LIFE IN A DROP OF WATER Hello! Good morning! I Hope you are all great. Today we are going to observe some microorganisms from the kingdom called: Protist! We studied protists during the last weeks. Remember that we learnt that protists are all eukaryotic, they are aquatic.

And they include 2 important groups:

Heterotrophic Autotrophic (they perform Photosynthesis) We are going to do an online laboratory practice. Only using videos L. It consists in growing protists and then observe them with the microscope. Watch the following video: Video 1: Práctica de laboratorio-cultivando Protozoos. – Bio[ESO]sfera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fdj5_Thh7Jw Now watch this other video, they have 3 types of protists in the same slide. This way it is easier to appreciate the differences between them: Video 2: Protists- Amoeba, Euglena, Paramecium - Jill Clark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNTQLqWEpXU -Euglena are the tiny ones, you can see a lot of them. They use 1 flagellum to move.

AQUATIC

PROTOZOA ALGAE

Page 3: ASIGNATURA: BIOLOGY CURSO: 1 ESO · 4/1/2020  · learnt that protists are all eukaryotic, they are aquatic. And they include 2 important groups: PROTOZOA Heterotrophic Autotrophic

-Paramecium are faster, the have a lot of cilia to move, they are larger than Euglena. -Amoeba is larger, you can find one in the middle of the slide, has pseudopods or extension and it moves very slow.

NOTEBOOK: After observing protists with the microscope, go to your notebook and draw a:

- Paramecium - Volvox - Euglena - Amoeba

CLASSROOM: Now go to Classroom and complete the Google Form: Protist Laboratory Questions. You could go to your Biology book (page 36 and 37), to help you complete the Google Forms and review what we have studied about protists before. OPTIONAL: If you have time, watch this very nice video about: Sally Warren a microbiologist that works at the American Museum of Natural Science, in New York. Video 3: Pondlife, Episode #1 – American Museum of Natural History https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWS8n3GJgo4&t=317s Find pages of the book attached.
