On February 16-20, 2015, more than 4,000 8th graders from a five-county radius will descend upon Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum to explore and plan their future

careers during the 2015 EAWIN Career Discovery Expo. The East Alabama Workforce Investment Network (EAWIN) is a non-profit workforce development organization whose mission is to facilitate a workforce development system that educates, trains and prepares a workforce to attain economic prosperity for Region 8. The five counties that make up Region 8, one of ten regions designated by the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, are Lee, Russell, Bullock, Chambers and Macon.

The 2015 Career Discovery Expo, planned to be held annually, will showcase regional industries and businesses. The event will target construction, health care, manufacturing, service and tourism industries. The 4,000 8th graders from the region’s public and private schools will experience a hands-on, interactive career exploration experience led by industry and business professionals from each industry cluster.

The committee for the expo recently traveled to Mobile to experience the Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council’s Worlds of

Opportunity event to gather best practices and overall understanding of what is ahead for our own expo next year. It was exciting to observe a seasoned program in the works. While we plan for 4,000 students, the SAWDC hosted 10,000 8th graders over their several-day event.

I accepted the challenge of managing the hundreds of volunteers needed for our February 2015 event. Since it will involve a large number of highly organized volunteers, we will need a good ol’ Auburn “All In” effort. More information on how we can all be a part of growing our future workforce will be coming your way soon. In the meantime, please reserve the week of February 16, 2015, and stay tuned.

If you represent a local industry or sector of business mentioned earlier and would like more information, please contact Al Davis, executive director of EAWIN at (334) 745-6437 (Ext. 5496) or [email protected].

Huff Smith Law, LLC has moved from their office on West Glenn Avenue to the Cullars-Conner House at 369 South College Street. The beautiful Victorian style home was built in the early 1900s and sits across the street from Auburn University’s campus, right in the heart of Auburn. The site has housed various local businesses in the past, but has always maintained its pristine appearance and Southern charm. The Cullars-Conner House recently received the Preservation Award for 2014 by the Auburn Preservation League.

The firm built by partners Haley L. Huff and Brett A. Smith, focuses on providing legal services and counseling in the areas of real estate, small business, non-profit, charitable organizations, and criminal law. Huff is a longtime resident of Auburn,

attending Auburn High School and Auburn University, and Smith is a lifelong Tiger fan excited to call Auburn home.

“The real estate owners, small business visionaries, non-profit providers, and charity organizers are the backbone of our community,” says Smith. “At the very center of each is the individual, the individual who makes the vision possible. Haley and I hope to help protect their future so they can focus their energy on providing the best possible product or service without legal uncertainty.”

Brett and Haley are proud to be a part of the Loveliest Village of the Plains and look forward to serving the community from their new location. The partners invite the community to stop by and visit the firm and tour the beautiful historic home.

The law firm’s new location, 369 South College Street, is ready to provide legal services for the students, residents, and the local business community. Brett and Haley can be reached at (334) 329-5596 or [email protected]. The firm’s website is www.huffsmithlaw.com.
