INTERNATIONAL CONTACTS Universität Regensburg actively participates in a large number of international partnerships. Within the framework of the ERASMUS programme, Universität Regensburg has exchange links with more than 200 European partner institutions. There are also direct exchange programmes with more than 45 universities overseas, in the Uni- ted States, Asia, Latin America, Africa and Australia. Each year, the university welcomes around 200 foreign scholars and more than 400 exchange students from all over the world. Due to its geographical location, Universität Regensburg, has al- ways considered itself a bridge between East and West. The univer- sity has concluded far-reaching cooperation agreements with ten East-European universities aiming at a broad research and teaching exchange. With the EUROPAEUM, it has set up an interdisciplinary East-West-Centre for research and teaching. The target group of the Secondos Programme, which is unique in Germany, is bachelor students with a biographical connection to a different count- ry (currently East-European). The Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and South Eas- tern Europe (BAYHOST), which is a service centre for all Bavarian institutions of higher education, is also housed at Universität Regensburg. Some of the international degree programmes are binational, as for example the German-Czech and the German-French Studies, which include a period of study abroad. Universität Regensburg

STUDYING AT A WORLD HERITAGE SITE

Last but not least, the attractiveness of the University is enhanced by the ap-peal of the city itself. In 2006, the "Old town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof" was inscribed on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. This distinction recognizes the remarkably well-pre-served medieval town centre of Re-gensburg as well as the city's histori-cal significance as a European centre, strategically and conveniently located at a major intersection of continental long-distance trade routes. There is no other town in Central Europe that testifies to major political, economic-al and religious developments of the High Middle Ages as exceptionally as Regensburg with its historical authen-tic architecture.

The old town of Regensburg is a unique mixture of historical heritage and bustling city life. The halls of residence in a medieval store-house and in a patrician tower are especially charming. Today Regensburg with its historic sites, which bear testimony of the European dimension of the about 2000-year old history, is a pulsating city. This is not least due to the close ties of the university with the social and economic life of the city, the establishment of renowned industrial and technological firms as well as the students of three institutions of higher education in Regensburg.

CAMPUS UNIVERSITY

A university of short distances: All university facilities are located on the 150 hectare green campus at the southern edge of the Old Town.http://www.uni-regensburg.de/contact/maps

The University library is made up of one main complex and branch libraries within the faculties. The resources are organized under an online catalogue. The reference holdings of the university library are available in the reading rooms, the closed stack holdings can be checked out and taken home, books can also be ordered from other universities through interlibrary loan. The library also offers print and audio media digitalization and a publication server. http://www.uni-regensburg.de/library

As the authorised service and competence centre on campus, the Computer Centre provides teaching and research with assistance in communication and information technology. It operates the data network on campus and manages the resident hall internet connections within the periphery. The Computer Centre provides students with free computer work spaces in computer rooms, which are equipped with the latest software products, as well as a number of special work spaces for multimedia applications and a laptop loan service.http://www.uni-regensburg.de/computer-centre

Disability Support: The university's facilities aim to promote equality for disabled and chronically ill students. The buildings on campus are easily accessible; there are also rooms in student halls for students with disabilities. The Computer Centre and the library provide special facilities for visually impaired students.

Representatives of the university and of Student Services take care of the special interests of chronically ill or disabled students.http://www.uni-regensburg.de/studium/handicap

A Family-Friendly Campus:The university's Family Service aims to improve the conditions for students with children. It helps to find childcare facilities, gives legal information, financial aid and supports the exchange between parents at the university. It organizes activities for children during school holidays, flexible childcare on campus, a Parents-Child Office, a "Granny Nanny" agency as well as babysitter training and placement.http://www.uni-regensburg.de/equal-opportunities/family-service

Student Services oversee food and drink, housing, student grants, culture as well as information and advice on studying.http://www.stwno.de/joomla/en

Our Career Services help students find work placements or entry-level job opportunities.http://www.uni-regensburg.de/studium/career-services

The campus has various cafeterias, a central refectory and a pizzeria. Small shops cater for the basic needs: a bookshop, a stationery store, a copy shop, a computer and telecommunications shop, a travel agency, a bank and a grocery store.

CULTURE ON CAMPUS

The Regensburg campus does not only offer various cultural events, but also extraordinary opportunities to take part in them, which allows students to develop their talents outside their regular studies. A unique range of music is performed to a very high standard by four classical orchestras, three big bands, several more jazz ensembles, six choirs and various student chamber ensembles.

At the university's theatre, supported by Student Services, around 15 student ensembles perform theatre classics and special highlights – in German, English and Russian – as well as in-house productions, pantomime, martial arts, dance and improv theatre, musicals and performance projects. Last year's outcome: 37 productions, 97 performances and an audience of around 10,000 people. Universität Regensburg also has its own stage which is special and nearly unique: Regensburg and Kiel are the only German-speaking universities that own a theatre that is independently operated, equipped with professional event technology including a sound and film studio. The fully functional theatre with a gridiron and a flying system has everything the artist's heart could wish for.

As co-operation partners Universität Regensburg and Student Services give students the opportunity to fulfil and to live up to their creative potential.

kultUR – campus creativis the new brand that represents all cultural activities on campus.
