We are still working to get the city to install a regular bike/walking path
from our neighborhood up to around the Providence Road Elementary
School area. The project did not get funded for 2017 but it is the City’s #1
priority for 2018 grant funding. We will keep you posted on the effort.
Update on Violet Bank Trail Project
Hurricane Preparedness
There were 15 named storms emanating from the tropics in 2016. For 2017, the Tropical Storm
Risk Consortium predicts there will be 14 named storms, six hurricanes and three major
hurricanes. Hurricane season runs from June to November. While no one can predict with perfect
accuracy when and where a hurricane will land, it is prudent for all residents of the southeast to
prepare to be without electricity and have the basic essentials on hand. The below list should
provide a start point to begin thinking about items to have on hand during storm season.
• Water - one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and
sanitation
• Food - at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
• Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
• Flashlight
• First aid kit
• Extra batteries
• Whistle to signal for help
• Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
• Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
• Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
• Manual can opener for food
• Local maps
• Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
While being prepared to shelter is prudent, one must also consider when it may become
necessary to evacuate. Discuss with your family a plan to relocate inland if the State or City
determines an evacuation is necessary. Further information and resources from the National
Hurricane Center can be found here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/prepare/ready.php

Bellamy Woods Neighbors & Friends
One of our neighbors created a Facebook page! While not administered by the Civic League, it is
a great place to connect, share information, and keep one another updated as to what is occurring
in the community. The BWCL will share information to this forum as part of the activities of the
Communications Committee. Take a look!

Curbside Services of Virginia Beach
Trash and household waste are
collected from your curbside each
week. Here are some helpful tips to
keep in mind to help them provide
efficient service:
•Have containers and/or items for
pickup at the street between 5pm
the day prior to collection and 7am
the day of collection.
•Keep at least 3 feet of clearance
between your container and any other item, including your
recycle container!
•Cans that are overflowing will not be collected.
•Remove containers from public view at the end of collection
day.
•Clearly label your container with your address and record
your container’s serial number.
•Loose trash in can should be bagged to reduce litter.
•No other garbage will be collected outside the black can
except for yard waste.
•To report service problems, please call 385-4650 on your
collection day or by noon the following business day.
Pleased do not put the following items in your black cart:
•Remodeling and building materials, carpet, doors, toilets,
sinks, dirt, concrete, tires, paint cans, glass, propane tanks
or other hazardous materials.
• If you have dirt or concrete to
dispose of, they can be taken
to the Virginia Beach landfill,
where dirt will be used for
daily cover and concrete will be
crushed into stone for roadbeds,
thus reducing operating costs.
You can purchase new black
containers for $75 each, and blue
recycling containers are available
for free.
All refuse containers come with a 10 year warranty. If
during that 10 year time frame the container is damaged, we
will repair it free of charge. The warranty does not cover fire
damage or theft.
