Derwin Bros, Carcoar, Australian Brewery, unofficial Australian Coat of Arms TM. 13 oz. codd bottle.When it comes to bottles with coats of arms, this is the one thatcollectorsstrivefor.Oneoftwovarieties,thisopenstampvariationisthemorevisuallyappealingpiece.Althoughpolished,thisisafineexampleofavery rarebottle,whichwehavegradedasExcellent(8.0/10). A fine show bottlewhichwould be the standout on anyAustralian codd display. We have not seen one of these sell atauction,don’tmissthisopportunityasitisunlikelythatanotherwillcomeupforalongtime.

Estimate: $6,000 - $8,000.

58. Albury Brewery, Above All, As Pure As Snow, Albury ring seal beer. Mountain and stream TM. 26 oz. dark

green, 1890s.Oneof the iconicAustralianbeerbottles, ithas been some time since we have seenoneofthesebeautifulbeerbottlesforsale.This example was found on a propertybesidetheMurrayRiverbytheowner,whowastendingtohisfarmwhenhestubbedhis toeon it. Somepeoplehaveall theluck! The rear area which wasexposed does exhibit some wear andscratching, there are some scratchesto the front area as well, but asyou can see, this is a very niceexample. We have graded thisasaVeryGoodbottle(7.7/10)

Estimate: $2,500 - $3,000.

81. R. Fowler, Est. 1837, Bristol and Stoneware Manufacturer, Sydney, salesman’s sample ginger beer bottle. All tan dump crown seal. 13 oz.Whatauniquepiecewehaveforyouhere.Thisbottlewouldneverhavebeenusedincirculation,andsocomestoyouinfinecondition.Thebeautyofsuchpiecesisthattheywouldalsohavebeenmade invery lownumbers,often the lowest number a pottery would make wouldbe a gross (144), but being made as a sample fortheir salesmen, it is highly likely that therewouldhavebeen very few of these samples made at all. Thisbottle isoneofonly2 knownall tanexamples. Thereisalsoauniquetwotoneexampleofthisbottleknowntocollectors. Dark emerald green, 2 oz. chemist bottle, made by Whitall, Tatum & Co of the U.S.A.Chemist bottles have become extremely popular in recent years,any coloured chemists, large size chemists, or regional raritieshave seen amarked increase in price due to a large number ofcollectorsactivelychasingsuchpieces.Thisexamplewouldhaveto rate as one of the best examples in the country. It has everypossible attribute desired by us as collectors; extreme rarity,superb condition, brilliant colour (bottles in this dark emeraldgreencolourarea rarity in their own right), andoneof the finesttrade marks seen on a chemist bottle in Australia in thefabulous lion using a mortar and pestle. StandardWhiteCrowchutneysarenotthe rarest bottle around, however,when they come in dark amber likethisthesituationchangessomewhat.This is a very rare and desirablebottle which would certainly bea standout in many householdbottle collections. A fewscratches are evident,however, this is a finedisplay example which wehave graded at Excellent(8.6/10). Estimate: $2,000 - $2,500.

137. Wide mouth applied seal from Labarraque, Paris. Deep kick up base, pontilled. This issimplyaunique,earlyandstunningpieceofglass.Wehaveneverseenorheardofanotherexample of either this name or shaped bottle.This veryearlypiece, possiblydatingback to the1830s,was found inMelbournemany years ago.The early string lip with applied ring is standardonsealedcognacsfromthemid19thcentury,thisoddity is so unusual due to the size of this top.The internalopening is27mmacross,giving thisbottletheappearanceofanearlypickleorcondimentbottle. It also has a very large kick up inthe base, much larger than standard. Hassome lightstain internallydown the leftsidewhichdoesnotdetractinanyway.Overall a superb example of one of Australia’s best pictorial marble bottles.
