Genting Malaysia Berhad

Resorts World Bhd has changed its name to GENTING MALAYSIA BERHAD,

effective from 18 June 2009 to reflect the Company’s primary country of listing,

origin and current operations.

As the Company is a key subsidiary of Genting Berhad, the new name also reflects

the direct relationship between the two entities and will enable the Company to

leverage on the immense strength and value of the Genting brand.

Our corporate website is now known as www.gentingmalaysia.com.

Resorts World Genting

Overview

Just 45 minutes outside the bustling metropolis of Kuala Lumpur is Resorts World

Genting. Amidst the refreshing cool air of the mountain, Resorts World Genting is an

integrated award-winning* resort that has everything to offer, combining fun-filled

attractions with entertainment and the luxury of an international class destination, to

cater for the many diverse cultures and visitors from all walks of life.

Initially conceptualised as a retirement home in the mid-1960s by its respected

founder, the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, Resorts World Genting has since evolved into

one of Asia’s leading integrated resorts for entertainment, recreation, relaxation and

conventions.

The cool mountainous surroundings of the resort is a must-go destination to all

visitors to Malaysia. The resort features six hotels with over 10,000 guest rooms (one

of which, namely First World Hotel, was once named World’s Largest Hotel by

Guinness World Book Of Records), over 90 distinctive dining outlets, an alluring

shopping paradise with over 80 stores, pulsating indoor and outdoor theme parks

with more than 50 fun rides and more! The resort also operates Genting Skyway –

1

Page 2: Genting Highlands Overview

the longest cable car in Southeast Asia - spanning 3.38km from the mid-hill at

Gohtong Jaya to Highlands Hotel at the peak.

Extensive plans over the years, including the completion of the First World Complex -

First World Hotel, First World Plaza and Genting International Convention Centre - in

2001 have ensured that its facilities and amenities have made it Malaysia’s premier,

fully-integrated family holiday destination and the resort of choice. Over 19 million

visitors, both Malaysians and international visitors, visit Resorts World Genting each

year.

However, with so many exciting attractions up at the hill, Resorts World Genting

prides itself for maintaining the natural greenery that is has surrounding it. Only 4%

of the total 10,000 acres has been used for the development of the resort.

Unadulterated rainforest surrounds the hilltop resort, offering visitors a refreshing

and cooling break from the hectic city environment with a variety of interesting flora

& fauna.

In June 2009, the resort took a responsible stance to preserve the natural beauty by

launching ‘Genting Goes Green’, an initiative that not only aims to preserve its

surroundings but also to manage its energy usage, for the overall betterment of the

surrounding and the earth.

Resorts World Genting is operated by Genting Malaysia Berhad (formerly known as

Resorts World Bhd), which also operates Awana chain of resorts & hotels.

* Please refer to Appendix 1 for list of awards received by the resort.

Genting’s ability to hold sophisticated and outstanding multi-million dollar in-house

productions such as FLY : Defy Gravity and Dreamz. Its state-of-the-art facilities and

strong production team is set to bring any new events or functions to life!

Beyond Genting – Resorts World Genting

Chin Swee Caves Temple

Overview

Located 4,600 feet above sea level and at the most scenic site of Genting Highlands,

the Chin Swee Caves Temple is the perfect getaway for those who would like to

escape the hustle and bustle of city life. A Taoist temple, the Chin Swee Caves

Temple is situated on a 28-acre plot of rocky forested land donated by Genting Group

founder, the late Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lim Goh Tong. The Chin Swee Caves Temple was

officially opened in 1994 after 20 years of continuous development by the then

Minister of Transport, Tun Dr. Ling Liong Sik.

Overlooking the lush green slopes of virgin forests, the Chin Swee Caves Temple

takes full advantage of a picturesque setting on the hills by giving its guests a

guaranteed sense of serenity during their visit.

Highlights

Among some of the attractions one can find at the Chin Swee Caves Temple include

the newly-built observation square called the Sky Terrace. Spanning across 35,000

square feet, the Sky Terrace was built for guests to take a leisurely walk among the

‘clouds in heaven’. A large statue of the late Tan Sri Dato' Seri Lim Goh Tong, erected

in honor of his dedication to the Chin Swee Caves Temple, stands tall in the vicinity of

the Sky Terrace.

Right at the entrance, the beautifully-carved Nine-Colour Dragon Wall of Luck

greets visitors to Chin Swee Caves Temple. Each of the nine dragons has different

shades of color and according to Chinese folklore; each color represents a special

type of luck.

Within the vicinity, the large statues of Buddha and Kuan-Yin stand tall behind

the five-storey Temple. Besides praying to both Buddha and Kuan-Yin, devotees can

also pray to a black seated statue of Reverend Master Chin Swee, which is found

inside the Temple.

Just a few feet from the entrance, one could not miss the iconic 9-storey Pagoda,

which is decorated with hundreds of Buddha figurines. Inside the Pagoda, visitors

8

Page 9: Genting Highlands Overview

can find 10,000 blessing lamps installed for devotees of the Temple to dedicate to

those that they would like to be blessed by Buddha.

Perhaps the most popular tourist attraction at Chin Swee Caves Temple is the

educational Journey to Enlightenment that depicts the Ten Chambers of Hell.

According to Chinese beliefs, the soul of a dead person would be sent to the First

Chamber of Hell and his past deeds would be screened by Chin-Kwong-Wang, the

King of the First Chamber, who would decide whether or not and where he should

receive punishment. A good soul would be sent for rebirth in the Heavenly Realm and

an evil soul would be sent to one of the remaining nine chambers of Hell, each

empowered to impose various degrees of punishment.

Facilities

Accommodation

The Gohtong Hall, part of the Chin Swee Caves Temple, consists of 110 rooms – 93

triple rooms and 17 double rooms – for meditation, retreat and self discovery. All of

the rooms are equipped with basic facilities such as ceiling fan, standing shower and

luggage racks, and with the peaceful environment of the temple, the Gohtong Hall

will be the ideal place for those who seek a quiet time away from their busy daily

schedules.

Function Hall

The Chin Swee Caves Temple also boasts two meeting rooms with a built-up area of

1,400 square feet and 650 square feet respectively. The halls can accommodate up

to 280 pax and they are spacious enough to host a variety of functions, from

brainstorming sessions to group meditation activities and weddings.

Strawberry Farm

Located at Gohtong Jaya just opposite the Sports Complex is a 5-acre land that grows

within it over 100,000 juicy red strawberries. But do not be fooled by its name

because it is really much more than the endless rows of berries you see upon

stepping into the farm.

10

Page 11: Genting Highlands Overview

Within the farm, there is a wooden hut called Farmhouse where it serves fresh farm

food and all things strawberry. Try its very own Strawberry Coffee or for the non-

caffeine drinker, the Strawberry Tea will bring you the taste of the fresh berries.

There is also the sinful temptation of the Chocolate fondue Strawberry that is sure to

delight even the non-chocolate lover with its mix of sweet sour-tinged flavour. A

variety of mushrooms and fresh vegetables are for sale too.

But of course, the unique experience lies in running through the spacious farm in the

cool weather, in search of the biggest and juiciest strawberry with a basket in tow.

Nothing is sweeter than tasting the fruits of your own labour – well, almost like it.

Orchid Farm

Waltex Biotec, a Phalaenopsis orchid specialist has recently opened an Orchid Farm

here just 9 km from the Resort, a little further ahead from Awana Genting Highlands

Resort. As Phalaenopsis orchids prefer a cooler climate at night around 15 to 20

degree Celsius, it is little wonder that the cool climate of Genting Highlands makes

growing orchid here ideal. All its research and development as well as hybrid

processes are done at their parent farm in Ulu Yam where the plants were then let

bloom in a cold room. With the opening of their second farm at Genting Highlands,

the orchids are now transferred to this 5.2-acre farm, which overall replaced the air-

conditioned room in Ulu Yam to allow the orchids to bloom in the most natural way.

Upon entering the farm, you will be swept away by the rows and rows of potted

orchids of gentle purple, white, red and yellow petals. The hybrid orchids you will see

here are the result of three years of research, development and growth. The potted

orchids may all look the same but each is different in its own beautiful way. Just ask

any of the trained staff at the farm and they will be quick to answer all your curiosity,

sharing with you their passion for orchids.
