Januarys issue contained an article [Superstitions & Sustenance] that brought back memories from my earliest childhood. Like many, if not all Arkansans, I was taught that I simply must consume black-eyed peas on New Years Day. I didnt know why this was so, but there were things children in my day did not question. I cant remember any pressure to eat greens, so maybe that was optional at my house. Had I known about the money connection, Im sure that I would have been more eager to share in that tradition.Today black-eyed peas and turnip greens are among my favorite foods and I enjoy them on days other than New Years. Thank you for bringing back fond memories.
