ABOUT ONGAJOK MOUNTAIN LODGEWHERE NATURE IS STILL WILD

The Ongajok Mountain Lodge is situated literally at the end of a road, in the wilderness of Norwegian Lapland, but still just 28 kilometres from Alta Airport.

Upon arrival, you will discover a fantastic place with modern comfort and all facilities. The lodge comprises nine buildings surrounding a small yard. All the buildings are built in the traditional Norwegian mountain farm style. There is a main building, meeting room, stable, and 16 spacious guest rooms, many featuring a loft. The reception and the cosy dining room with adjacent living room area are located in the main building.

We can host individual tourists and groups up to 35 guests, staying overnight. We are always committed to welcome you at one of the most beautiful lodges with the best food and the most dedicated service in Norwegian Lapland. We offer several winter packages. All packages are focussing on seeing the Northern Lights, having fun on snowmobile safaris, dog sledding tours or snowshoe trekking tours.

To find the right packages for you depends on the time you would like to spend and on the time of the year - from October until the end of April.

Snowmobile SafariThis is the real thing. The Grand Tour which leads us far into the highlands. You will see endless plains covered in snow, deep valleys and high mountains.

In December and January you might have the chance to see the Northern Lights, in February, March and April you will see the winter sky in astonishing colours from blue to pink. It is like driving your snowmobile trough a dessert of snow. Aurora Bargain BreakThis package is available from the 1st of October until the 15th of December. You might not see the winter wonder land which is typical for the time around Christmas and New Year or later in winter, but you might see a lot of Northern Lights activities.

Dog Sledding TourA dog sledding tour is maybe the best you can experience in the Arctic north of Norway. Just picture yourself on the sledge with the Northern Lights on the sky. The only noise you will hear is the sound of the sledge and the dog paws on snow.Two guests are sharing a sledge. One is sitting on the sledge and one is drive the sledge. You will driving in turns so that everyone is driving his team of dogs. On this tour, you are actively involved during the entire trip, from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. When you have changed into the warm winter clothes, the guide provides brief and precise instructions about how to drive a dog sled. He will also explain and show you how to harness your dogs.You play a part in deciding how many kilometres you will drive. You will stop en route and enjoy a hot lunch around an open fire. There will be plenty of time to ask all the questions that are on your mind.This tour is ideal for those who enjoy being outdoors and are keen to try dog sledding. You can try being a genuine musher for a day!

3 Nights Aurora Adventure BreakThis package is available from the 1st of December until the end of April. Enjoy the real winter wonder land in the Arctic North of Norway and - maybe - the best place to watch the Northern Lights. We don’t hunt the Northern Lights in buses or cars, we step out of the door and just watch it. But we take you on our daily Northern Lights Walks to the spots where you can take the best pictures. And during the day we offer all the winter adventure activities!

Snowshoe Trekking TourIf you are looking for a real challenge, this is the real thing. Together with our experienced guide you will explore the valley of Mathisdalen or the surrounding mountains. After a 3 hours tour on snowshoes you will better understand what Ernest Shackleton went trough - face your own Arctic challenge!
