A Final Resting Place…

On August 5th a memorial funeral Mass was held at St. Marguerite’s

Catholic Church in Tooele, Utah. This was Father Epperley’s hometown

church and the very church in which he was ordained to the priesthood.

At the foot of the hills in Tooele, Utah, the Tooele City Cemetery is the

final resting place for the physical remains of our beloved Fr. Epperley.

It’s beauty and simplicity speaks to the heart of who Fr. Epperley was.

He is buried next to his parents Tom

and Cookie Epperley. He is at home

with his Lord and Savior. Rest in

the peace of Christ Fr. Epperley.

Remember in your prayers…..

Old St. Mary’s, now in its 186th year of faith and service to God’s people, and served by the Holy Ghost Fathers since 1893, extends a warm welcome to all! We are so happy to be gathered here worshiping God.

Our second collection today is for our Maintenance Fund. Today’s Scripture readings from the Prophet Isaiah, St. Paul’s Letter to the Roman community, and St. Matthew’s Gospel reveal that, from Old Testament days to the time of Jesus and the Apostles, all who strive to find God’s will and follow His commands are invited into the faith community. In a spirit of evangelization, we as the Church must offer hospitality to all who wish to share in Christ’s communion. Hospitably welcoming newcomers and parishioners alike is an important attribute of a stewardship parish. Let it continue to be the trademark of Old St. Mary’s!

BAPTISMS

Call the Parish Office to make arrangements.

Old St. Mary’s will continue to implement the following precautionary measures in response to concerns about the coronavirus :

• Suspend the practice of shaking hands during the Sign of Peace or elsewhere and of holding hands during the Our Father.

• Empty all holy water fonts.

• Suspend offering the Cup of the Most Precious Blood (remember the Consecrated Host is the full Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ)

PLEASE NOTE: Concerning the reception of Holy Communion, The Roman Congregation of Divine Worship in its Reception of Sacraments (25 March 2004) stipulates that “each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue” (n.92) nor is it permitted to deny Holy Communion to any of Christ’s faithful who are not impeded by divine law from receiving the Holy Eucharist.

• Stay home from Mass if experiencing any signs of illness.

Russel Whipple, our long time helper on Sundays, suffered a

stroke in March of this year. Many of you have inquired about

him and we have been informed that he is in a nursing home

recovering. He can receive cards and mail at:
