FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” So, why am I writing this to you? By now most of you are probably aware that our warm and helpful Library Director, Jen Campbell, is resigning effective November 30 to take advantage of a tremendous personal opportunity for her in Oregon. Of course, we understand why she is doing this; it makes perfect sense. However, we will miss Jen and Amy as they leave us for an entirely new chapter in their lives, and we wish them well. The news, however, is not all bad. The good news is that Nancy Krom has accepted the position of Library Director. We on the Board are delighted that she has agreed to be our Director. We have a long history of working together and most of our “skeletons” are known to one another. There will be no serious glitches in the transition, and all of us who have come to depend upon Nancy’s dedication and wry sense of humor will not have to adjust to any new rhythms. The primary change for the Library is that we will no longer have two paid staff positions. With the incremental burdens that the recent tax reevaluation has imposed upon the community, pocketbooks are not as big as they were before, and, like you, the Library needs to make changes in its budget to adjust to those new realities. So, tying it all back to Ms. Mead, I am asking you to be one of those ”thoughtful, committed” regular volunteers at the Library and help us make the changes in our world. Beginning in January we will need a team of 3 or 4 people to share covering a total of 9 hours a week. The Cragsmoor Free Library once operated this way, and I am convinced that with your generosity of spirit we can do it again. Stop in to say good-bye to Jen, congratulate Nancy and talk to her about the sort of help she would appreciate. Alternatively, contact me and we can discuss. - Richard Hartz And Nancy asks: “Please bring in your donations for the Fancy Flea!” COMING UP Every Thursday Knitting, Crochet & Needlework Grp 7-8:30 pm at the Library Friday December 8 Library closed.

- Richard Hartz
