Shekhar Annambhotla, BAMS, MD-Ayurveda, LMT, RYT, BCIM, RAS, Founder & President of AAPNA, USA is a classically trained ayurvedic specialist, licensed integrative massage therapist, and yoga instructor, has been practicing and teaching ayurveda worldwide since 1988. His passion and love for ayurveda fuels his vision for the development and growth of ayurveda, including creating and implementing high quality ayurvedic education and training programs in the west. It is AAPNA’s mission to
bring ayurveda to the forefront of healing arts. With your support and encouragement, ayurveda will be accepted and integrated as a key complementary science to modern health care.
Guests of Honour
Mr. Scott Sawler. B.Sc, LLB, LLM, MBA has been appointed to the position of Director General of the Natural Health Products Directorate in December 2010.
Prior, Mr. Sawler has been the Senior Manager of the Ethics and Regulatory Office for the NCIC Clinical Trials Group, a cooperative oncology group at Queen’s University.
Mr. Sawler has worked for many years in industry and health care associations. He has gained extensive experience in regulatory framework development, consultations and stakeholder relations, and business management, to name a few. Mr. Sawler spent twelve years in regulatory affairs at Schering-Plough, the Non-prescription Drug Manufacturers Association of Canada, Medis Health, and other industry associations.
Along with his wide range of expertise, he also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemistry from the University of New Brunswick, a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Laval University, a Master of Laws (L.L.M.) in Health Law from York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School, and a Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.) from the
University of Ottawa.

Dr. Scotten, ND, MEd, graduated from Bastyr University in Seattle with a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 1992, and entered private clinical practice in general medicine until closing his doors in 2001 to devote his full attention to education. As a clinician he believed and delivered core naturopathic principles (including doctor as teacher), teaching his patients to achieve maximum benefit from their individual genetic blueprint and accumulated impairments. Dr. Scotten has spent the bulk of his adult life teaching. He has taught music in private and group settings since 1975. Since 1989 he taught physiology, biochemistry and pathology with Dominion Herbal College, Wild Rose College (later Coastal Mountain), and Bastyr University of Health Sciences in Seattle Washington. In 1999 he was invited to develop and deliver the academic medical program as the Dean of Education at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster, BC. In 2012 he completed his Masters in Learning and Technology at Royal Roads University.
Dr. Arun Kumar Garg, PhD, MD, FRCPC, is a Clinical Professor of Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from the University of Saskatchewan, Doctor of Medicine from the University of British Columbia, Fellowship in Medical Biochemistry from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Hon Doctorate of Technology from BC Institute of Technology. For the last several years he is working on awareness amongst South Asian community of high prevalence of chronic diseases. Founded Canada India Network Society in 2010 and is actively working with several partners and organizations in India and Canada to promote better health. He is Program Medical Director of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and medical lead for South Asian Health Institute in Fraser Health.
Dr. Garg will share his work of the last several years about the prevalence of chronic diseases amongst South Asians, efforts to build a healthy society and his search for the role of Ancient Indian Medicine, its scientific basis and role in modern society.
