ASIATIC THEORY

Page 2: Asiatic theory

From the start until the present, Filipinos are still in search for an explanation as to the origins of the archipelago.

The desire to explain the origin of the Philippines is reflected in oral traditions such as myths and legends.

Page 3: Asiatic theory

There are theories that explain the origin of the archipelago. One of these is the ASIATIC THEORY.

ASIATIC THEORY

According to the Asiatic theory of Dr. Leopoldo Faustino, the island were form through the process of diastrophism.

ASIATIC THEORY

Page 6: Asiatic theory

DIASTROPHISM

-is a process that involves the movement of the earth’s crust wherein one side gets more elevated than the other side.

Page 7: Asiatic theory

DIASTROPHISM

-the occurrence of earthquakes is a result of DIASTROPHISM.

Page 8: Asiatic theory

DIASTROPHISM

-the formation of the mountain ranges of SIERRA MADRE and CORDILLERA are results of this process.

ASIATIC THEORYDr. Leopoldo Faustino is the

1st chief of the National Museum Division in the 1930’s.It is somewhat similar to the plate tectonic theory.

Plate Tectonic Theory

Because ASIATIC THEORY also used a model of the PLATE TECT0NIC THEORY in explaining the formation of Asia.

Page 11: Asiatic theory

Plate Tectonic Theory

Asia was formed as a result of Movements of the continental plate.

Page 12: Asiatic theory

ASIATIC THEORYThis theory explains that the

formation of the Philippines was a result of the movement of the Asian continent towards the South which eventually led to the formation of the

China Sea Depression and the crumping of the edge of the continent.

PHILIPPINES

Prior to this, the Philippines was believed to be the elevated part of the SUNKEN MOUNTAIN.

SUNKEN MOUNTAIN

Page 16: Asiatic theory

The result of the said phenomenon was the formation of the Philippines between the Pacific Ocean and China Sea.

The Mountain Ranges in the Philippines also followed the coastal parts of Asia which were believed to be connected to each other in the distant past.

Page 19: Asiatic theory

The said process of DIASTROPHISM explains the movement of the earth that caused some parts either to RISE or SINK.

This happens with the folding and faulting of the Earth.

Page 20: Asiatic theory

FOLDINGthe bending of rocks in

the Earth as a result of compressional tectonic forces such as continental collisions. This occurs at depth in the Earth. Folds are most visible in rocks that contain layering.

Page 21: Asiatic theory
Page 22: Asiatic theory

FAULTING the fracturing of rocks in the Earth causing breakage and slip parallel to the fracture. Caused by compressional, extensional and shear forces. Occurs close to surface of the Earth.

ASIATIC THEORY

According to this theory, the philippines was no part of the continental shelf of Asia.
