Assimilation Guidelines for New Associates, Managers and Administrators (If necessary, please adjust guidelines to meet Business Location needs)

The Compass program provides for every new Cerner associate a strong foundation that will

assist in the launch of their Cerner career. During Compass, each new associate will receive the

necessary information and training to become productive, contributing members of their teams.

However, a successful assimilation is accomplished in parts. Firstly, through a successful completion

of Compass, secondly through support of Managers and Administrators.

The Compass program has the responsibility to provide an understanding of our History &

Culture; it also introduces the associate to the various tools and resources available - such as

myCerner. The Compass program also presents an overview of Cerner's core business and

marketplace, while developing basic professional awareness and skills to help the associate

understand our unique corporate culture. In addition, the Compass program assists new associates in

establishing personal networks across the organization - all of this is accomplished while

demonstrating the elements of a ‘Good Show’.

However, the Manager and Administrator have a responsibility to ensure that each new associates’ experience continues seamlessly after Compass and to build upon what has already been provided. The following Assimilation guide will assist Managers and Administrators with this task. Collectively, our responsibility is to build a common culture that supports our mission and vision.

Manager Tasks During New Associates Compass Week

Identify associate work location and work with administrator to make sure work space/cube is set up.

Schedule appointment to meet with your new associate the Monday morning following Compass, or immediately after Role based training. This is most effectively done during Compass, via email invitation. You may want to consider discussing role expectations and any additional training requirements. (Associates receive their laptops on Tuesday morning of the Compass week.) NOTE: Please do not assign work tasks for your associate to complete during Compass. They will not be given time to complete them. The Compass week is designed to allow the associates to experience Cerner, understand our core business, and learn what tools and resources are available for them to be successful at Cerner.

Where appropriate, schedule a lunch team meeting with the new associate on their first day following the Compass week - or as soon as possible after role based training. If you or the team is not available, identify at least one appropriate team member to have lunch with the new associate. The purpose of the lunch meeting is to make the associate feel welcomed and begin reviewing, if appropriate, the tasks below.*

Add new associate to pertinent recurring meetings.

Identify a team member to support the new associate (act as a role mentor) and to be available to answer questions. This is especially important if you are unavailable.

In 1:1 meeting, review the following:

Appropriate work attire

Work hour expectations and availability during core business hours

Vacation/Holiday time policies and procedures

Procedures for notifying of absence due to illness

Review role profile

Feedback process and when the first annual review will happen (i.e. Do you want to set quarterly coaching sessions? How and when can the associate expect to receive feedback on his/her performance?)

Introduce Professional Development Planning (PDP)

Role-specific learning plan (i.e. Recommended reading, WBTs, classes)

Where appropriate, encourage completion of Millennium Solution WBTs within first 30 days of employment (strongly recommended)
