Due: Dec __

Shot by Shot remake of Katy B: LouderIn your group, you will re-make about 1-1:30 mins of Louder music video

The purpose is to:• Learn how to lip sync (sing in time with music)• Learn how to perform with a prop• Learn how base-tracks* work

• Learn language of music videos through shot types• Learn how to edit in FCPX (using markers)• Play with some of the filter & special f/x options• Challenge: film and edit in slow motion

*A base track is where the action is filmed from one shot/angle (for example close up) all the way through the video from start to finish without pausing. Parts of the shot that aren’t needed are editing out during post production stages.

Task instructions• Watch the section of the video that you are going to re-make and list the shots in order, using the

shot-list sheets. • Transfer the shots into a storyboard.• Decide on locations to shoot – basic planning of this• Identify which of the shots are from a base track.• When filming, play music out loud – singing helps with syncing

• Slow motion has to have adjusted speeds• Film the base tracks first and then the rest of the shots, ticking them off the storyboard as you go, so

that you don’t miss anything out.• Make sure that you get your designated ‘prop’ into every shot somehow.• Edit your sequence*, the slow motion sections are a challenge task. (this might need practice) • Evaluate your sequence on your blog.

Types of shots – label on storyboard• Master shot:• Shot 1• Shot 2• Shot 3…..

• Other non base track shots…..

Editing Steps• Place the soundtrack on the timeline. Find the first clear word and place a marker.

• Or sync with distinctive sound or ‘beep’ to have an exact sync later• Import all clips• Watch the footage and where the first word that was marked on the soundtrack is heard, then place another marker and bring

down to the timeline and sync with the soundtrack• do this for all the footage/clips• listen to the beat of the song and place a marker every time (e.g. 1 2 3 M 1 2 3 M)• Import any other shots you want which were not base tracks (i.e. close ups)

Last steps (only when you are 100% sure on edit):• Change to the blade key and hold down shift and cut at each marker point.• Start deleting clips not needed and a video is created.

OPTIONAL EXTENSION: add in the original video in the corner (to measure similarity)

note: the clip on the top of the timeline is the footage that will be viewed.

Final step: The shots have been cut (with blade)*you don’t have to cut though! Whatever is on the top is what you will see….

Make sure you organise your libraries to Start!

Step 1: lay the track

Step 2: lay the different shots and sync them to the track

Here’s an example of a base track edit (using old FCP) but you might get the idea….
