Chandler’s Square Residents’

Council Meeting

July 18th, 2017

Present:

Harvey Osterhouse, President

Roberta DeMarre, Secretary

Maxine Lang

Mary Lou McKibben

Harry Buckner

Millicent Roberts

George Fisher

Loretta Fisher

Becca Booker-DeMonbreun

Meeting was called to order at 2:30pm. The following discussions took

place:

Old Business:

The “Fundraising Non-Fundraiser”. In this fundraiser an envelope would be

placed on the door of every resident. Inside of the envelope would be an

explanation of the way the funds are used. These funds include purchasing

meals at Thanksgiving, sponsoring the Wii bowling team, and supporting

Meals on Wheels. The residents would have 2 weeks to place their donation

in the box at the front desk. This motion was brought up by Mary Lou. Se-

conded by Maxine. The motion passed.

There was a complaint of soup being cold at the 6:30 dinner and this was

brought to the Food Committee Meeting.

Summer Fest will be on August 11th. The Theme is “Jazz in the Garden”: A

roaring 20’s garden party at Chandler’s Square with Trish Hatley’s Trio.

There will be some upcoming changes in the look of the newsletter and cal-

endar in August as new software is being implemented.

There is a request to have the newsletter come out sooner. Becca will work

to make this happen.

As a reminder please take advantage of the suggestion box throughout the

month. Pete checks it often.

New Business: The letter for the “Fundraiser non-fundraiser” will be drafted and brought to

the Resident Council Meeting next month.

There was an exterior door propped open late one night when it should not

have been. This safety concern has been passed along to Pete.

Please remember to be safe when loading on or off the bus. Make sure to

leave space between you and other residents while on the steps. This helps

the staff member at the bottom of the steps provide assistance when needed.

Also, if you have a walker please stay seated until your walker is at the bot-

tom of the stairs.

Look for the new calendar format with larger print in the August newsletter.

Kerry and Becca received recognition on the fantastic happy hours that

have been happening at Chandler’s. Keep up the good work!

The meeting was adjourned at 2:45pm.

Respectfully submitted, Roberta DeMarre, Secretary

July Birthday

Celebration

Solar Eclipse

On August 21st

please join us in

front of Chandler's

Square to see the

solar eclipse. The solar eclipse will

start at 9:09, the max eclipse is at

10:21, and will end at 11:58. It’s

common sense not to stare directly

at the Sun with your naked eyes or

risk damaging your vision. You will

need special solar eclipse glasses

we provide. Ordinary sunglasses --

even very dark ones -- should not be

used as a replacement for eclipse

viewing glasses or handheld solar

viewers.

Education Lecture

For the education lecture this month we will have a representative from Hospice of the Northwest. The lec-ture will be Friday August 18th at 2:30 in the Dining Room. There will be more details to follow.

Healthy Living

It's hard to find a health

issue that bothers more

people than headaches.

At the next Healthy Liv-

ing Talk we're going to explore the

topic of Headaches and Migraines.

We'll discuss causes, triggers, and

what can be done to combat them.

We'll try to do all of this without

causing one. It will be on Friday,

August 4th at 10:30AM in the

Captain's Crossing.

Saturday

August 6th

between 11:15

and 2:30 we

will have a

drop off and

pick up service to the festival.

The bus will make the trip every

30 minutes. Drop off and pick

up location from the festival will

be O Ave & 10th, on the bench

across from West Marine.
