PRELUDE Suite Gothique: Introduction Choral, Boellmann

HYMN Ye holy angels bright

GREETING

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Lord be with you: and also with you.

COLLECT FOR PURITY

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and

from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

CONFESSION

My brothers and sisters, as we prepare to celebrate the presence of Christ in

word and sacrament, let us call to mind and confess our sins.

All kneel or sit.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and

against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through

negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We

are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son

Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that

we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen.

The Priest gives the Absolution

Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon

and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,

and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

GLORIA All stand.

COLLECT OF THE DAY

Almighty God, who looked upon the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary and

chose her to be the mother of your only Son: grant that we who are redeemed

by his blood may share with her in the glory of your eternal kingdom; through

Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of

the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

FIRST READING Revelation 11.19-12.6, 10

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen

within his temple; and there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of

thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.

A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the

moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was

pregnant and was crying out in birth pangs, in the agony of giving birth. Then

another portent appeared in heaven: a great red dragon, with seven heads and

ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail swept down a third of the

stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the

woman who was about to bear a child, so that he might devour her child as

soon as it was born. And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all

the nations with a rod of iron. But her child was snatched away and taken to

God and to his throne; and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a

place prepared by God, so that there she can be nourished for one thousand

two hundred and sixty days.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming,

‘Now have come the salvation and the power

and the kingdom of our God

and the authority of his Messiah,

for the accuser of our comrades has been thrown down,

who accuses them day and night before our God.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

CANTICLE Psalm 45.10-end

Congregation saying the verses in bold typeface.

Hear, O daughter; consider and incline your ear; •

forget your own people and your father's house.

So shall the king have pleasure in your beauty; •

he is your lord, so do him honour.

The people of Tyre shall bring you gifts; •

the richest of the people shall seek your favour.

The king's daughter is all glorious within; •

her clothing is embroidered cloth of gold.

She shall be brought to the king in raiment of needlework; •

after her the virgins that are her companions.

With joy and gladness shall they be brought •

and enter into the palace of the king.

'Instead of your fathers you shall have sons, •

whom you shall make princes over all the land.

'I will make your name to be remembered through all generations; •

therefore shall the peoples praise you for ever and ever.

SECOND READING Galatians 4.4-7

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman,

born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that

we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has

sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no

longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

GRADUAL HYMN The Word whom earth and sea and sky

GOSPEL Luke 1.39-55

Alleluia. Alleluia. Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. You have the words

of eternal life. Alleluia.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.

Glory to you, O Lord.

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill

country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted

Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb.

And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry,

‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why

has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon

as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leapt for joy. And

blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken

to her by the Lord.’

And Mary said,

‘My soul magnifies the Lord,

and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,

for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.

Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;

for the Mighty One has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

His mercy is for those who fear him

from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with his arm;

he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.

He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,

and lifted up the lowly;

he has filled the hungry with good things,

and sent the rich away empty.

He has helped his servant Israel,

in remembrance of his mercy,

according to the promise he made to our ancestors,

to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON

THE CREED All stand

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally

begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God

from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was

incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made

man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death

and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the

Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of

the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the

dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds

from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is

worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We

believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge

one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of

the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

INTERCESSIONS All kneel or sit.

In peace, we pray to you, Lord God.

For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.

For the peace and unity of the Church of God;

For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.

For Robert, David, & Pierre, our bishops; and for all bishops and other ministers;

For all who serve God in his Church.

For the special needs and concerns of this congregation.

During the silence, please add aloud or silently any special concerns.

Hear us, Lord;

For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life.

During the silence, please add aloud or silently any special thanksgivings.

We will exalt you, O God our King;

And praise your Name for ever and ever.

We pray for all who have died, that they may have a place in your eternal

kingdom.

During the silence, please add aloud or silently souls of other departed.

Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them;

Who put their trust in you.

Rejoicing in the fellowship of the ever-blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints, let

us commend ourselves, and one another, and all our life to Christ our God.

To you, O Lord our God.

THE PEACE

God is love and those who live in love live in God and God lives in them.

The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

OFFERTORY HYMN Tell out, my soul

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give God thanks and praise.

Father, we give you thanks and praise through your beloved Son Jesus Christ,

your living Word, through whom you have created all things; who was sent by

you in your great goodness to be our Saviour. By the power of the Holy Spirit he

took flesh; as your Son, born of the blessed Virgin, he lived on earth and went

about among us; he opened wide his arms for us on the cross; he put an end to

death by dying for us; and revealed the resurrection by rising to new life; so he

fulfilled your will and won for you a holy people. And now we give you thanks

because in choosing the blessed Virgin Mary to be the mother of your Son you

have exalted the humble and meek. Your angel hailed her as most highly favoured;

with all generations we call her blessed and with her we rejoice and magnify

your holy name. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company

of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and

saying:

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of

your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine

may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same

night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave

it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this

in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to

them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is

shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you

drink it, in remembrance of me.

Christ is the bread of life: When we eat this bread and drink this cup we

proclaim your death Lord Jesus, until you come in glory.

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made

once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and

glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this

memorial of our redemption. As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and

thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for

counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all

who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of [N and] all

the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by

whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour

and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER All stand or kneel.

And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

the power, and the glory

for ever and ever. Amen.

The priest breaks the consecrated bread.

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one

bread.

The cantor leads the congregation in singing the Agnus Dei:

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace.

This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Blessed are those who are called to his supper.

Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,

but only say the word, and I shall be healed.

The clergy and people receive communion.

All those who receive communion in their own denomination are welcome

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

God most high, whose handmaid bore the Word made flesh: we thank you that

in this sacrament of our redemption you visit us with your Holy Spirit and

overshadow us by your power; strengthen us to walk with Mary the joyful path

of obedience and so to bring forth the fruits of holiness; through Jesus Christ

our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of

your Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies

to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live

and work to your praise and glory. Amen.

NOTICES

BLESSING

The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus,

establish, strengthen and settle you in the faith; and the blessing of God almighty,

the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you

always. Amen.

Go in the peace of Christ. Thanks be to God.

POST-COMMUNION HYMN Sing we of the blessed mother

Sing we of the blessèd Mother

who received the angel’s word,

and obedient to the summons

bore in love the infant Lord;

sing we of the joys of Mary

at whose breast the child was fed

who is Son of God eternal

and the everlasting Bread.

2 Sing we, too, of Mary’s sorrows,

of the sword that pierced her

through,

when beneath the cross of Jesus

she his weight of suffering knew,

looked upon her Son and Saviour

reigning high on Calvary’s tree,

saw the price of our redemption

paid to set the sinner free.

3 Sing again the joys of Mary

when she saw the risen Lord,

and in prayer with Christ’s apostles,

waited on his promised word;

from on high the blazing glory

of the Spirit’s presence came,

heavenly breath of God’s own being,

manifest through wind and flame.

4 Sing the chiefest joy of Mary

when on earth her work was done,

and the Lord of all creation

brought her to his heavenly home:

Virgin Mother, Mary blessèd ,

Raised on high and crowned with

grace,

May your Son, the world’s redeemer

Grant us all to see his face.

ORGAN VOLUNTARY: Suite Gothique: Final, Boellmann

Please stay for coffee or wine after the service. Please make yourself

known to the clergy and the parishioners.
