FIRST YEAR
During your fi rst year, you will dive
straight into the world of law. From the
very beginning, you will experience
the reality of the legal practice with the
simulation of diff erent legal professions
in a global economy.
Through comparative legal methodol-
ogy, you will become familiar with the
principles and foundations of private,
civil, and criminal law, which includes
the analysis of diff erent legal systems.
You will also learn about law history
and public international law, developing
critical thinking and reasoning skills,
which will lead you to have a thorough
understanding of the legislation that
governs relations between states, tradi-
tional international organizations, and
other international players.
SECOND YEAR
This innovative and practical learning
carries on into your second year to
help develop the soft skills and atti-
tudes that will allow you to become
a legal professional. Through the
Introduction to Litigation course, you
will obtain the skills required to un-
derstand and eff ectively use the main
principles and categories that make up
civil procedures.
From a comparative and international
perspective, you will continue with
criminal law and obtain a solid founda-
tion in regards to the common princi-
ples of administrative law, employment
law, and property law. Special attention
will be given to private international
law, and you will acquire knowledge of
various EU institutions and their tasks
in relation to EU law.
At the end of the year, you will have
an in-depth knowledge of the relevant
legal issues that concern companies
and commercial enterprises, through
an understanding of commercial and
corporate law institutions and rules.
THIRD YEAR
As you progress to your third year, you
will deal with the most signifi cant
aspects of litigation, such as procedures
for civil, labor, and criminal law. You
will develop critical thinking and
analyze the main concerns that appear
during legal practice, such as civil
disobedience or the fairness of justice.
Further emphasis will be placed on the
management skills that are required to
manage a law fi rm and develop your
professional career. If you want to start
your career as soon as possible, you will
have the chance to do an internship at
law fi rms such as Cuatrecasas, PwC, and
Latham & Watkins.
You will have classes on taxation,
accounting, and nance, in addition to
learning about the most fundamental
structural elements of a tax system. You
will review and compare key tax con-
cepts in an international environment
and obtain basic notions of fi nance from
a theoretical and practical standpoint.
You will also develop the skills needed to
understand the administration of family,
state, and trusts.
FOURTH YEAR
This is probably your most exciting
year! If you choose to practice law in
Spain, this year you will be given the
option to do an internship at a presti-
gious law fi rm or do an exchange study
program for up to one semester at one
of our respected partner institutions.
You will also be able to personalize
your studies by taking electives such as
Competition Law or Advanced EU Law,
and even learn how they practice law
in India or China. You will also be able
to participate in international events
like moot courts or LawWithoutWalls.
Aft er your fourth year you can contin-
ue with a Máster en Abogacía or LL.M.
at IE Law school.
If you choose the Dual LL.B., Bachelor
of Laws plus Bachelor in Civil and
English Law, your fourth year will be
at the University of Law in England,
doing the Legal Practice Course.
Throughout your fi rst three years,
you will have followed online courses
made available by the University of
Law, England.
If you’ve chosen the Bachelor of Laws
with a LL.M. or a J.D. at Northwestern
University, year four will be situated
in the United States. A LL.M will take
you one year, a J.D will take you two
years to fi nish. It will take you one year
to complete a LL.M, or two years to
complete a J.D. Once you are back in
Madrid you will write your fi nal thesis
to graduate with a high knowledge of
civil and common law, and a full un-
derstanding of the U.S. legal system.

is designed for students who wish
to quickly adapt to studying fully in
English in the LL.B. program at IE
University. This track is led by the IE
Law School and it is available for fi rst
year LL.B. students. It will allow you to
access the Bachelor of Laws in English
and study with people from over 100
countries while strengthening your
language skills. The enrolled students
have an early start that begins a few
weeks before the academic year, and
lasts one academic year.
Students who take part in the
Language Pro ciency Track will be
required to enroll in:

2. Continuous support throughout the fi rst year:In addition to your regular LL.B.
subjects, throughout your fi rst year
you will have some mandatory courses
that are meant to improve your En-

WHO IS IT FOR?
The program is designed for any
non-native English speaker who needs
to enhance their English skills starting
their very fi rst year of study, in order to
complete the entire degree in English.

international environment and facing challenges at a global
scale. In order to prepare you for the real world and avoid
language constraints, our Bachelor of Laws is fully delivered
in English. For those who need to improve their English
language skills in order to study law in its international
language and graduate with an advanced profi ciency level,
we off er a special track during the fi rst year.
THINGS TO REMEMBER
1. The Language Profi ciency Track
is mandatory for those candidates
who have been admitted to the
LL.B. + LPT. This will not only
enhance their language skills, but
will also help them build their
confi dence and adjust to the
environment.
2. The Summer Early Start cannot
be substituted with a summer
course abroad or English classes at
an academy, since it is part of the
LL.B. program and you will learn
specifi c content that is relevant to
your law studies.
3. The reinforcement subjects are
compulsory and cannot be replaced
by other courses.
4. In their second year, all LPT

“After fi nishing
high school in
Palma de Mallorca,
I decided to stay in
Spain because I fell in love with its
captivating culture, rich language,
vast historical heritage, and
incredibly warm-hearted people.
I think Spain is unique in how
welcoming it is to foreigners—one
can easily become integrated into its
society and acquire a true sense of
belonging.
When it comes to my degree, I
decided to study law for many
reasons. First of all, I felt that law is
the kind of discipline that provides
you with a substantial set of
theoretical and practical skills that
are useful in pursuing a meaningful
career in the future. I believed that
law is a fascinating tool that will
allow me to make a difference in
the lives of my future clients. In
other words, you could say that it
was my internal sense of justice
that made it appeal to me. Finally, I
wanted to study a complex subject.
I enjoy challenging myself and I felt
that law is a diffi cult discipline that
would catalyze both my academic
and personal growth. In that sense,
and in many others, I found what I
wanted at IEU.
I would also like to point out that
most of the professors actually
practice law themselves, which I
believe to be of crucial importance.
The professors possess the most up-
to-date perspectives on their area of
expertise and share their invaluable
practical knowledge with us.
In addition to providing high-quality
education, IE University is very much
an up-to-date and modern university
that does everything it can to ensure
its alumni fi nd the best jobs after
graduating. They put a lot of effort
into organizing events, such as
job fairs, where students can meet
potential recruiters and important
contacts. They also provide each
student with a mentor, whose aim is
to guide us through the journey and
help us resolve any problems we face.
I’m also very grateful that IE
University is gaining a great
reputation both in Spain and
internationally. This is very important
considering the fact that it’s often
diffi cult for alumni of private
institutions to compete with
graduates of prestigious traditional
universities.”

CORPORATE LAWYER
If you decide to work as corporate lawyer, you will ensure business risks are minimized and corporate functions conform to the law on every level. You will also specialize in multiple aspects of law and how it pertains to business operations, as well as study, draft , and negotiate contracts. You will consider issues such as acquisition processes, harassment suits, liability manners and tax consequences, and ensure the legality of commercial transactions, advising corporations on their legal
rights and duties.
TRANSNATIONAL LAWYER
As a transnational lawyer, you will represent clients in civil court proceedings—working inside courtrooms—regulate actions or events that transcend national borders, and resolve transnational disputes between private parties. You will also be assisting clients in numerous asset fi nancing transactions from diff erent countries, and draft ing international joint venture
agreements.
Once you fi nish your degree, you’ll be ready to get out there and develop your career in a wide range of areas. Whether you are inspired by working at law fi rms, companies, or public practices in Public Administration, as an IE University law graduate, you will be more than prepared to use your expertise to provide a service to society on an international scale, and to make a positive impact in your fi eld and potentially beyond. Below you will fi nd some of the areas you can specialize in.
LEGAL ADVISOR
As a legal advisor, you will provide high quality advice to organizations on major legal issues. You will also assist in the interpretation and review of legal documents to help make decisions about project undertakings, and formulate the best possible legal solution with a desired outcome from the organization’s point of view. Last but not least, you will be actively involved in preparing and draft ing diff erent acts and legal submissions.
No matter which career path you
decide to focus on, you will be making
a signifi cant impact on society,
and you’ll prove yourself to be the
international lawyer you have always
dreamed of becoming.
PROFESSIONAL CAREERSA world of opportunity
“IE University has
given me many
opportunities.
In September I’ll
start working at
Cuatrecasas, one of the top Spanish
law fi rms, where I’ll pursue a four-year
international program. During the
program I’ll be able to work at Cuatre-
casas’ offi ces in Barcelona and Madrid,
gain work experience abroad, and
complete a master’s in the US.
Studying at IEU has helped me differ-
entiate myself from other candidates
because of three main things: the
international experience I’ve gained
during these years here, the practical
and soft skills I’ve learned, and the en-
trepreneurial and innovative approach
to law that I’ve been taught.”

Start-Up LabThe IEU Start-Up Lab is an incu-
bator where you can develop your
business plans and make them
investment-ready with guidance
from professors and entrepre-
neurs.
IEU Labs are IE University’s alternative to traditional
work placements. They provide hands-on, intern-
ship-like experience on campus to fi rst- and second-year
students who wish to begin gaining professional experi-
ence. There are ten labs to choose from, and each allows
you to build your professional profi le and gain valuable
practical knowledge of diff erent sectors. You will also
extend your professional network through direct contact
with managers and directors of leading companies.
Throughout the program, you
will work under the tutorship of
professors, while experts provide
training in areas like marketing,
funding, and strategy and legal aspects,
among others.
When the time comes to choose,
you will be able to apply to a lab that
matches your professional interests,
or try one outside of your fi eld of study
in order to broaden your knowledge
and work with students from other
programs.
All labs start at the beginning of the
academic year and continue year-
round. In May and June, you will
work full-time in the IEU Labs and
participate in common modules
and activities, including advanced
seminars for professional skills, weekly
presentations of your work, business
simulations, and extracurricular
activities.

Sample project:
PAELLA CHEF
Objective: specialize in the creation
and distribution of canned paella in
Spain and the rest of the world.
Best things about it: we got to start a
company from scratch and be present
at each step of the process, from
the business plan to the corporate
image. We knew that in June we were
presenting to real investors, which was
very motivating!
Most challenging aspect: customer ac-
quisition. Even though we stated how
we were planning on reaching out to
customers—through paid research,
organic research/SEO, PR, social
media, inside sales, etc.—we ended up
realizing that some of our assump-
tions were wrong or too expensive,
so we had to rethink our customer
acquisition protocols.

have the option to travel to developing
countries in order to participate in real
projects that have a visible, tangible
eff ect.

Sample project:
PÉREZ-LLORCA
Objective: analyze a law fi rm’s website,
compare it with the global market and
come up with a proposal that will differen-
tiate it from its competitors.
Best things about it: meeting with the
client to obtain feedback and adapt our
proposals to best meet their require-
ments and needs. Knowing that they were
going to implement our ideas was a huge
motivation.
Most challenging aspect: finding the perfect
balance between being creative and
innovative while also staying loyal to the
brand’s image and values.
Sample project:
WEBER SHANDWICK
Objective: analyze the political, social,
economic, and legal trends that Weber
Shandwick’s multinational clients must
be aware of while doing business in
different countries, in order to propose an
institutional relations and communication
strategy.
Best things about it: the opportunity to
work in multidisciplinary teams, guided by
Weber Shandwick experts, and identify
industry insights that allowed us to come
up with accurate analyses and proposals.
Most challenging aspect: presenting results
and strategy proposals to the clients that
were worthy of Weber Shandwick’s reputa-
tion and market standards.
Sample project:
FINANCIERS WITHOUT BORDERS NGO
Objective: develop a microcredit project
and a basic fi nancial literacy course to
improve the socioeconomic conditions of
the Larbie community in Awutu, Ghana.
Best things about it: we got to travel to
Ghana for research and data collection,
which was a fantastic experience. All the
information we obtained was used to
provide fi nancial and organizational rec-
ommendations so that the institutions we
were working with could achieve enough
sustainability to become attractive to
private investors.
Most challenging aspect: knowing that all
of our decisions were going to affect real
people.

FROM LIMIT TO LIVE IT
Objective: come up with a proposal for
an international temporary art contest to
decorate Segovia’s city wall. Establish the
rules and create the graphic material to
send out to participants.
Best things about it: it was a very creative
project where all ideas were welcome. The
contest had specifi c objectives, but we
were encouraged to think freely and come
up with innovative proposals in order to
meet those goals.
Most challenging aspect: coming up with the
evaluation criteria was one of the most
challenging hurdles. We needed to make
sure that each aspect evaluated would
give real value to the contestant’s propos-
als and at the same time make sure it was
viable, innovative, etc.
Sample project:
ONE-TO-ONE CORPORATE FINANCE
Objective: analyze a company’s high-per-
formance benefi ts, real estate transac-
tions, and investments in private equity
funds.
Best things about it: the fact that we got
to evaluate a company’s real activity and
value.
Most challenging aspect: being able to think
long-term and come up with fl exible solu-
tions to problems which have yet to arise.
Sample project:
PRODIS
Objective: conduct a study among medi-
um-sized enterprises in Madrid to ensure
compliance with laws regarding the rights
of disabled people.
Best things about it: we raised awareness
about a topic that could make a huge
difference in our society, particularly to
those in poor health.
Most challenging aspect: fi nding out that
a big percentage of the companies we
interviewed are not aware of the law and
the alternative measures to be implement-
ed in hiring disabled people. That was
quite discouraging.
Sports LabThis lab monitors and reports on
issues pertaining to sports players,
teams, and coaches, and produces

the widest range of companies, insti-

creating content such as blogs, videos,
and other media content according to
the clients’ needs.
“Joining a lab is a fantastic
experience since you get to know
more about a topic that you are

case, fi nance. I’ve always been
interested in it and this was a fi rst

Sample project:
ATLÉTICO DE MADRID
Objective: predict and evaluate players’
behavior.
Best things about it: we got to develop
activities aimed at improving the lives of
athletes and also demonstrate the value of
sports to society.
Most challenging aspect: in order to be
heard and get our ideas implemented, we
needed to make sure that absolutely ev-
erything in our proposal was well founded
and based on empirical evidence.
Sample project:
VOICES OF THE ROYAL THEATER
Objective: execute a project to transform
the opera into an accessible and trendy
activity for young people.
Best things about it: we fi rst had to immerse
ourselves in the world of opera singers
in order to understand their passion for
the art!
Most challenging aspect: avoid making
assumptions about why young people
aren’t interested in opera. We needed to
come up with effective ways to learn their
reasons and motivations in order to create
a campaign that would impact the target
audience.

Smith, Hogan Lovells, Latham & Watkins and Linklaters,
among other companies.
INTERNSHIPSIn touch with the real world
Tell us about your
internship. How was
the recruiting process—
steps, tests, interviews?
My internships took
place at the end of my
second year, and the recruiting pro-
cesses were quite simple! Even though
each fi rm has their own process, and
sometimes these involve multiple
phases, in my case it wasn’t that long.
The fi rst fi rm I got in touch with was
Dawson Cornwell, a London-based
fi rm specialized in family law, and
they only asked me to send my CV.
Thankfully, I had taken part in multiple
activities at IE University, and I was
very proactive as well, which made a
good fi rst impression. This made me
realize the importance of getting in-
volved in the extracurricular activities
that are offered to you during your
university years. The second selection
process was in Gastão da Cunha Fer-
reira, an intellectual property law fi rm
located in Lisbon. Here I had to send
my CV as well, and write a cover letter
explaining why I wanted the internship
and what made me the most suitable
candidate for the position.
What types of projects did you work on?
I had the opportunity to be involved in
several projects. Usually, the number
of tasks you are assigned, and their
relevance, is directly related to how
much they trust you. For that reason,
it is quite important to demonstrate
your capacities and reliability from
day one. In London, I was attending
daily hearings in the Family Division
and in the High Court, where I had
to take notes on everything going
on inside and outside the courtroom,
related to our clients. I also had to
attend meetings with clients and
barristers, and draft legal documents,
such as chronologies of cases, among
other tasks. In Lisbon it was more of
an offi ce job, and I had to deal with
trademarks, applications, and collect-
ing evidence to support opposition
proceedings, among other tasks.
What was one of the highlights?
One of the projects I enjoyed most
while working in Lisbon was preparing
a presentation for app developers to
inform them about IP rights and how
they’re an important intangible asset
to protect their apps. This gave me a
theoretical and practical knowledge of
how to solve problems that knock on
the door of IP law fi rms on a daily basis.
How do you think you benefi ted from
this experience?
The experience was absolutely unique,
as I learned what it’s like working in a
city such as London, where everything
moves very fast and you need to learn
how to be effi cient and organized in
order to keep track of everything.
What are your future career aspirations?
After I do my Master’s Degree in
‘Acceso a la Abogacía’, I would like
to work as a lawyer in a large fi rm.
Although I’m still not completely sure
which area I’d like to focus on, there
are some specializations that appeal
to me more than others, such as labor
law, corporate law, and competition
law. During my studies and intern-
ships, these areas were defi nitely
some of my favorites!
What tips or advice would you give
to other students applying for an
internship?
I would recommend looking for intern-
ships where they get to be involved in
areas of law that truly interest them. If
you get the chance to be involved in an
area where you can see yourself work-
ing in the future, the motivation will
be higher throughout the process and
it’ll show in your performance. I’d also
recommend doing several internships.
Working in different environments
defi nitely develops your adaptation
skills, and enhances your knowledge of
different cultures and companies.
“Once you graduate and start working, you’ll know what to expect,
and most importantly, what is expected from you”
“The great advantage internships
present is mainly that you
are involved in real working
environments, so once you graduate
and start working, you know what
to expect and most importantly, you
know what is expected from you”

experiencing other cultures and making new connections.
At IE University we believe that seeing your studies from
new perspectives is a life-changing experience. That’s why
we encourage students to spend one or two semesters at one

“Studying in Hong Kong was a life-

myself in a completely diff erent

When I wake up I try to squeeze in
15 minutes of morning yoga, to take
a deep breath before I start running
around and working.
Taxation Law with Professor Alvaro
de la Via, who gives us the ins and
outs of life as a taxation lawyer.
Through a combination of theory
and practice, we learn about what
to do, and moreover, what not
to do as a lawyer, and also as an
individual in society.
Today we’ll attend a double session
of Accounting and Finance. Though
it doesn’t seem directly related to
the legal fi eld, it’s still essential to
be able to understand the basic
principles of accounting and to
read a balance sheet.
I go directly from classes to the
home of a Spanish family, where
I teach English to two little girls
during their lunch time. I talk
and play with them, and in the
meantime I get to see how real
Madrileños live. Apart from that, life
in Madrid doesn’t pay for itself, so
it is always nice to have a little job
on the side.
One of Spain’s best inventions is
the siesta (afternoon nap). The
secret is to not take it for longer
than 30 minutes. Anything less
provides you with a power boost.
Anything more will make you feel
very tired for the rest of the day.
I prepare for my classes for the
next day, which includes doing the
required readings, answering some
questions we will be discussing in
class, doing some initial research
for an upcoming essay, and having
a Skype meeting with my group to
go over some last points before our
fi nal presentation.
I meet up with some friends to go
have a drink and some tapas in one
of the numerous bars in Madrid,
where we catch up, and maybe
even make plans on what to do for
the weekend, such as visiting the
Prado Museum or taking a day trip
to Toledo.

What do you like most
about studying at IE
University?
I like that within my
group of friends from
the university, there is always a mini-
mum of four different backgrounds and
nationalities, which allows us to learn a
great deal from one another, not only
from what we’ve learned academical-
ly, but also by sharing our different
cultures.
When it comes to classes, our profes-
sors always make sure to provide us
with real-life examples of how their
subject is relevant to the everyday life
of a lawyer, which makes it easier for us
as students to understand what they’re
teaching. In addition, because the
classes are relatively small compared
to other universities, we all have the
freedom to ask questions and engage
in group discussions, which makes the
subject sessions very dynamic.
Lastly, because IE University really
encourages us to look beyond what
goes on in the classroom, we gain
an insight into the professional
world through networking, talks, and
internships. Over the summer, I spent
a month doing an internship at one of
Spain’s largest law fi rms, which gave
me a real idea of what it’s like to be a
lawyer.
Are you involved in any extracurricular
activities?
I’ve been a member of the IEU Event
Planning Committee, which enabled me
to organize the annual IEU Spring Ball.
I’ve also been a class representative
for three years in a row, making me
the bridge between my class and the
administration, and allowing our voices
to be heard. I’ve also been part of the IE
Legal Clinic, which is a legal lab for stu-
dents, led by professors and master’s
students, that provides pro bono aid for
those in need. Overall, I was very happy
with the opportunities IEU offers us to
be involved in everyday student life, so
that we all feel like we’re contributing
something to the university.
What are your favorite subjects and
why?
One of my favorite subjects of the past
few years was Confl icts and Business
Law, on the one hand because I am very
interested in the combination of civil
law and business, and on the other hand
because the professor was great at
explaining his fi eld of expertise. Another
real treasure I found in our curriculum
was Civil Law Property, which discusses
property and transaction rights. I liked
it because it’s a subject that you have
to deal with whether you are a lawyer
or not. Lastly, I really enjoyed Legal
Thought—which is the equivalent to
Legal Philosophy—because though it
may not be as practical as the other
subjects, I still think it’s interesting and
essential to learn about the roots of
where today’s laws come from, and to
look at the great thinkers that helped
shape our society’s ideals.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF...
“When I think of IE University, I think of the diversity, the hands-on
experience, the closeness with the professors, and the opportunities”
“[...] because the classes are
relatively small compared to other
universities, we all have the freedom
to ask questions and engage in group
discussions”

At IE University, thereʼs no single deadline for
applying to our undergraduate programs. We have
a rolling admissions policy, which means that you
can apply to IE at any point during the year. The
various stages of our admission process are aimed
at identifying those areas of your academic and
personal profi le that make you unique, and to make
sure that our educational model is a good fi t for you.
As our programs usually fi ll up far in
advance of the start of the academic year,
we advise candidates to apply between
three to six months before the semester
begins. This will also allow you time to
obtain any necessary visas or otherqua-
lifi cations.
Once you have received an acceptance
letter, provisional or defi nitive, you must
make a €1,500 non-refundable deposit
to reserve your spot in the bachelorʼs
program of your choice.
ADMISSION PROCESSBecome part of IE University
COMMITTEE DECISION-
MAKING
Once you have completed the
steps above, the Admissions Com-
mittee reviews your application
fi le, assesses your profi le, and de-
termines whether or not you can
advance to the fi nal application
phase: a personal interview.
PERSONAL INTERVIEW
The Admissions Department calls
those who have been successful
during the admission process. You
can be interviewed either on the
IE University campuses in Segovia
or Madrid, or at any of our 25
international offi ces. If you’re not
easily able to reach any of these
offi ces, we can arrange an online
interview.
The interview will allow us to get
to know you better and assess
certain qualities, such as your
personality, your ability to defend
your point of view and express
yourself, as well as other commu-
nication skills.
ONLINE APPLICATION
You can download the application
form on our website. The form
contains detailed step-by-step
instructions to guide you through
the process.
Your application is subject to a
non-refundable admission fee of
¤120. Information on how to pay
this fee is included at the end of
the form.
ADMISSION TEST
Take IE University’s admission test
or international admission tests:
the SAT, ACT, CAS, or LNAT.
The IE University admission test
assesses the verbal, logical, and
quantitative abilities you have
acquired both within and out-
side the classroom. Above all, it
centers on your ability to reason,
rather than on any particular set
of information. This means you
don’t need to study for the test
beforehand.
FINAL COMMITTEE DECISION
After the Admissions Committee
reviews your complete application
and reaches a fi nal decision, you
will receive written notifi cation
of your admission. Once admit-
ted, you may apply for scholar-
ships and fi nancial aid, make the
non-refundable deposit of ¤1,500,
and submit the documentation
required for enrollment.
If you have any questions or
would like us to explain person-
ally how the application and
admission processes work, don’t
hesitate to contact us by email at
