Students rephrase each of the forms by replacing the reflexive pronouns with the synonyms: on my own, on your own, on his own, on her own, on their own, on our own and vice versa. 1. He decorated the house by himself - He decorated the house on his own. 2. She went to the party on her own - She went to the party by herself 3. I used to go to school by myself - I used to go to school on my own. 4. They ran the business by themselves for many years - They ran the business on their own for many years. 5. Why were you in the cinema by yourself? - Why were you in the cinema on your own? 6. My parents would never let me go to school by myself. 7. Do you enjoy going on holiday on your own? 8. The children were left by themselves all day. 9. Helena travelled around Europe by herself. 10. When my grandparents were very old, they couldn’t do anything on their own. 11. The schoolchildren came up with the idea on their own. 12. Marco fought off the muggers on his own. 13. Simon often went to the pub by himself. 14. I prefer to go on holiday on my own. 15. I don’t like going to the theatre by myself. 16. My father would do all the repairs in our house on his own. 17. They managed to find the hotel by themselves. 18. We were left to manage the business by ourselves. 19. I don’t like to walk through the park at night on my own. 20. The British never won the Second World War on their own. 21. Football is a team sport and you cannot win a match by yourself. 22. She did a good job of raising her children on her own. 23. Our father raised us all by himself. 24. Sara prepared the report on her own. 25. The team prepared for the tournament by themselves. 26. I drove to France by myself. 27. Mohammed set up his company on his own. 28.
