Lesson of the month

Our main aim in this magazine is to establish some kind of direct connection between the Parents and their kids, and help parents understand the challenges that are important to them ,celebrate the joys of parenthood and kids can Raise up by love and understanding.

This magazine’s aim is to provide local parents with the information and resources they need to do their best at the most important job they’ll ever have – raising their kids.

1.ASFOURET EL ASAFIR EDITOR

Thus, offer articles, tips and directories about the subjects that matter most to local parents – education, health, child development, family activities, events and more.

Teach your child to be passionateLesson of the month

PreschoolBabies connect with the world through their senses. They are wired to receive, absorb, assimilate, and eventually make sense out of their surroundings. Their job is to observe, respond and interact with their world.

Young children do this by bonding with nature. Humans are meant to be intimate with the natural world. A child’s senses are programmed to become familiar with and appreciate the wildness of the Earth. Keeping them connected by daily forays and given the freedom and protection to explore first hand will keep their inborn passion for the world alive. Denied this connection, children grow up at a loss (literally). Some have called this“nature deprivation.” So important is this connection that Howard Gardner, famed psychologist and educator, has included “Naturalist Intelligence” as one of the basic human intelligences.

Satisfying your child’s need to stay connected with nature will keep the passion/compassion program running. Get outside daily. Let your toddler explore, observe, handle what they find. You don’t have to teach them anything, just let it happen. Out of this exploration will arise a preference, an interest and a passion for some aspect, some thing that has fanned the flames of that fire within.

Main points to address:Children have a deep connection with the natural world.Allow them to explore the outdoors.Encourage your child’s natural intelligence by honoring their interests.

Grades K-3rdBy age 5 children have developed some strong interests. For some it may be pretty stones, for another it might be for anything that flies. Your child may be attracted to music, dancing to every tune he hears. Or perhaps their fascination is for colors and shapes of the wildflowers in a field. Your child is unique and so are their interests.

Letting your young child collect favorite itms is important. Notice how they organize and categorize according to some inside plan! Whatever their passion is, try not to trivialize it. Their passion is very personal and real.As children grow, they begin to bond with others, focusing on their relationships and ties with them. At about age 7 children grow increasingly aware of their role in the family and the larger community. Friendships start to become an area of intense focus and continue to do so until about age 14. If your child has not found acceptance for their uniqueness within their family, they will seek acceptance outside the family. The drive to connect with nature is somewhat superseded for a time by the drive to connect with others. These two drives will come together and balance later in life.

Allowing your son to be truly himself or your daughter to be her true self may seem risky. Trust your child’s inclinations, still protecting of course, and allow and support their interests and relationships.

Main points to address:•Support your child’s passions and interests if at all possible.•Allow them freedom to be themselves, honoring their basic nature and interests.

Grades 4-6thChildren this age, especially if they have bonded with nature, are exploring the wonders and complexities of relationships. Finding their place in the world is dependent on this happening.Parents can help their child find their passion in life by paying attention- watching them, listening to them. Their passion will always be linked with their gifts and interests.

If your son can’t get enough chess, find a chess club. If doing a cartwheel and round off is as natural as walking for your daughter, enroll her in a gymnastics program. The budding scientist will need a microscope. The literary genius will need a desk!

A cautionary note: Never push your child toward one of your goals or wishes for them. Well-meaning parents have knocked the passion right out of their kids. What did you want to be when you were little?

Schools as well squash the passion of many children by standardizing curriculum and failing to notice and promote students’ individual preferences and learning styles. You may need to step in if you see this happening and work to change the way education n your child’s classroom and school (or the world) is done.

Ultimately it is our passion that delivers us, heals us and sustains us. Having the wisdom to respect the inner knowing of your child to align with their true self will allow that fire in them to burn brightly. All you need to do is stand back and be amazed.

Main points to address:•Children start to focus more on relationships from about age 7-14.

•Make sure your child’s school is considering your child’s personal preferences and learning style.

•Passion is an indicator of personal freedom and creativity.

Money Management

Tips

You don't need to be a financial wizard to control your personal finances. Just a little common sense and a few money management tips to enable you to live within your means as you increase your wealth. However, before you can sensibly apply money management tips, it's helpful to be familiar with a few money management terms. •Money is any common medium of exchange. •Wealth is the total of everything you own that has value. Your wealth is essentially your money. •Debt is an obligation to pay or do something. •Net Worth is the difference between what you own (your wealth) and what you owe (your debt).

Money Management TipsLearning effective money management not only enables you to live comfortably within your means, but also helps you to increase your wealth. Use these money management tips to stay in control of your money!

1. Set a Money Management GoalMoney management is a means to an end. However, make your goal practical and be sure the "end" is in clear sight. Although your money management goal may be to have a comfortable retirement, start small with objectives like paying off a credit card within X number of months or saving $X by the end of the year. In money management, like in any regimen, there's nothing like the satisfaction of success to keep you on track!

2. Know what you haveBefore you can live within your means, you need to know what your means are. Start money management by taking stock of your money. You'll probably be surprised at how rich you really are!

•As well as the cash in your pocket or purse, include piggy bank cash, bank balances, and available credit from credit cards. (Lines of credit, such as overdraft protections and available credit from credit balances, are additional resources we can use to purchase goods and services. At first look, they appear to be a part of our money. However, credit always belongs to the creditor. When we tap into these financial resources, they decrease our spending power over the long haul with finance charges, fees, and interest that increase our debt.)

– Go on a treasure hunt to find lost money. Look in coat and trouser pockets, through Birthday and other greeting cards, jewelry boxes, dresser drawers, under furniture cushions, behind and under furniture, in your freezer, and under your mattress!

– Although our money is an asset and all of our assets are types of our money, generally we're more inclined to think of assets as property.

• However although all of our possessions are parts of our wealth that we can turn into cash, usually they are the types of our money that we want to protect from creditors. For instance, you probably don't want to sell your car or cash in a valuable coin collection to pay a bill. Yet, the ability to convert property to cash is a good concept to remember in identifying and effectively managing your money.

• Some assets like vehicles and appliances depreciate (decrease in value) over time. Yet, while they don't increase spending power, you can turn them into cash.

• Long-term assets like real estate holdings, investments, and personal property such as collections, artworks, and antiques appreciate (increase in value) over time and actually enable us to save money and increase our wealth.

• Track your incomeReally track your income! If you have at least a month's worth of old check stubs, add them up and divide them to see what your average income is. Better yet, if you can add them for a quarter year and divide by 13 (number of weeks in a quarter) you'll get a more accurate view of your earning power. If you haven't saved check stubs, do it for at least four weeks. Don't just add your weekly wage times four. You'll be forgetting sick days, flat-tire days, and omitting extra income from overtime and holidays.

• Track your spendingOnce you know what money you have now and what income you can expect to get, it's time to find out where your money goes. Take a month and track your spending down to the penny. Make your first purchase a small notebook and pen you can carry in purse or pocket.

• Record everything! In addition to tracking the cash you spend, use your notebook to record every bill payment, check, debit, and credit card expenditure. Include the amount you paid, who you paid (or where you shopped), and the date you made the purchase.

• After a couple of weeks, you'll find yourself reconsidering if you really need that pack of gum or mid-morning cafe latte. However, this money management exercise is designed to show you how you usually spend your money. It's important during this month not to deny yourself your usual pleasures, no matter how trivial they are.

• Setting a realistic goal, knowing what you have, what you expect to earn, and tracking your spending are the basics of money management that enable you to control your money and make wise budgeting choices in the future.

Mom Advice

Beginnings are always hard, yet they are full of expectations, hopes and enthusiasm.

I thought a lot about how to start this but then it came to my mind that you can’t trust someone you don’t know so I decided to start by introducing myself

Basically I am a mother of two and a wife to a doctor which gave me a very good experience in HEALTHY food.

When my children grew up, they left me with plenty of free time, so I invested this free time in researches and experiments that would help me in the daily chores.

This is what I will be giving you in this column every month, advices and tips about food, desserts and in managing you house.

And also some tips on how to deal with your kids.

You are more than welcome to send me your questions about anything you want to know and I will be very happy to answer them.

I would also appreciate your feed back about this column. I hope this would help and entertain you as well. MAMA E-mail: [email protected]

How to Draw Lion

Cartoon

lets start drawing a lion

• Stat with an eye made of a small ellipse inside a larger one. The smaller should be filled in with black ink.

• A second eye is placed next to it. The black pupils can pint in any direction you want but if they point in different directions you will probably end up with lenny the cross-eyed lion.

• Now two more ovals below the lion's eyes make the cheeks. They should touch each other in the middle

• Next filled in a nose and mouth with simple black rounded shapes. The whiskers really make the fact look cat like. Real cats have los of whiskers but 3 or four on each cheek seems about right for a cartoon lion. Don't make the whiskers too long. I also added eyelids to make a sleepy lion but this is optional.

• This next oval defines the face shape. Keep closer to the face that you might initially want to. All that is left to do is to add the mane and ears.

• The mane is basically an egg shape with some jagged areas to represent the hair. The ears are C and D shapes with again some jagged bits nearest the head to show where the mane is. And suddenly we have a cartoon lion.

• He doesn't look particularly fierce does he? A cuddly lion! Try to draw one yourself. •

Spring Flowers

• Brighten someone's day! Make several flowers for a paper bouquet.

•Cut a circle 1 1/2 inches across out of construction paper.•Glue dots from a hole punch or color a design in the center of the flower.•Cut out 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch strips of construction paper to make petals.

• Glue the ends of the petals together, as shown.• Glue the petals onto the back of the circle, as shown. You may need to hold it for a minute while it dries.• Cut a stem and some leaves from the green construction paper and glue them to the flower.

•Glue another ring of petals behind the first set.•Use longer

•Horses and Ponies Fact LifeHistory Although humans came into contact with horses about 50,000 years ago, they were originally herded for meat, skins, and possibly for milk. Evidence suggests that they were domesticated about 5,000 years ago - substantially less than many other farm animals including goats, sheep and cattle. Horses are believed to have first been domesticated in the steppes of the eastern Ukraine and central Russia, as people started to lead a more nomadic lifestyle. Histo rians debate over whether people first rode horses or attached carts to them, but the latter is thought to be the most likely. Two general groups of horses developed from the small and stocky animals that were first domesticated: The 'hot-blooded' southerly Arab-Barb types (from the Barbary coast) and the northerly, 'cold-blooded' types. All modern breeds are derived from these two types, including the light, fast, spirited breeds typified by the modern Arabian, and the heavier, slower, and calmer working breeds such as the English shire horse. Ponies are a breed of horse that stand less than 14.2 hands (56.8 inches/144.3 cm) high. The horse (Equus caballus) has had a bigger impact on human societies than any other animal. They have been used in war, work, travel and leisure, and are still a very important part of civilization today. Life spanHorses typically live for 20-25 years. Distribution and Habitat in the wildPrzewalski's horse (Equus przewalskii) is the only true wild horse, and other wild horses are actually feral. Unfortunately, this species is listed by the IUCN as 'Extinct in the Wild', although there are specimens in zoos. Original horse populations were once found in the steppe regions at the bottom of the Black Mountains, Eurasia. Domesticated horses occur throughout the world. Behaviour in the wildHorses live in harem-based social systems, with males (stallions) dominating a group of females (mares). When male foals reach adulthood, they join bachelor herds until they can gain ownership of a harem. Horses feed on grass, although if they are domesticated, their diet is supplemented with grain. Females give birth to one foal (occasionally twins and rarely triplets) after an 11-month gestation period. The foal can stand within half an hour and it stays close to her side for the first few days of life. Foals are weaned after seven months.
