FORMAT OF THE ONLINE
TESTING SESSIONS
▸ Tests are designed to take approximately 1 hour to
complete in Years 3 – 6.
▸ Students will be updated on the remaining time at
regular intervals throughout the test
▸ Students will have paper and pencil available at all times, should
they wish to do any working out.
▸ Should there be a technical issue, the teacher supervising will
deal with this, and ensure that the student still gets the full
allocated time to complete their test. The teachers cannot help
students with questions on the content of the tests.
▸ During the tests, the students can move forward and backwards
through the questions in all sections apart from the spelling and
mental Maths test; this is the same as if these were being
completed in paper format.
▸ Each test gives the students clear instructions through
headphones. At the start of each test section, the students will be
shown examples of how to answer the different types of
questions, and will be given a number of practice questions to do
before the actual test starts.
▸ The test commentary instructs the students to check their work
carefully before moving onto the next section and before they
click that they have finished the test. The supervising teacher will
also reinforce this message.
What are we doing to
help prepare the
students for testing?
▸ As the tests are based directly on the English National Curriculum, all that
we do every day in English, Maths and Science lessons is preparing your
child for the end of year assessments.
▸ In addition, we continue to ensure that all students have regular access to
computers to ensure that they are comfortable in using a keyboard and
mouse; indeed, most students have previously taken online tests and so are
already familiar with the format used by the company.
▸ In Maths, teachers will be ensuring that students are exposed to timed
mental Maths tests, and in English, spelling tests will be completed in the
SATs style format that is used on the assessment and will be using online
resources for comprehension, spelling, grammar and punctuation tasks.
▸ You will have also noticed that teachers have introduced online resources
in school that can also be accessed at home, which will support your child
in being more confident in working online. Please do be aware, however,
that paper and pencil will always be available, as they are intended to be
used to support students working out their answers, particularly in Maths.
When will these tests
take place?
▸ These tests will take place
throughout May and June.
▸ A detailed timetable will be
sent out to you beforehand.
TEST TIMETABLE
Why use Progress
Tests?
▸ In Dubai, it is now a KHDA
requirement that all students sit these
tests annually, therefore we have
replaced previous school based
paper tests with the Progress Tests,
rather than have our students sit two
sets of end of year exams.
