LIMITATIONS As a precautionary maintenance measure, lists of chemicals known to damage Perma-Mulch and similar rubber safety surfaces are available upon request. In water play areas; pool surrounds and similar applications pool chemicals may affect coloration of the rubber safety surface over time. This condition, should it occur, is not considered to be a product failure. A “YELLOWISH” shading of the rubber top surface will be noticeable in some colors when using standard aromatic polyurethane binder. This slight yellowing is more pronounced in certain colors and is a common affect in the pour in place rubber safety surface industry. An aliphatic binder, which greatly minimizes the yellowish shading, is available at a higher cost. Both binding materials can be used on a project to maximize aesthetics with lighter colors that are affected by the yellowing and minimize cost. Consult Pro-Techs Surfacing LLC for more information.

5. Installation

PREPARATORY WORK SBR Rubber materials should be protected from exposure to harmful environmental conditions (moisture) and at a minimum temperature of 40 degrees F and a maximum temperature of 95 degrees F. Install surfacing system when minimum ambient temperature is 40 degrees F and maximum ambient temperature is 95 degrees F. Perma-Mulch may be installed in a light rain. Cleaning The entire substrate shall be clean, dry and free from any foreign and loose material. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION 1. Compacted Stone Base Substrate must be in accordance with surfacing manufacturers Compacted Stone Base Installation Instructions before Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing can be applied. Substrate shall be 4” minimum thickness - to be determined by local soil conditions. Density requirement is 90% compaction with final condition of stone as level and stable so as not to shift when traveled on or during surface installation process. A compaction test is required and must be submitted to Pro-Techs Surfacing, LLC prior to installation of Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing can be applied. Stone elevation shall maintain a slope of 1/4” per foot toward low end. Stone base course shall maintain porosity for direct drainage. Care must be taken not to choke off porosity. Additional Substrate Instructions can be obtained from a Pro-Techs Surfacing, LLC Representative.

2. Asphalt Substrate New asphalt substrates must be allowed to cure for a minimum of 30 days before Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing can be applied. Asphalt shall maintain a slope of at least 1/4” per foot. Asphalt must maintain a tolerance of 1/8” in 10’ to avoid low areas that will hold water under the Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing. The slab contractor shall be responsible for flooding all slabs to insure proper slope and tolerance and to avoid delay charges. Any areas holding enough water to cover a flat nickel shall be patched prior to arrival of installation crews. 3. Concrete Substrate New concrete substrates must cure for a minimum of 10 days before Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing can be applied. Concrete shall maintain a slope of at least 1/4” per foot. Concrete must maintain a tolerance of 1/8” in 10’ to avoid low areas that will hold water under the Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing. The slab contractor shall be responsible for flooding all slabs to insure proper slope and tolerance and to avoid delay charges. Any areas holding enough water to cover a flat nickel shall be patched prior to arrival of installation crews. NOTE: Proper drainage is crucial to the longevity of the Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing. Inadequate drainage will cause premature breakdown of the product in affected areas; and void the warranty. Drainage at the low end of your concrete slab is of utmost importance. Any brick walls or curbs at the low end of the slab shall have drainage access through weep holes. Weep holes shall extend a minimum of 2” above top of concrete slab and a minimum of 1/8” below top of concrete slab, as Perma Mulch is porous and water drains immediately through it. Weep holes shall be 2” high and 3” wide and shall be installed every three (3) feet. If weep holes are smaller than the recommended size, they shall be installed every 18”.

BASIC METHODS

Installation Perma-Mulch 1-Layer Poured-In-Place Playground Surfacing cannot proceed until all applicable site work, including substrate preparation, fencing, playground equipment installation and other relevant work, has been completed and approved by a Pro-Techs Surfacing LLC representative. Primer Using a bristle brush, apply ample urethane primer to all curbing and or vertical substrates, which the Perma-Mulch System will contact. Perma-Mulch Installation Using screed sticks and gauge poles, install the Perma-Mulch rubber materials to 1/8” – 1/4” higher than required thickness. Using pool trowels, pull the Perma-Mulch material together using consistent pressure throughout. Repeat the process until all areas, including use zones, comply with the architectural plans and specification requirements. Allow Perma-Mulch to cure for sufficient time (24 – 72 hours) so that indentations are not left in the Perma-Mulch material. Edges Surface edges shall be flush with edge of adjacent area or tapered to provide safe transition. Surface shall be sloped to drain as indicated on plans. Architectural Edge detail renderings are available from Pro-Techs Surfacing, LLC upon request. Large Areas Pro-Techs Surfacing, LLC reserves the right to install a cold joint/seam in all areas in excess of 2,500-sq. ft. or that require adjacent color pours if the certified installer deems necessary due to the nature of the installation process. Although seldom visible, large areas or adjacent colors require the material to be installed on separate days.
