Proliferation of Assessment – Throughout the semester students are asked to complete a variety of assessment. When deciding to reach out to students for data, remember to keep the quality of the survey high. Also, the more students are surveyed the less willing they will be to continue to participate in assessment. When possible, work with other departments to create assessments, allowing the Division to consolidate and not bombard students with excessive amounts of surveys. 2. Use What’s Available – There are various departments within Student Affairs that have gathered data throughout the past couple of years. Before beginning a new assessment project, explore what data has already been collected and see if it can be used towards your project. 3. Distribute Your Findings – Communication of data is an essential part of assessment. Share your findings with your colleagues not only in your department, but also throughout the Division. 4. Consider National Instruments – Before creating a new assessment, look for national standards and instruments that already exist. Many professional organizations within Student Affairs have available resources. DukeGroups is the most efficient way to manage student organization directories and student involvement. In turn, this database will and can be used to assess their student involvement. In the future we would like DukeGroups to become a one stop shop servicing all student organization needs including but not limited to: creating and posting events; reserving space; recommending events and organizations for students; centralizing communication for members; producing involvement records; and serving as a portal for students to reflect and detail their leadership experiences. For additional information about DukeGroups, please contact the UCAE office or visit dukegroups.com. Baseline is the Division of Student Affairs' adopted tool for the collection of assessment data. Many of the features of Baseline are similar to other tools such as Qualtrics, however, Baseline allows us awareness of all the data that is being collected across the Division in real time. Further, as a member campus we have access to national data, benchmarking, project sharing, instrument development and rubrics. For additional information on Baseline, please contact the A&PD office. UCAE and A&PD teamed up to offer hour long roadshows throughout the Division to share an exciting new initiative, Duke Groups and Baseline, two products now available to the Division as members of Campus Labs.
