(New) BEHIND THE WALLS 2 X 52’A new two-part television documentary series,

written and directed by Mary Raftery, on the history

of psychiatric hospitals in Ireland. This is a cutting-

edge social history series with sharp contemporary

resonances, delving deeply into the repressed psyche

of Ireland past and present, told through the voices of

those who have found themselves at the mercy of the

country’s psychiatric system.

FIANNA FAIL (NEW) 2 X 52’On Friday 25th February 2011 Irish voters went to

the polls and punished Fianna Fáil as they have never

punished any political party since the foundation of

the state. A new two part series tells the story of what

went wrong for Fianna Fail and what the future now

holds for the party.

GENEALOGY ROADSHOW (NEW)

Derek Mooney presents a brand new series for RTÉ

Television bringing The Roadshow’s crack historical and

genealogical team to help people find extraordinary

stories in their family as well as giving free advice on

how to track down a family history. This is a wonderful

opportunity to meet with experts in the field and fill in

the blanks revealing the true story of your ancestors.

Each week we feature a range of stories and people

who want to find their place in history. Our Genealogy

swat team investigate stories and determine whether

people are related to someone famous, or have a

connection to a big event in Irish history or can solve a

family mystery.

HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT (NEW) 2 x ‘52HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT is a new and exciting 2-part

series in which actor Liam Cunningham goes behind

the scenes in the secretive world of the international

Private Security industry. Operating at its core is a

small number of Irish contractors, some of whom

offer protection to high net worth individuals

across Europe; others, sometimes controversially,

provide private security operations for international

businesses in developing regions across the world.

An uncompromising look at life as a private security

operator, this new prime-time series will reveal a world

never before seen on Irish television.

THE NATIONAL REHABILITATION HOSPITAL (NEW) 2 X 52’The National Rehabilitation Hospital has no surgical

teams. It doesn’t offer ‘cures’. However the NRH

does transform peoples’ lives. Patients in the hospital

have two things in common: they have all suffered a

disability as a result of a trauma and they are all in the

unit to learn how to live as full a life as possible. The

hospital is like a holistic boot camp where everyone—

from staff to patient to families—celebrates the

triumph of the human spirit.

THE SECRET MILLIONAIRE (NEW) 3 X 52’Three very different Irish millionaires turn their back

on their day-to-day lives and go undercover in some

of the most disadvantaged parts of Dublin, Cork and

Dundalk. Their search, for genuine local Irish charities,

brings them face to face with some of our most

pressing social problems including suicide, poverty,

drugs, disability and much more. On their journey

they find extraordinary Irish people working selflessly

everyday to help people in their own communities.

long distances to stay in employment: some travel to

Dublin from Limerick or Waterford. In recessionary

times others make the bigger journey to London. In

the dream of sustaining home, friends and family in

Ireland, to what length will people go and just who

suffers the fallout?

EAR TO THE GROUND 16 X 30’RTÉ’s popular rural affairs and farming programme

programme returns for its 19th series this

autumn. Darragh McCullough, Helen Carroll and

Ella McSweeney will meet ordinary people with

extraordinary stories that challenge, inspire and

entertain the nation

THE BUSINESS 6 x 30’George Lees returns with the TV version of the hugely

successful RTÉ Radio One series The Business. The

series aims to look beyond the doom and gloom of the

recession and discover inspiring stories of entrepreneurs

who are defying the odds and creating successful

companies.

Made by RTÉ Cork, every week George Lee will bring

the viewer on a very different journey to discover the

people behind business in Ireland. Whether it’s the local

shopkeeper or a cutting edge R&D development firm

they all have one thing in common – the will to take

risks and succeed and take Ireland forward.

ERNST AND YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEARWith entrepreneurship to the forefront of our hopes

of economic recovery, Pádraig Ó Céidigh returns

highlighting the business people from across the

country nominated by their peers for the coveted title

of Entrepreneur of the Year. The series culminates in an

award ceremony in October which celebrates the very

best in Irish business and success.

CONSTANT PRESIDENT (NEW) (working title) 1 x 52’ The Constant President follows Mary McAleese through

the final year of her fourteen-year presidency and looks

at her time in office during an era of unprecedented

change in Ireland.

Each millionaire then springs the ultimate surprise

when they give them thousands of Euro of their own

money and reveal themselves as a Secret Millionaire.

Genuinely moving and rewarding, this Irish production

of the Secret Millionaire shows us the incredible

difference people can make in their own communities

and how successful people can make a positive

change.

GRAINNE SEOIGE’S MODERN LIFE (NEW) 4 x 30’Grainne Seoige presents this brand new series which

looks at a range of different aspects of modern life

with particular relevance to Irish women. From body

modification to the rise of internet dating, Grainne

meets a diverse range of young Irish women, who

together provide a fascinating insight into the changing

face of contemporary Ireland.

PENSION SHOCK – THE FUTURE IS NOW (NEW) 1 X 52’George Lee looks at the nation’s pension crisis,

explores some of its origins and speaks to some of the

thousands of people whose pensions were decimated

by recent financial events. Lee assesses, with expert

advice, just how many of us are likely to lose out and

by how much – and asks what can be done to avoid

whole swathes of the population ending up on or

below the poverty line in years to come.

PROPERTY SHOCK – WHERE TO NOW? (NEW) 1 X 52’Almost 5 years on from his landmark documentary

Futureshock: Property Crash, Richard Curran looks back

on the predictions made at that time and evaluates

what happened subsequently. Looking at international

examples of previous property crashes he asks where

the Irish property market will be in five years’ time:

will it ever recover and to what extent will any future

recovery be location specific rather than national?

SHANNON COAST GUARD AND RESCUE SERVICE (NEW) 6 x 30’24 hours a day - every day, the crews of the Irish Coast

Guard’s Shannon based helicopter rescue service

battle to save lives in some of the most hostile seas in

the Irish Coast Guard’s Search and Rescue Helicopter

service based at Shannon airport. Strategically placed

cameras capture the frightening realities of rescues as

they unfold. This is the story of nine months in the life

of Rescue 115.

TWO FOR THE ROAD (NEW)

The series follows six well-known public figures as

they accompany six people with disabilities while they

embark on a variety of highly challenging and exciting

adventures across the globe. In each episode, the

celebrity will travel with someone with a profound

disability and, for part of that journey, is required to

live as the disabled person. In each challenge, the

able-bodied person will have to simulate the conditions

facing their disabled companion in an effort to

understand their perspective as well as their own. It is

a series which questions our perceptions of ability and

disability but it is also a story of adventure, of successes

turbulent period of our history. Stories of passion and

patriotism, tempered with the foibles of real people.
