ABOUT MICPA

OVERVIEWMICPA ACCOUNTANCY WEEK

The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) has been developing the accounting profession in Malaysia by providing accounting graduates with an avenue to become a Certified Public Accountant, or better known as CPA since 1958.

MICPA has been a cornerstone in the setting of accounting standards since then and has played a technical advisory role for Malaysian regulatory bodies responsible for carving out the business and financial landscape of this nation.

MICPA has more than 3,200 members and over 800 registered students.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between MICPA and Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CAANZ) in 2009. The MoU provides for mutual advanced entry for candidates into both of the accounting bodies’ professional examinations.

Candidates will qualify for 2 professional memberships – CPA (Malaysia) and CA (ANZ).

General Eligibility The MICPA Accountancy Week is open to all students currently pursuing a Diploma or Degree in Accounting at MICPA-ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS of advanced education only.

General Consent

By participating in the MICPA Accountancy Week 2020, you are indicating that you understand, acknowledge and whenever applicable, provide consent to the organiser (MICPA) on collecting information that may be used to contact you to receive updates or news from MICPA, Event Partners or Supporting Organisations.

The Business Case Challenge

There are 2 categories for the Business Case Challenge – Diploma-level and Degree-level, both of which will follow the same format as explained below.

a) Composition of Team

Each participating team shall comprise 3 members whose names shall appear in the registration form.

In the event of any changes to members of the team, the organiser must be informed in advance before the submission date of your business proposal. Changes to team members will not be permitted after the submission of proposal.

There is no limit to the number of teams that can participate from each institution.

b) Selection of Winners

The competition is divided into two rounds as follows:

I. Preliminary Round – Preparation of Business Proposal:

Each team will be given fourteen (14) days to prepare their business proposal. Your proposal MUST BE in written in English, and be presented in a document format. The judging panel will review each proposal and shortlist the top five (5) teams from each category for the final round, based on ranked scores.

The top five (5) teams from the Diploma category will be announced on November 4, 2020. The top five (5) teams from the Degree category will be announced on November 11, 2020.

Announcements will be made on the MICPA Accountancy Week 2020 event webpage and MICPA’s social media platforms. II. Final Round – Virtual Presentation:

The final round will be in the form of a virtual presentation. The top five (5) teams from each category will present their proposal virtually in front of the judging panel. Each team will be given fifteen (15) minutes each for the presentation + five (5) minutes for a Q&A session with the judges. You may choose to present in a creative way using tools of your choice – a sketch, videos , presentation slides, etc. Do take note that this presentation must be live and not pre-recorded.

Top three (3) teams will be announced during virtual Closing Ceremony on November 27, 2020.

Decisions made by the judging panel are final.

c) Prizes

The following prizes await winners for the Degree category: Champion Team: RM 900 cash prize + MICPA Programme Sponsorship *

e) Participation Fee

RM15.00 (Per team of 3 participants)

f) Arbitrators / Judges

An independent panel of judges will be appointed by the organiser.

g) Report to Organiser

All participating teams must report to the organiser if there are:

i. Changes to team members – Only allowed before submission of proposalii. Unable to join the final round on the scheduled date and time – there must be a valid reason, else the team will be disqualified iii. Any technical matters which affect the participation of any team

h) E-Certificates of Participation

E-Certificates of Participation will be presented to ALL participants.

Accountants Got Talent (AGT)

a) General rules

Participation is either individual or as a group with a maximum of 10 members. Each participant must follow rules as stated in 1.

There is no limit to the number of teams that can participate from each institution.

b) Categories

Participants can choose to perform in any of the following categories:

Participants from all categories are competing for overall prizes. Prizes are given on overall points from all categories and not for each category.

c) Competition Guidelines & Procedure

Each participant must adhere to the following:i. Each competing individual or team needs to record their performance and submit their video to the organiser by October 31, 2020.

ii. The video must be an original recording and produced by the participant. You are not allowed to use footage from any existing or past videos.

iii. Your video must be submitted via WeTransfer or Google Drive in both of the following formats - .mp4 and .wmv.

iv. Your video should be no longer than 5 minutes in duration, and the file should be no larger than 500mb in size.

v. Performances must not contain any profanity, obscene comments, sexually explicit material, expressions of bigotry, political, racism, hate and any negative content. The Organiser has the sole discretion of deeming videos as inappropriate and in such instances, such videos will be disquali-fied.

vi. By entering the competition, the participant acknowledges and warrants that the submitted video is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the video does not infringe on the copy-rights, trademarks, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest to the video.

vii. The organiser will not in any event be held responsible for any loss, damages or injuries whatso-ever, including any cost, in relation to the performance and production of the videos. Participants shall understand and accept the risks in the creation of the video.

d) Selection of Winners

Overall winners from all categories are to be decided based on creativity, quality and effectiveness of its performance. A panel of judges will score each performance. The top five (5) teams’ videos will be played at the Closing Ceremony on November 27, 2020. The top three (3) winners will be announced at the ceremony.
