General information

Ascham Holiday Academy runs a wide range of stimulating programs open to girls and boys of specific Year groups. Students are able to learn in a relaxed and safe enviroment with trained teachers and staff.

Depending on the program, you may enrol in one or all days in a particular week.

Dates

LocationAll holiday programs take place at Ascham School, 188 New South Head Road, Edgecliff. Follow the signs to program location—via Octagon Road.

Drop off and pick upAll students attending the programs should enter the School via Darling Point Road then Octagon Road and a car line will operate from 8.30am (for drop off) and 3.30–4pm (for pick up) at the Hillingdon car line shelter.

TimingThe programs run from 9am–3.30pm daily. Program hours are to be strictly adhered to. Please ensure participants arrive, check-in and are collected on time. A Camp Australia fee will apply to collections after 4pm.

After careCamp Australia will operate after-AHA programs daily from 3–6pm. Please book via https://www.campaustralia.com.au/holidayclub/29105.

Medical conditionsAll parents must inform the AHA Manager in writing of any known allergies and if relevant provide a current action plan with photograph. All plans must be received to confirm your booking.

What to bring A list of what to bring is outlined under each specific program, however all participants are to wear appropriate clothing, including a hat for when outside, and closed-in shoes. All children must bring their own morning tea, lunch and drinks.

Photo permissionPhotographs may be taken by Ascham Holiday Academy staff and may be used for Ascham publications, on the website and in social media. If you do not wish your child’s photograph to be used, please notify the AHA Manager in writing.

Enrolments

Enrolment for all programs is via Trybooking https://www.trybooking.com/eventlist/aha only.

You will be required to pay for the programs selected using a credit card, and a receipt will be automatically generated. A ticket will be emailed to you upon confirmation. Minimum numbers need to be reached in order for a program to go ahead. If minimum numbers are not reached, you will be informed and provided with a refund. Enrolments are taken on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis as numbers are limited in all programs, so please book early to avoid disappointment. There will be no refunds or credits for cancelled bookings.

All details including special needs, medical and known allergies, and emergency contacts must be completed at the time of booking.

The enrolment period is now open.

Enrichment Program Years K–6

What to bring: morning tea, lunch, drinks, hat, tennis racquet (Monday and Wednesday) if you own one, otherwise borrow one of the School racquets.

The Ascham Holiday Academy’s Enrichment Program is a multi-activity program designed to suit all interests for girls and boys from Kindergarten to Year 6. Three sessions are scheduled each day with age-specific activities that will support the students’ academic, social and emotional intelligence. The following activities will be running:

Art and Craft: Explore various skills to create masterpieces. Be inspired by famous artists… we have it all.

Drama/Theatresports: Children will learn improvisation skills that will assist them with developing confidence, creative thinking and performance techniques.

Maths Mania: Engage in a variety of fun games and activities that develop and challenge your mathematical skills.

Tennis: Bring your own racquet or borrow one of the School racquets to engage in the active Tennis program.

Hip Hop Dance: Learn the coolest moves, developing your rhythm, coordination and confidence. Classes are led by professional dancer Joel Peisley who teaches Hip Hop at Ascham Senior School. Experience this awesome class as one of the daily three activities.

Robotics: Using either LEGO WeDo or Mindstorms EV3, students will be able to turn their creations into live robots that follow their every command via individual smart devices.

Science/Engineering: Engage in an array of exciting science experiments that spark curiosity and use scientific knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Acting: An enriching experience in a fun atmosphere where students become immersed in another world! Experience each other’s funnier sides through performances based on a popular theme or script such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Writing/Poetry Workshop: Using popular books and different themes like Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes as a stimulus, write your very own piece of work and let your imagination run wild.

Soccer World Cup: We split the students into teams named after countries competing in the World Cup. The countries compete in a mini World Cup, and also complete other team challenges, such as ‘best goal celebration’, to gain points for the country! Suitable for all students, regardless of their ability.

Evasion & Invasion Games: This program focuses on developing fundamental movement skills and teamwork while enjoying our fun-packed games. Games include: Dodgeball, Capture-the-flag, Kingball, Fresh, Snatch and many more!

CirqueUmNavigate: Have you been juggling projects all year? Maybe it’s time you learned to juggle for real. Circus skills will get everyone working like a closely woven trapeze family, having lots of laughs and learning new skills.

Old Skool Games: Fun games that your mum and dad would have played on the street and in the playground.

Super Pirate Adventure: Challenge your mental ability as you are immersed in an imaginative world searching for clues and props to help you on your journey to discover the codes to unlock their treasure!

Super Ninja Warrior: As a team, complete the super fun obstacle course and try to beat the best time. Just like the hit TV show!

Mini-Olympics: Participating as ‘nations’, students will complete a range of action-packed track and field games and activities.

The Amazing Race: Teams race to complete a variety of active and fun tasks, gathering clues in order to solve a puzzle. The race requires teamwork and gives everyone a chance to display their super skills.

Basketball: Whether you want to go pro or simply have a ball, let our expert coaches guide you through a lesson on combining all the skills needed to succeed in this fun team event.

Kids Love to Cook: Kids cooking workshops are where the real fun happens! These are practical hands-on classes that allow children to spend an extended period of time learning more about food, cooking and specific recipes.

Mixed Media Animation Workshop

Years K–6: Thursday 12 and Friday 13 December

The Mixed Media Animation workshop teaches children of all ages how to create their own animated movie.

Using an assortment of craft materials, you will create stress balls that will make the perfect Christmas gift for mum or dad, or turn your stress ball into a character for your stop motion movie.

We’ll explore storyboards, scripts, characters and learn the basics of how to make your own stop motion animated mini movie.

Sports Variety Day

Years K–6: Wednesday 11 December

Take your teams, limber up and... GO! RACE! JUMP! CRAWL! HOP! SKIP! SHUFFLE and SHOOT! StarTime’s Sports Variety Day will be an extravaganza of sporting activity with fun–filled friendly competition.

The day will bring together traditional sports such as soccer, cricket and netball with a twist. There will be physical challenge courses where teams will be pitting their collective skills against each other. Strategy, communication and encouragement will be key to your team’s success. Teams will create their own flags and war cries to inspire each other throughout the day with an awards ceremony to top things off.

Enrichment Christmas Extravaganza Years K–6

This is our most popular week of the year. In this Christmas-themed week we will be creating fabulous Christmas craft and making delicious Christmas-themed food and gifts. We will also have time during the week to learn new skills such as tennis, robotics, dance and more! Please see below for some of the weeks planned highlights!

Christmas Stufflers (Monday 16 December) Build your own elf, reindeer, Santa, gingerman or snow deer teddy! They all come with a hat and scarf plus a stuff-your-own Candy Cane for the bear. You can make your own sound or play Christmas Carols.

Christmas Blockers (Tuesday 17 December) Build your own tree, sleigh, snowman, reindeer or Santa to take home! These Christmas-themed building sets are 100% compatible with Lego. Each blockers participant will also receive a builder’s hat and builder’s certificate.

Gingerbread Houses (Wednesday 18 December) Making your own Gingerbread House is a joy to build, decorate and eat! It can be used as a centrepiece on your own Christmas table or make one as a great family gift! Kits are included in the booking fee for each child attending Enrichment Christmas Extravaganza on Wednesday 18 December. All kits are dairy, egg and nut-free.

Christmas Stocking Surprise (Thursday 19 December) The DIY gift is SO great that you won’t want to give it away! After creating your very own stocking you will fill it with some surprise Christmas gifts for your own enjoyment.

Christmas Magic (Friday 20 December) For all things Christmas, this is the day for you! Call yourself Santa and design a Christmas mug perfect for hot chocolate on those Christmas nights!

Get Set for Kindergarten

Our Get Set for Kindergarten Program will offer a day program to students starting Kindergarten in 2020.

Students will experience many school-readiness activities that will aid the preparation for ‘big school’. Activities will include fine and gross motor skills, number and letter recognition, as well as art and craft. This is an excellent way to prepare your little one for their lifelong journey of learning. Activities will be run in the Hillingdon Kindergarten classrooms with specialist infants teachers.

BakeClub

Chocolate HeavenYears K–2: Monday 16 December

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend the whole day surrounded by chocolate? Of course it would be heaven! Join Anneka Manning from BakeClub to bake a range of chocolate-filled delights from spiral cookie pops and black & white chocolate kisses through to chocolate ice-cream cupcakes and chocolate caramel slice. You will also get to create your own dream Willy Wonka chocolate bar and express your love of chocolate through your own chocolate poem.

Code Camp—We teach kids to code!

Week 2: Wednesday 18 – Friday 20 DecemberSpark, Blast 3D

Little Heroes: new students, ages 5–6Our little coders make their first small but important leap from consumers to creators of tech. Build awesome mini-games and learn about coding using a mixture of iPad and physical-based learning.

Spark: new students, ages 7–12Fun, engaging and challenging—this is our most popular Code Camp, which over 25,000 students have loved. Code Camp Spark is where every student in Years 2–6 should start their Code Camp journey.

Ignite: returning students, ages 7–12If you have completed Spark check out Code Camp Ignite! This season we are excited to bring our brand new lesson plan where students build on their skills and create new apps with increasingly complex logic, more code, behaviours and problem-solving. Start with Drag & Drop and then move to Line Coding with JavaScript.

Web Hackers: advanced, ages 8–13Your kids can now build their own website at Code Camp! Starting from scratch, students will learn HTML, CSS & JavaScript to create a multi-page website on a topic of their choice.

Blast 3D: returning students, ages 8–13 If your children loved coding with unicorns, aliens and zombies in our Spark & 2D Game Makers Code Camp, get ready to see unbelievable excitement when their characters come to life in 3D! Gain real-world coding skills at 3D World Builders using JavaScript.

Web Hackers Pet Lovers: advanced, ages 8–13Calling all animal lovers... Is your child obsessed with the family pet or have they always dreamed about having one? Let’s encourage their creativity! At Code Camp we will help kids to build their very own website based around their favourite animal. In this camp students can upload photos, make blog entries, create their own custom web pages, and much more using HTML, CSS & JavaScript. Why not create a quiz to find out what animal is best suited to you or create a web page all about pet care and the best ways to look after animals? In one day your child will have fun while also learning the basics of web design.

Web Hackers Christmas Spirit: advanced, ages 8–13What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to build your very own website with all your favourite Christmas things? Students can choose from a variety of holiday themes to base their website on such as letters to Santa, ideas on what gifts would be perfect for mum and dad and how to help others during this special time of year. Why not create a page on cool Christmas decorations and have your very own quiz to find out what elf you and your friends are? Students can upload photos and videos, make blog entries, create their own custom web pages, and much more using HTML, CSS & JavaScript.

Little Legends

Little Legends aims to build a lasting love of exercise through a wide variety of age-specific sports, games and activities that are suitable for both girls and boys of all athletic abilities (all children will be kept in age groups throughout the day).

Beginning with warm-up games, throughout the day students will rotate between different sports, games and action-packed activities that will leave them asking for more.

Some of the games include relay races, soccer, netball/basketball, capture the flag, music games and many more.

Lion King Musical Extravaganza Years K–6: Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 December

9am–3.30pm daily

$165 (two-day program)

Join a group of like-minded young people for a jam-packed workshop based on Disney’s The Lion King. Be trained by our vocal coach as you apply your singing skills to a selection of hit songs from The Lion King film. Then, join our dance coach to learn brand new choreography inspired by the Broadway musical.

Explore the fundamentals of costume design and put your artistic skills to the test as you design masks to bring your favourite characters to life! Be inspired by the award-winning costume design of the Broadway production and discover more about the exciting backstage elements of a full-scale musical.

On the final day, invite your family and friends along to watch you shine while performing our take on The Lion King Extravaganza. Imagine the thrill and excitement of showcasing all the wonderful things you’ve learnt, in front of a live audience, before taking a well-earned bow. Santa’s Film Studio Workshop

Create a Christmas card with a QR code that takes the reader through to your own personal video message. Your child’s imagination will soar...

By embracing the power of green screen technology you’ll be watching your child fly the ‘Christmas skies’ in Santa’s sleigh for days to come!

Using iPads, apps and craft materials, children will develop their own Christmas cards and work in small film crews to produce their videos.

Mad Scientists

Science can reveal the truth about how things in this world work. If you think you can change this world for the better, then learn to be a ‘mad scientist’! Be curious, be challenging, be watchful and be willing to experiment! Come with your mad scientist costume and perform favourites from our Science Spectacular workshop, such as slime and volcano making. There will be plenty of new experiments that will develop your knowledge of how elements interact even further. As always, you’ll have samples to take home to show your family and friends.

Live to Dance

Years K–6: Monday 13 January

Gain physical and creative confidence dancing hip hop to the latest music beats. We provide world-class, cutting-edge choreography delivered by experienced and professional hip hop artists so students can discover their unique physical expression.

Our dance workshops are the perfect way to build confidence, coordination, self-expression and creativity in a fun, supportive and structured environment. Students will learn the fundamentals of hip hop style, breaking tricks, waving and slow motion techniques. As well as learning the latest choreography, this workshop will include dance battles, freestyling and the chance for students to get creative with their own dance moves so that each child can really let their unique style shine!

Designer for a Day

Years K–6: Tuesday 14 January

Whether you’re into surf shorts or party dresses, tuxedos or tutus, you’ll have a ball being the head of your own clothing label with StarTime’s brand new workshop, Designer for a Day.

Learn design fundamentals and brainstorm unique clothing ideas in our fashion drawing session.

Collaborate with a team of other young designers as you become the founders of your own clothing company. Learn graphic design and marketing basics as you work together to create a memorable company name and design an eye-catching logo for your fashion label.

Put your design skills to the test as you design and create an outfit with your new company in our clothes construction challenge! Then use your musical creativity to produce the perfect soundtrack for your label’s end-of-day fashion parade.

Finish the day with an exhibition and fashion parade for family and friends as you present your ideas with your fresh fashion creations!

Frozen Summer Spectacular Years K–6: Thursday 16 and Friday 17 January

Join us this summer for a jam-packed two day workshop based on this year’s most exciting new film release, Frozen 2—and of course the Disney classic, Frozen!

Explore well-loved Frozen characters and scripted scenes inspired by the films. Learn the basics of stagecraft, spoken voice skills and characterisation as you gain confidence throughout our fun-filled StarTime rehearsal process! Be trained by our singing coach as you apply your new vocal skills to a selection of new songs from Frozen 2 and classic songs from Frozen. Then, join our dance coach to learn brand new choreography inspired by the films and the brand new Frozen Broadway musical!

On the final day, invite your family and friends along to watch you shine while performing our very own Frozen Summer Spectacular. Imagine the thrill and excitement of showcasing all you have learned while exploring this magical family story. Build your confidence and skills, be creative and be inspired as we explore the world of Elsa, Anna, Olaf and many more favourite friends.
