azu 340RThank you for purchasing this Cambridge Audio Azur rangeAV Receiver. We hope that you enjoy many years ofpleasure from it.

The 340R is designed for excellent multi-channel surround-sound performance without compromising on musicreproduction. As such the five fully discrete audiophilegrade amplifiers are kept as separate as possible from theprocessing and input stages. A large power supply with lowflux toroidal transformer and careful design of the audio

stages ensure that the 340R can reproduce the dynamicsand scale required for modern movie soundtracks whilstalso being able to reproduce a genuinely musicalperformance with either stereo or multi-channel musicsources.

Dolby, DTS and Pro Logic II decoding are featured forsurround-sound decoding as well as Stereo and Stereo +Sub modes. Support for progressive scan Component videoand HDMI allow use with the latest HD/HD ready videosources and TV's. All video inputs are fully freely assignableto any source, making the unit very flexible despite itsrelatively small size and socket count.

An Advanced Bass Management feature allows separatecrossovers and trims for PLII, DD/DTS and Stereo + Submodes.

Full RS232 control and IR Emitter In make it easy tointegrate the 340Rinto a Custom Install situation ifrequired.

    HDMI connections

HDMI (High-Definition Multi-Media Interface) is an all digitalconnection that can carry both audio and video in onecable. Direct digital transfer of video and support for varioustypes of High Definition video content make this the bestconnection type for picture quality. The two HDMI inputscan be assigned to any one of the DVD, Video 1, Video 2,CD/Aux, Tape/MD and 5.1 Direct inputs (see the AssigningHDMI sources section of this manual for more information).

The 340R routes the HDMI outputs of DVD players, set-topboxes etc to the TV/Monitor without any internal processing.Consult both the source and TV's manuals to find out how toset the best modes for best picture quality. As the 340Ronly routes/switches HDMI it is not involved in thesesettings itself.

The sources will also normally supply audio to theTV/Monitor over the HDMI connection, this will be separatefrom the audio that the 340R decodes.

In order for the 340R itself to receive audio (Includingsurround-sound) from HDMI (or DVI) sources a Co-axial(SPDIF) or Optical (Toslink) digita l audio connection must bemade from each source to the 340R .

DVI switching can be supported simply by using DVI to HDMIadaptors as these two connection types are compatible. When using DVI only video will be passed to the TV/Monitor.Again a Co-axial (SPDIF) or Optical (Toslink) digital audioconnection must be made from each source to the 340R forit to be able to receive audio and decode surround soundetc.
