsyoucanselectdependsonthemachineID/groupIDfilter.Todisplayonthispage,machineIDsmusthavebackupsoftwareinstalledonthemanagedmachineusingtheBackup > Install/Removepage.
Note: If a network connection is dropped, the system retries for up to 10 seconds before giving up.

9. Synthetic Full:Ifchecked,createsanewfullbackupbyconsolidatingexistingincrementalordif-ferentialbackupswiththepreviousbasefullbackupimage.
10. Verify Backup:Ifchecked,verifieseachbackupimageimmediatelyaftereachfull,incremental,ordifferentialbackupcompletes.Verifytakesthesameamountoftimeastheoriginalbackuptocomplete.Onlyverifyinsituationswhereyouquestiontheintegrityofthenetworkconnectiontothebackupfilelocation.Youdonotgenerallyneed touse thisoption.Use theVerify Images function tospotcheckbackupfilesatanytime.ClickApplytoapplythesesettingstoselectedmachineIDswithoutchangingthebackupschedule.

10.1.3 Pre/Post ProcedureUsePre/Post ProcedurepagetorunagentprocedureseitherbeforeaScheduleVolumesbackupstartsorafteritcompletes.Usethispagetosuspendservicesthatmaylockfilesandpreventvolumebackupfromcompleting.Youmayalsowishtoforceasystemservice,suchasExchangeoradatabase,towriteallitsdatatodiskpriortosystembackup.Typicallythiscanbedonewithoutrequiringtheserviceinquestiontobedownduringbackup.Allcriticalservicescanbeleftfullyoperationalatalltimes.Forexample,tobackupanExchangeServer,asnapshotofthedatabaseisneededpriortothebackupstart.AprocedurewillquicklystartandstopExchangetotakethesnapshotofthedatabasepriortothestartofthebackup.
To Run a Pre/Post Procedure
1. SelectmachineIDs.
2. Clicktheselect script linktoselectanagentproceduretorunbeforeaScheduleVolumesbackupstartsorafteritcompletes.
3. Ifrunninganagentprocedureafterabackupcompletes,specifywhethertheagentprocedureshouldrunafterabackupcompleteswithanystatus,withsuccessorwithfailure.
4. ClickSet.

10.2.1 Explore VolumesTheExplore Volumespagemountsavolumebackupasanewreadonlydriveletteronthesamemachineor on a differentmachine.The backup volume can be browsed, just like any other drive,withWindowsExplorer.Individualfilesorfolderscanbecopiedfrommountedbackupvolumestoanyotherfolderonyourlocalmachineyouhavewriteaccessto.MountedvolumebackupsremainavailableforbrowsingunlessthecomputerisrebootedorthedriveisunmountedbyclickingtheUnplug Allbutton.

10.2.2 Explore FoldersTheExplore Folders pagerestoresfolderbackupstoaspecifieddirectoryonatargetmachine,maintainingthesamestructuretheyhadinthebackup.UnlikeExploreVolumes,thispagecannotmountthedataasanewdriveletter.Manuallydeleterestoredbackupfolderstoremovethem.
Note:AuserwithaccessrightstotheBackup > Image Locationmustbeloggedinatthetimethebackupismounted.

10.2.6 CD RecoveryTheCD Recoverypagerestoresvolumebackupimagestothesamemachineorsametypeofmachinethatthebackupwascreatedon.CDRecoveryrequiresthetargetmachinebebootedfromaCD.
UseCDRecovery torestorebackup images if thetargetmachine’sagentcannotcurrentlycommunicatewiththeKServer.ThetargetmachinemustbephysicallyconnectedtoanetworkthatprovidesaccesstotheKServer.OncethetargetmachinebootsupfromtheCD,nofurtheruserinteractionisrequired.Thenetworkcardisconfiguredautomatically.TheKServerautomaticallydownloadsandrestoresabackupimagetothetargetmachine.
Procedure
1. Create an ISO file-IfanISOimagefilerecorddoesn’talreadyexistinthepagingarea,createanewISOimagefilebyclickingtheCreateNewISObutton.ThesameISOfileiscreatedeachtimethisbuttonisclicked,butwithadifferentfilename.ItistheISOfilenameontherecoveryCDthattellstheKServerwhichmachineIDandbackupimagetorestorefrom.
2. Select a Machine ID-AssociateamachineIDwiththeISOfile.ThemachineIDmustspecifyanImageLocationthatcontainsthebackupimageyouwanttorestore.
3. Select a Backup Image -AssociateabackupimagetimestampwiththeISOfilenameandmachineID.
4. Download the ISO image-DownloadthecreatedISOfiletoaworkstationthatcanwritetheISOfiletoaCD.
5. Create the Recovery CD-UseaCDrecordingapplicationtowritetheISOfileasanimagetoaCD.DonotsimplycopytheISOfiletotheCDasadatafile.
6. Boot the target machine using the recovery CD-Thetargetmachinemustbephysicallycon-nectedtoanetworkthatprovidesaccesstotheKServer.

ISO Image File BuildsArecoverybootCDiscreatedusinganISOimagefilethatyoudownloadandburntoaCD.IfyoudiscovertherecoverybootCDyouareusingfailstorestoreaparticularbackupimagefile,trycreatinganewrecoverybootCDusingadifferentbuildversionoftheISOimagefile.YoucandisplaythelistofISOimagefileversionssupportedbyKaseyabyclickingthehyperlinkinthesentenceIfthereareanyproblemswiththeRecoveryBootCD,youmaydownloadadditionalbuildshere.

3. Afterthesystemloadstherecoveryprogram,clicktheRecoverylinkfromthelistoftasks.
4. Therecoverywizardstarts.ClickNextandnavigatetothedirectorycontainingthebackupimageyouwishtorestore.ThebackupimagedirectoryforeachmachinecanbefoundatBackup > Image Location. If themachinestoringyourbackup imagedoesnotappearonthe list, type it intotheFilename:boxas\\computername\imagelocation\.Youmaybepromptedtoauthenticatetothatmachineinordertobrowseit.
5. Selectthebackupimagefromthelefthandnavigationpanel.TheimagenameisalwaysintheformagentGuid\VolBackup\fulldate\volBackupX.tibwhereXisanumber.Selectanyofthenumberedimagefiles.Theyallarepartofthesamebackupforthenamedmachine.ThenclickNext.
