Joyfulness is a powerful approach to self-care. It’s a condition of supreme well-being and being of good-spirit. It’s a process of purposefully finding delight in the present moment. Not being joyful due to immense pressures of the nursing role can cause apathy and depression. Loss of joyfulness can have detrimental effects on patient care and can lead to burnout. Cultivating Joyfulness for Self-Care is designed to explore how joyfulness can be used to enhance your practice and overall well-being. During this session the participants will learn about and practice a variety of activities that promote joyfulness and will learn strategies that will help them incorporate practices into everyday life that promote joyfulness.

8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. “Leading with Joy: Dare to Be RARE” Dawn Kaiser, Joy Refueler/Speaker/Author, Simpliciti Consulting

How do great leaders inspire people in the workplace? For me it comes down to one simple technique and strategy - JOY. Finding joy on the job is the single biggest ingredient for a successful company. Our job as a leader is to cultivate a culture where joy can flourish. Creating a joyful work environment isn’t about making people happy, it’s about unleashing creativity and allowing people to shine in their jobs. To lead with joy is a rare thing these days, but it is possible. In this session we will dig deeper into the difference between a joy-filled leader and joy-less leader and then explore the four key components to become a RARE leader who unleashes joy that sparks increased productivity and engagement.

9:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Break

9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. “Assisted Living Whirlwind Update” Doug Beardsley, Vice President of Member Services, Care Providers of Minnesota In this fast session we will cover the basics of: Assisted Living Licensure (8-1-21), Home Care Changes (8-1-19), Electronic Monitoring (1-1-20), and Common Maltreatment Trends – including lessons learned. Be there to learn about all things new in Assisted Living!

9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. “How to Prevent Getting an IJ Deficiency” Sue Boyd, Director of Clinical/Nurse Consultant, LeadingAge MN There are no words more feared by a skilled nursing facility during an annual survey or complaint survey than these from a surveyor - “we’re citing you for an Immediate Jeopardy.” Those words set in motion a series of events both during and after the actual survey itself which can make the strongest leadership team—man or woman, experienced or novice—weak in the knees.

Lately, in Minnesota, we have seen an increase in the number of IJ citations. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the Appendix Q update on March 5, 2019 that revised its guidance to states on standards for citing “immediate jeopardy” during surveys of all provider including health, emergency preparedness, and life safety code surveys.

If you look at the CMS survey and certification procedures, there are literally dozens of situations that can cause an IJ. This training will review the common areas cited at an IJ level and provide strategies and interventions to prevent these citations.

10:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Break

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Closing Keynote Session: “Leadership, Teamwork and Laughter” C. Willi Myles, Certified Speaking Professional, C. Willi Myles Entertainment, Inc. Leadership, teamwork and laughter pretty much says it all! Transform your workplace from being stressful to a place everybody will want to work!
