Thoughts from the President…
Once again I look all around me and see things that are changing.
We are already through seven months of 2019. Where has the time
gone?
We enjoyed a relaxing Newcomers Tea last month. It was so much fun
to sit around and talk with the new members about our organization. I
would like to thank Mike and his helpers for putting this event on.
Our quilt show is this month and Bonnie is doing a fantastic job of
heading up this event. I would like to thank all the quilt show committee
chairs and volunteers for the work and timeless hours they have put in.
On a sad note, one of our quilt shops is closing. QuiltWorks is closing
their doors this month. I would like to thank Marilyn and her staff for
everything they have done for this community.
Please stop by QuiltWorks and thank Marilyn for her years of
generous contributions to our guild. We will miss you Marilyn.
Keep on quilting.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PRE-REGISTERED QUILTS FOR THE SUNRIVER QUILT SHOW
Hello Fellow Quilters!
Our August 3rd Sunriver Quilt Show is coming up FAST!
Here are a few things you need to know:
QUILT INTAKE:
Quilt Intake will happen Thursday and Friday, August 1 and 2 – at a new PLACE and at a new TIME!
WHERE:
Building 27 behind Café Sintra (on the other side of the street from the main part of The Village).
As you come into Sunriver using Exit 153 - the South Century Drive exit – go past the waterfall roundabout toward The
Village where you will see two NEW roundabouts. Take the first exit off of the second new roundabout onto Ponderosa
Rd. Instead of turning Left into the parking lot in FRONT of Café Sintra, turn Left into the parking lot BEHIND Café
Sintra where you will see the back entrance to Building 27.
TIME:
2 to 5 pm on Thursday and Friday, August 1 and 2
Because Café Sintra closes at 2 pm and Marcello’s (next door) opens at 5 pm, doing our quilt intake from 2 to 5 will keep
us from pre-empting their customer parking.
We brought 50 copies of the Quilt Show Entry and Release Form to Tuesday’s Education meeting. This is the form that
will be attached to your quilt on display. It is also the liability release form. You can also download it from the MMQ web-
site.
Go to www.mountainmeadowquilters.org. (You don’t have to log in.)
Click on Forms and Quilt Tips at the top of the page.
Select 2019 Sunriver Quilt Show Entry and Release Form. (Be sure not to choose the registration form instead.)
We will also have forms available at Quilt Intake.
We would highly recommend that you also have a sewn label on your quilt with your name on it. We’ll pin your Entry and
Release Form to your quilt, but it is paper and could get torn. A good precaution would be to have a label sewn on to your
quilt.
If you will be unable to pick up your quilt by 5:30 PM Saturday - the day of the Quilt Show - please give the re-ceipt you receive at Intake to the person you choose to pick up your quilt. Your quilt will only be released to you / the person with the receipt for your quilt.
IF YOU DID NOT PRE-REGISTER A QUILT:
If you have NO preregistered quilts, you may bring 1-2 quilts to Quilt Intake on Thursday and Friday. If, for some
reason, some of the pre-registered quilts don’t show up, we will replace their designated spot with one of these quilts of
a similar size. We would also like to use these quilts to fill in when a quilt is sold – so we don’t have empty spaces without
quilts. If your quilt is used to fill in these empty spaces and is not displayed all day, you may enter it again in next year ’s
show
PICKUP OF QUILTS AFTER THE QUILT SHOW:
Because we don’t have a building available to us in the area where the quilts will be displayed, we will be doing Quilt
Outtake at the Quilt Sales area next to the grassy area where the potholders are sold.
We will use the same precautions we’ve used in the past for releasing quilts to their specific owners/designees.
The Quilt Outtake Volunteers will have a list of quilts - by owner - and they will check off each quilt as it is released to
the person with the receipt for that quilt.
All quilts must be picked up by 5:30 PM on Saturday.
If you cannot pick up your quilt, please give the receipt you receive at Intake to the person you choose to pick up your quilt. Your quilt will only be released to you/the person with the receipt for your quilt.

PROGRAM MEETING
AUGUST 13-10 am @ SHARC
Our August program speaker, author Arlene Sachitano, will
be giving a talk and trunk show titled, The Quilts of
Foggy Point, focused on quilts that have been featured on
the covers of her books.
Arlene was born at Camp Pendleton while her father was
serving in the US Navy. Her family lived in Newport,
Rhode Island before settling in Oregon. Arlene worked in
the electronics industry for almost thirty years, including
stints in solid state research as well as production
supervision. Arlene is handy being both a knitter and a
quilter. She puts her quilting knowledge to work, writing
the Harriet Truman/Loose Threads mystery series, which
features a long arm quilter as the amateur sleuth. Arlene
divides her time between homes in Portland and Tillamook
that she shares with her husband and their canine
companion, Navarre. Arlene is a proud grandmother to
three beautiful granddaughters.

APPLIQUÉ GROUP
"The appliqué group meets the third
Tuesday of each month at Bevalee Run-
ner's house from 9:30 to noon. This
year's theme is "Sea Life" and all mem-
bers of the guild are invited to submit a hand appli-
quéd quilt with that theme for our exhibit in the Sun-
river Quilt Show in August. You do not need to be a
regular appliqué group member to participate, but
please let Bevalee know if you are planning to take
part."
EDUCATION MEETING

MMQ Retreat
May 12-14, 2020
Riverhouse on the Deschutes (Bend)
As of this month, we are pleased to announce that we have
one more Sit and Sew spot ($100) and a handful more
Maggie Ball spots ($250) left. We will open up registration
to other guilds (in addition to our guild) in September if we
have more spots to fill. Please email Mindy Wolfman or
Heidi Thaut ([email protected] or
[email protected] ) if you have questions about
registration or would like to register. $15 Reserves your
spot in the class. Final payments are due March 2020. Pay-
ment options are now available on the MMQ website for
your convenience (minimum $25 payment). $250 retreat
cost includes 2 plated breakfasts, 2 plated dinners, a
lovely venue for classes and service for meals in the River-
house Convention Center, AV support, instruction and bev-
erage (non alcohol) service.
Your retreat team has now entered the really fun phase of
the planning process: Candace is leading the team with
ideas for door prizes and goodies to bring cheer every day.
Mindy and Heidi are ordering patterns and collected pat-
tern payments at the May guild meetings. We hope to de-
liver the patterns to members in June at the guild meet-
ings.
If you want to join Maggie’s class, here is the info:
Make the beautiful 281⁄2” Radiant
Star block with your choice of a
Snowball or Kaleidoscope in the cen-
ter. We will study a variety of piec-
ing techniques for perfect triangles,
including foundation paper piecing
for the feathers. We begin with in-
struction in basic pattern drafting
to make a template for the star arms and to calculate the
sizes of the block components. Then we’ll continue with
constructing the block and a discussion of options for mak-
ing a medallion-style quilt to showcase this stunning star.
Additional $6.00 pattern fee unless ordered previously
through Mindy and Heidi (pattern purchase is not included
in class cost). www.dragonflyquilts.com

Business Meeting Minutes July 9, 2019
SHARC – Sunriver, Oregon
Robin Bracken, President, called the meeting to order at 10:00 am
Greeters: Since none were available Robin asked for self-introductions and there were 4 visitors.
Hospitality: Heidi Trout thanked those who brought refreshments today.
Thinking of You's: Bonnie Schaefer announced that she has been collecting quilt blocks for Karen Padrick’s quilt. She
has received around 40. Karen's husband's (Kevin) funeral will be Friday at 2:30 pm at the SHARC.
Announcements: Terry Anderson announced that one of the books for our drawing today has an article about Lillian
Arnold, a master appliquer and MMQ member.
Program: Marie Bostwick introduced our speaker: Pat Jones, Master Quilter for 2017. Pat has a wide background of
artist, teacher of several levels of art, creative quilter using many methods. We were all inspired by her beautiful works.
Thanks Pat.
Break
Volunteers for MMQ Quilt Show: Patty Gates has the volunteers lined up but could use a few more. She will be sending
all volunteers an email this week to give them their assignments. Bonnie Schaefer could also use a few more volunteers
for quilt hanging.
Business Meeting
Minutes: No corrections or additions were given. Minutes were approved as written.
Treasurer's Report: We’re officially halfway through the year, so it’s time to take a look at our revenue and expenses to
date, and compare them with the annual budget. I will mention the highlights today, but you can always get a copy of our
year-to-date budget to actual comparison from me to confirm that your “department” is on track for the year. I will have
the actual numbers available at the meetings, or I can email them to you on request. As of the end of June we would
expect our revenues and expenses to date to be about 50% of our annual budget, with adjustments for the timing of
various events. So far, we have collected 88% of our budgeted dues for the year, which is pretty typical for this time. I
expect we will come close to our dues goal by the end of the year as we are currently only 16 members short.
Thanks to a couple of unexpected cash donations, we have exceeded our budgeted donations for the year; our annual
budget for this item includes only the donation we receive from Premier Properties, LLC (i.e. “Sunriver Village”) in
support of our annual quilt show. Thanks to the early mercantile sales of donated kits last month, mercantile sales
revenue has gotten a significant head start, and I hope this is an indicator of a very successful sale at our quilt show
next month. Both Program and Education have spent well under 50% of their budget for the year; if they are able to
maintain this it will help us avoid a dreaded net loss for the year, which we had anticipated back in January. Service
project expenses are within budget, and our miscellaneous general expenses are well below budget at this point, but that
is largely because a number of these expenses are not payable until the end of the year. Examples of these are
our annual insurance premium (paid in October) and our post office box rental paid in December.
As of June 30 we had $7,200 in our checking account and $10,500 in our savings account. The $7,200 in checking may
sound like a nice big balance, but it includes a $5,000 “cushion” of earnings accumulated over the past 35 years. If our
checking account is ever below $5,000, it means we have overspent our current income, and are starting to dip into our
reserves. So, we have only $2,200 available to us for the rest of the year, which wouldn’t even cover our SHARC
room rental and our storage unit rental. That is why we are so dependent on our mercantile sales to generate the income
we need to pay for our programs, holiday party, insurance, and all our other expenses that we will incur during the second
half of the year. The $10,500 in our savings account includes $7,600 for the retreat (including $2,500 of deposits made
by participants) and $2,900 of prior “excess funds” which have been designated for future fixed asset purchases.

Business Meeting Minutes (continued)
The Treasurer’s Report was approved as read.
Membership: Sally reminded members to thank merchants for prizes.
Communications: Any questions should go to Louise Carriger.
Programs: These are listed in newsletter.
Education: Patty announced that our July education meeting will be on English paper piecing. Bring a few pieces small 4"
pieces of fabric, needle, thread, a fabric glue stick and small scissors if you would like to participate.
Sisters Quilt Show: Susan Campbell has picked up all badges for volunteers, please go directly to our site by the Cham-
ber.
Quilt Outlet: Mary Klein asked that those selling their things pick up forms for selling their items at the Sunriver Quilt
Show.
Bazaar: Please get all items in ASAP.
New Member Tea: Will be this Thursday at Sunriver Library. Mike Carriger sent members an email this past week.
Service Projects: Denise Meese thanked everyone for participating by making so many quilts.

SEW MANY QUILTS & BERNINA CENTER
Whew! Did you enjoy the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and all the related activities? What a blast we had! Providing rental
machines for the week of classes and then hosting the Bernina Booth on Saturday was an amazing experience! We
met so many new quilters, made lots of new friends, and best of all, helped many of you go home with a new Bernina. If
you’re interested in a demo B475 or B570QE, we have only a few still available. These were
new machines that were only used in the classroom (many for just a day or two). They will
still have a full warranty – interested? Come in and see us!
August brings the Bernina Thank You Sale – a great time to stock up on Bernina Feet. If you
buy 2 Bernina presser feet, you’ll get 1 free of equal or lesser value. We’re well stocked
right now, it’s definitely the right time to shop.
Have you been in the store lately? We have over 25 new kits in stock, as well as hundreds
and hundreds of bolts of new fabrics. Christmas in July definitely describes many of our
new collections. Get started on your holiday gifts early this year! Oh yes – and we’ve been
told that Jason Yenter’s “Dragons” fabric collection will be arriving any day. (Were you a Game of Thrones fan? This
fabric collection might have to be yours!). In The Beginning has done an outstanding job blending dungeon and dragon
deep reds, blacks, and golds in these fabrics.
As we go to press, we’re getting our classroom space back in shape. Our weekday groups will start up again on August 1.

BJ’S QUILT BASKET
Hello, Everyone!
The weather is warming up and that means quilt show season is upon us. It is always fun to see our annual visitors again
and welcome new visitors to the shop, but July can be grueling, too. We are putting the shop back together after all the
fun, and getting ready for the guild quilt shows. We have such talent in our area!
Speaking of putting the shop back together, you will see some changes at BJ's. Marilyn generously donated several of
her display fixtures to us, and Stacy is putting them to good use in our shop. The display "bleachers" started life out at
Mountain Country Mercantile, then at QuiltWorks, and now we've got them. I love that a little piece of local quilting his-
tory continues on in my little shop. There are more fun changes coming - watch this space next month!
I am super excited about our summer workshop with Sherri Lynn Wood August 24-25, and have even scheduled time off
so I can participate. After working flat out to get ready for our summer visitors, I'm ready to "get my curve on" with
her Wedge Curve workshop. Improv + curves + solids -- so out of my box but I can't wait. We still have some spots
available for the workshop, and for her Ruler Free Mashup on August 23. Kristin Swan will reprise her popular One Block
Wonder class in August as well, and Quilters Lumberyard classes return in August, too. We hope to see you all soon!

STITCHIN’ POST
What a summer this has been, full of beautiful quilts, flowers blooming, clear skies! We live in a very beautiful place.
Thank you to all of you that for your support of our store and the quilt show. The “Sew Down” fundraiser put on by our
wonderful Quilter’s Affair teachers was amazing! The Tula Pink team faced off with the Rob Appell team and each
created a quilt. Lots of fun, prizes, beautiful gift baskets to bid on. Fun was had by all, and all of the money will go to the
Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, a non-profit organization.
The store is full of fabric for all of you creatives---
The Opposite and Palette from Marcia Derse sold completely out at quilt show and our back order has arrived--it
is really fun fabric.
Winter Wonderland from Clothworks
Instead from Carolyn Freidlander ---I hope some of you were able to take in her solo exhibit on Sunday, the day
after the show, at Five Pine Lodge. It was just beautiful and so peaceful with the creek running through the pine
trees draped in her quilts.
Winter Shimmer from Jennifer Sampou, Kaufman Fabrics
Frosted Flannels from Holly Taylor
We have the most charming Christmas Cheer wall quilt and runner kit from All Through the Night, which is a little
digital printed banner . We have sourced all of the buttons, bells, etc. just for you. We are now working on
another design from her that is a banner with birds that is not seasonal. I think I will have to make it.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and we hope to be at your quilt show in August!
