1. Overview

2. SA perspective

3. Demonstration of AREMI

4. Feedback session • Quick update on analytics survey results

• what data/analytics are needed to drive bioenergy

• are we delivering this?

Session outline

Page 3: Australian Biomass for Bioenergy Assessment

To catalyse investment in the renewable energy sector through the provision of detailed information to support the development of bioenergy projects.

Australian Renewable Energy Mapping Infrastructure (AREMI) platform Data layers will include:- • Biomass location, type & volume • Existing bioenergy providers, location & volume • Existing infrastructure-e.g. gas, electricity • Information tools relating to biomass availability, economics and sustainability

Funded by ARENA

Collaboration of States, QUT & SCU, industry, and Data61/CSIRO, project managed by RIRDC. Building on current regionally based data, and filling the gaps, for a national approach with public accessibility.

Project purpose

• QUT & USC post docs and supervisors

• users will be able to interact with the

platform & select scenarios, based on

policy and economic drivers.

• Similar examples already in AREMI for

other energy types.

Consistency & Continuity • Robust and repeatable methodology

• ABBA team – collaboration and information sharing

• Schema – data collection template

• Metadata – information about data

• Determine best timeframe and aggregation level of

source data – different for various feedstocks?

e.g. ABS and ABARES data

5 yearly SA2 or annual SA4

• Dynamic not static

• Custodians and Maintenance

Activities and Advocacy

Relationship building and collaboration

Stakeholder Analysis and Engagement

Advocacy and education around bioenergy

Communication – Internal and External

Data Collection – Consistent, Relevant Scale,

Aggregation, Timely, Accurate

How is AREMI being used

Tasmania – forestry residue data being

used to inform investment decisions

South Australia – Consultants using this

data in desktop analysis for pre-feasibility

Other uses for this database -

State bioenergy initiatives

Each state is also working within their

government policy framework and using

various initiatives to catalyse investment in

bioenergy projects

In SA we have the Bioenergy Roadmap for

South Australia

Bioenergy Roadmap for SA

Identifies hotspots for potential bioenergy projects

Working in these regions Forums and information sessions

Investor Information

Grant Funding for Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies

Leveraging other agency funding initiatives e.g. Green Industries SA - Resource Recovery, Waste

Management and WtE

Dept. State Development – Energy Productivity Program

DEWNR – Climate Change and Carbon Neutral Adelaide
