DiLink System Troubleshooting Tips

TECHNICAL CORNER With

Jason Paulus

Excitationvoltagecanbe7.2VDCor10VDCdepending on the version of the DiLink board. EithertheUserMenuDiagnosticsorSetupmenu/Scale:Digital/Test menu can be used to aid in troubleshooting.

TheinternalcountsintheTestmenuare“live”,meaning load cells can be plugged and unplugged for troubleshooting without the need to cycle power on the indicator.

Ifaloadcellpositionisshowing“noconnection”,a simulator can be wired to it. If it works with the simulator,thenthereisaloadcellproblem.Ifitdoesnot,thenthereisaproblemwiththeDiLinkboard.

The load cells themselves are not addressed. This means that if diagnostics show cell#3 is reading “no connection”,cell#3andcell#4canbeswapped.Iftheproblemmovestoposition#4inthediagnosticsmenu,thentheloadcellistheproblem.Iftheproblemremainsinposition#3,thentheDiLinkboard is the problem.

Uploading Calibration to Replacement Indicator:

UnderDigitalScaleParameters, setthenumberof load cells to the correct value. Indicator should powerupwitherror-08-onthedisplay.TheUserMenu Diagnostics should show readings for all load cells.

Perform Setup Menu/Scale:Digital/Terminal Data Reinstatement. Scale should now be functional.

Downloading Calibration to Replacement DiLink Board:

SetDIPswitchesasrequiredonDiLinkboard.Indicatorshouldpowerupwith-08-onthedisplay.TheUserMenuDiagnosticsshouldshowreadingsforall load cells.

Perform Setup Menu/Scale:Digital/Terminal Data Storage. Scale should now be functional.

Defaulting DiLink Board:

Positions on the DiLink board must be defaulted one at a time. Disconnect all load cell connections from the board except for the one to be defaulted. Ex: to default position 3:Unplugcells,1and2.Leavecell#3connectedin the #3 position. Disconnect everything after #3. Perform Setup Menu/Maintenance/Cell Emergency Routine.PressDEFAUsoftkey,followedbyYES.

Ghosting a load cell:

In case of loadcellfailure, thesystemcanbereturned to service temporarily. Jumper the SIG pins on the DiLink board as shown:

+SIG(failedcell)..…+SIG(oppositecell,samesection)

-SIG(failedcell).…...-SIG(oppositecell,samesection)
