Background

A distribuon centre based in the North West of England

occupying a former asbestos processing factory. This global

distribuon company is commied to managing asbestos in

its non-domesc properes. Following a review of a third

party asbestos survey several areas containing high-risk

asbestos containing materials were idenfied. The clientrecognises and is commied to providing a safe working

environment for all employees and complying with current

UK asbestos regulaons.

The challenge facing this distributer was to assess the

scale and nature of the problem quickly in order to take the

appropriate acon whilst maintaining a distribuon facility

working to strict stock movement deadlines.

Project Details

Redhills were employed to carry out an urgent review of all

asbestos informaon pernent to the sites and make

recommendaons. A Principal Consultant was able to

aend site within a few hours of the inial instrucon.On aendance to site lines of communicaon were quickly

established and a review of the history of the site and

asbestos records undertaken. Following this thorough

review, access was restricted as a precauonary measure

whilst risk assessments were completed. All restricons

were fully communicated to the senior management team

aer full consultaon with the site manager and clients

health & safety team.

The Principal Consultant was seconded to the site for 5-6

days and was brought in as part of the dedicated team of

senior managers engaged by the business to ensure the

safety of the employees and engineer soluons to maintain

business connuity. Immediate assistance came in the form

of:

An assessment of the scale and nature of the problem

based on desktop review

An acon plan that defined the tasks and responsibilies

of all stakeholders to address the issues idenfied on

site

Further invesgaons throughout the site in order to

gain comprehensive informaon to compile risk

assessments

Air monitoring for asbestos fibres to test the

effecveness of immediate control measures

Formulaon of bespoke risk assessments in conjuncon

with the clients operaonal and maintenance teams

Scope & specificaons for asbestos remediaon Consultave advise in liaising with regulaon bodies

All works were started within hours of the inial review and

completed within mescales assigned in the acon plan.

Piece of mind was provided to the client through prompt

acon and sound advice. Soluons were engineered by the

site operaons team based upon the asbestos risk

assessments compiled that enabled the site to remain

operaonal whilst maintaining a safe working environment.

In the weeks following the inial acons on site, Redhills

have been engaged to carry out full compliance monitoring

during asbestos remediaon works.
