2. Review handout When to Footnote, discussed in class (and posted on BeachBoard)

3. Return to the scholarly article you read for paper 2, and review the notes used.Find examples of each of the following:Direct QuoteParaphrasing an idea or theory from someone else

Pointer to the Reader for more information Informational note Translation Secondary citation (a source cited in another source)

Point out if each is the first citation to a source, a repeat of the one just preceding, or a shortened citation for a source previously cited.

Xerox a few pages from the article, and write an explanation of at least 10 of the footnotes. Why and how each is used; in other words, the type of note. What kind of source (book, journal, magazine, other) is cited.

You can do this by page number, then by note number. Be sure to find different uses of notes,
