BS-four Years Textile Design program comprises of 8 semesters with 146 credit hours. Outline of the courses is as under.

Duration of the Program:

The duration of BS TEXTILE DESIGN IS FOUR YEARS (08 SEMESTERS)

Credit Requirements

Standardized layout of the Program is designed with the proportion of studio and theory courses.

Ratio 70:30

Studio Courses: 106/147 Credit Hours

Theory Courses: 41/147 Credit Hours

Eligibility: At least 45% marks in intermediate.

Main Features of BS Textile Design Program

The main feature of this program is the addition of some courses related to fashion design. Textile design is all about the process of greater understanding design aesthetics and harmony, it basically deals with the surface of the fabric that will be used in different attires, whereas fashion design carry out the natural and aesthetical elements related to clothing and its accessories. This course will not only deal with the surface design but will also be helpful in researching the fashion trends and their interpretation in the fashion market.

Following subjects of Fashion design are well integrated with Textile design course to effectuate better young designers.

The course is designed for students with mid- to upper-level developmental skills who may benefit from an intensive skill-building curriculum that targets English and reading skills. Houghton Mifflin Company; 1991 PKST-101 Pakistan Studies 2(2-0) Course Objectives: The course is designed to acquaint the students of BS programs with the rationale of the creation

of Pakistan. The students would be apprised of the emergence, growth and developments of Muslim nationalism in South Asia and the struggle for freedom, which ultimately led to the establishment of Pakistan. While highlighting the main objectives of national life, the course explains further the socio-economic, political and cultural aspects of Pakistan’s endeavors to develop and progress in the contemporary world. For this purpose, the foreign policy objectives and Pakistan’s foreign relations with neighboring and other

allied countries are also included. This curriculum has been developed to help students analyze the socio-political problems of

Pakistan while highlighting various phases of its history before and after the partition and to develop a vision in them to become knowledgeable citizens of their homeland.

● Introduction to the Course ● Geography of Pakistan: Geo-Strategic Importance of Pakistan ● Freedom Movement and Pakistan Movement ● Nationalism in South Asia and Two Nations Theory ● Ideology of Pakistan ● Initial Problems of Pakistan ● Political and Constitutional Developments in Pakistan

o Hurdles in Constitution Making and the Objectives Resolution o Semi-Parliamentary Phase (1947-58). This part will cover various governments

rise and fall during the period and would describe the salient features of constitution of 1956.

o Ayub and Yahya Era (1958-71). This segment will cover two Martial Laws of 1958 and 1969, the constitution of 1962, and causes of separation of East Pakistan.

o Civilian Rule (1972-77). This segment will cover political development during the Bhutto Era. It would further discuss the 1973 constitution.

o Zia Era (1977-88). In this part the Martial Law Regime (1977- 1985) as well as Junejo Government (1985-88) will be covered. The 8th amendment will also be discussed in this section.

o Civilian Rule (1988-99). In this section the successive civilian regimes following the restoration of democracy will be covered. It will also discuss the constitutional amendments introduced during these years.

o Musharraf Regime (1999-2008). This topic will cover the shift from civilian rule to martial law regime and, again, transition to the civilian rule.

Course Description: This course is an introductory course, designed to acquaint the student with the

fundamentals of drawing. Class goals include learning to allow the creative part of our minds to create more freely, while learning basic techniques of drawing.

TXD-102 Introduction to Visual Arts-I 3 (0-3) Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to the basics of design and the skills required for the development of diverse practical disciplines. This course provides a brief introduction about the elements and principles of design and will also help the students to develop a dialogue with the objects. It is designed to serve as a bridge to all studio courses as well as to understand and manipulate the formal elements of the visual language.

TXD-105 Foundation Drawing-II 3 (0-3) Course Description:

This course emphasizes on the fundamentals of freehand drawing techniques and skills,

so that the techniques and concepts regarding drawing will be clear. The study of natural

forms, line, perspective, light and shade and proportion are added in the contents to

enhance the observational skills.

Learning Outcomes:

After studying this course students will be able to

● Understand the formal language of drawing and the fundamentals of artistic expression.

● Demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of composition, proportion & texture.

● Understand the effect of light on three-dimensional forms as it applies to drawing.

TXD-106 Textile Design Fundamentals 6 (1-5) Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to textile design and enhances the skills required for

developing and designing textile substrates. During the course students will investigate

emerging and ongoing design trends and will explore design through theme, coordination and

technical processes. This course is an extension of foundation design fundamentals to build

concepts for surface decoration through repeat, different renderings, techniques, use of

textures, layers and movement in design, creation of motif based complex textile designs,

repeatable thematic design, simplification and exaggeration. The assignments/projects are

structured to allow students to explore various textile techniques. Students will be given

assignments which will be research oriented to express their views on the subjects and

different topics under discussion

Learning Outcomes: After the successful completion of this course students will be able to

● Develop a keen observation towards specific objects ● To produce designs that carries a meaningful air. ● To think and create a design that will have a strong connection with the visual world.

Take any contemporary textile design of any one of the renowned brand and recreate using

different characters of line.

Fabric embellishments are decorations that are normally added to fabrics to make them more beautiful, because of the nature of decorative patterns, which they create. Course Description

The studio based thesis is the culmination of the textile design course. The student chose a project or topic of their own choice; research it thoroughly and produce a body of work which not only demonstrates the personal style of the candidate, but also confirms to the aesthetic and market requirements of the theme. Students work in close collaboration with the supervisor and a panel of external examiners evaluates the work after viva of the student.
