REJUVENATION AND RESILIENCY RWC: August 27, 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon This workshop will use a combination of lecture on research by Dr. Judy Moskowitz and others, skills practice, and reflective to find ways to practice gratitude, altruism, and use strengths in everyday life. We will set goals for improving self-care, which can increase our natural buffer to stress. What is "balance", what does it look like, and how do people achieve it? In this class, you'll learn ways to assess your current lifestyle, set priorities, and choose realistic goals. You'll also learn the tools that will help you meet common daily demands. All classes are FREE! Encourage your coworkers to join you! Register at www.smcgov.org/lms . MINDFULNESS MEDITATION (INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP) BEL-Harbor Blvd.: Sept. 10, 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon  You’ll be introduced to the benefits of mindfulness meditation and practice a couple of mindfulness meditation techniques that you can easily incorporate into your daily life.

BABIES & YOU PRENATAL HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAM RWC: Sept. 18, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 1st session: what to expect during pregnancy, healthy lifestyle choices, parenting roles, and an overview of labor & delivery.

RWC: Sept. 25, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 2nd session: what to expect after the baby comes home, postpartum & infant care basics, home & car safety, breastfeeding basics, and a review of County benefits and programs for moms and dads.

 

PARENTING FOR POSITIVE BEHAVIOR  RWC: Sept. 16, 12 – 1 p.m. You’ll learn to recognize the special needs of your children, use new guiding techniques, and understand the impact of our environment on their behavior.

HOW TO EAT LIKE A PRO—PROBIOTICS THAT IS!  SMMC: Sept. 23, 12 – 1 p.m. We’ll cover the common probiotic-containing foods and brands on the market plus review the most respected supplements.

RELAXED BODY, CALM MIND  2000 Alameda: Sept. 24, 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon. We will discuss effective ways of reducing stressful thoughts and emotions using mindfulness, acceptance, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.

 

GROWING AN ORGANIC VEGETABLE GARDEN RWC: Sept. 25, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Our guest speaker Alane Weber will explain the basics of sustainable vegetable gardening from soil preparation, plan selection and seeding to maintenance and harvesting. Everyone who registers on LMS for this class will receive a free seedling to take home and plant!

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION FOR STRESS REDUCTION BEL-Harbor Blvd.: Oct. 15, 22, 29, Nov. 5, and a follow-up on Dec. 10 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon During this 4-week course, you will practice mindfulness meditation and movement exercises that will enhance your ability to relax, enjoy greater energy and enthusiasm for life, and better cope with physical or psychological symptoms due to stress, chronic pain, and illness.

EATING STRATEGIES FOR SURVIVING THE HOLIDAYS Online OR RWC: Oct. 16, 12 – 1 p.m. The holidays are typically packed with weight-gaining traditional treats and seasonal celebrations but our Registered Dietitian wants you armed and ready! You will learn the most impactful nutrition tricks you can incorporate into the holidays so that you prevent the usual weight gain that occurs between Thanksgiving and the New Year.

 

WOMEN’S HEALTH: MANAGING OUR CHANGING BODIES   Online OR RWC: Oct. 20, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Join Patricia Santana, MD, and Julie Engberg, RD, to get the latest on two key women’s health issues: menopause and osteoporosis. First we’ll cover the stages of menopause and how they affect weight, metabolism, cholesterol and bone density. Then we’ll highlight the latest dietary and exercise guidelines for best managing these symptoms and minimizing their impact on your health and daily life.
